You have some other really weird going on, I know of 2 people at work here that run these drives in raid, one is software and one is using a LSI 2960-4i.

Sounds like your drive may have developed Bad Sector's and that would explain the locking up when accessing a certain file. Copy what you can, 1 file at a time or in batches, it'll be a painstaking process but may be your only option. Then replace the drive.
