For what it's worth, I'm getting +5.1404VDC and +5.1362VDC, no load, on my two chargers.
I don't have a pigtail to test it loaded, but a minimally regulated AC-DC adapter like your typical phone charger is going to drop on the order of 0.2-0.3VDC when loaded up (which is why the vast...
Is there there a reason you can't use a regular old passive splitter/y-cable? As long as both inputs you are splitting to are proper high-impedance type (most should be, hopefully when powered off, too), you shouldn't have an issue.
I'm also not sure a Fiio E9 will work how you intend. The...
JDS labs doesn't normally include the wall wart. It's $10.99 for the standard US one used in the design docs on their Accessories page.
"Upgraded" op-amps in an O2 is of very questionable value. A major goal of the amp was to use cheap audio op amps (not high slew rate measurement op amps...
Played around with some more random ODAC testing.
First, I connected directly to a pair of Sennheiser HD598 and some Etymotic HF2 just to see what it sounds like (with software volume turned way down). No surprise, they both sounded pretty awful. The HD598 had muddled, fuzzy bass everywhere...
If you're set on a card, a Xonar STX should work nicely.
It's a very good DAC with an adequate amp. While I wasn't happy with the amp performance into ~50ohm Sennheiser HD598 (flabby bass, probably at least partially due to the ~10ohm output impedance), but that particular problem shouldn't...
No double blind testing, but a few quick back-and-forths leaves me unable to tell any discernible difference between an ODAC and a Xonar STX (line out) through an O2 amp (as expected). So far I'm quite happy using it on my laptop.
Other notes: the JDS Labs enclosure is well built and they...
The X220 is known to have somewhat mediocre speakers, but there is this fix: http://forum.notebookreview.com/lenovo-ibm/657971-dolby-home-theater-your-thinkpad.html
I'm not sure what "DJ quality audio output" means exactly, but if you're looking for good sound quality on headphones, I'd...
They aren't leather, but for seriously rugged, well-designed bags, take a look at Tom Bihn: http://www.tombihn.com/
For similar quality (but more of a "safari" than "business" look), there's Red Oxx: http://www.redoxx.com/
Both pricey, but cheaper than your budget, too..
This is what killed the Per. MX for me.
It lacks the dynamic shift-on-the-fly SmartShift scroll wheel of the MX Rev. It now only switches modes from the click-click-click ratchet to free spinning with the chintzy-feeling mechanical button.
Some like this better, but personally I feel they...
Assuming it'd fit your board, I'd grab a Thermalright True Spirit 120: reviewed by the [H] here.
Unfortunately, the availability stinks, so it ends up being ~$43 shipped from the one Amazon source. Still cooled better in the review than the H60 while being quieter.
A Lenovo X220 seems to fit the bill on everything but thickness (not sure of the proper spec: I've seen 1.05", 1.36", and 1.5". Perhaps it depends on battery).
Going by the HD595 measurements here, it has the same mid-bass impedance bump as HD598.
In my experience, a high-ish output impedance on my Xonar STX (~11ohm, I believe that is the same with even non-amp Xonars, but I could be wrong) bloats the mid-bass and makes it a tad boomy on my HD598...
Check this thread: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1662138
Unfortunately, separate headphone and microphone is a necessary evil if you care about sound quality; there just aren't that many great sounding headsets. Especially on that budget.
Another nod for the O2.
The Fiio E7 is great, but might be annoying for non-portable use (the need for the screen and the button lock out).
The Fiio E9 is not one of their best products. Great if you want to run some some high impedance Beyerdynamic or Sennhesier cans for cheap, but the noise...
I'm just trying to figure out if it's the card or the 'Grado sound' you don't like. have you listened to them with other sources?
=353&graphID[]=2231"]Here's the frequency response (FR) of SR80i vs. Beyerdynamic DT770. I compared it to the DT770 because it looks like you're EQing the FR...
http://www.modmic.com/ probably.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnCqxOVBOOA is a somewhat long winded review. It sounds better, but not much by my ears. Little bit less background noise, but I'd like to hear it in a noisier situation. I think Zalman sound quality is excellent for the...
For a "regular" person, they are mostly the same.
Good binaural processing is pretty good (the way the question is worded, it sounds like you want to know if it's good for knowing where sound comes from in a FPS: the answer is yes). Good binaural recordings (made with a head torso simulator)...
Samson SR850 are among best bang-for-the-buck headphones around right now: http://www.amazon.com/Samson-Semi-Open-Studio-Reference-Headphones/dp/B002LBSEQS/tag=hardfocom-20
Definitely better quality audio than any gaming-brand headset.
I found the bass boomy and loose on my HD598 from a Xonar STX (amp) and portable sources. From the line out and my O2 amp, it's a lot tighter and as punchy as Sennheiser tends to get. I think the typically wonky Sennheiser driver impedance needs some more damping to get under control.
Out of the choices listed, the Benchmark DAC1.
Though, I'd look at the DIY O2 amp, too: http://nwavguy.blogspot.com/2011/07/o2-headphone-amp.html
The designer used his own DAC1 Pre and HD650 in the design process and still claims no one was able to tell the difference in blind testing. You...
I've found the sound quality to be excellent and very low distortion even with the necessary microphone boost.
However, you are right about background noise. It is an omnidiectional microphone hanging from the headphone cable, after all, and not a boom mic at the corner of your mouth. If...
Add to that this: http://www.anandtech.com/show/5254/investigating-the-galaxy-nexus-lte-signal-issue
My wild speculation: I think the 4G to 3G handoff is overly aggressive/conservative and they'll add bars for the sake of bars. :(
It's not about the battery as much as it's about the software reading the battery charge. Each battery is a little different, so the batterystats.bin file records data for your particular battery.
It seems Android is extremely conservative on reporting the state of charge when it lacks data...
You'd probably be surprised about how much deeper (less boomy) bass you'd get from those D2000s with a better matched amp.
While the Xonar STX is a great source, the amp is only ok with its ~10ohm output impedance. For those 25ohm Denons, you want <3ohm. You should try with your friend's E7...
For ~$100, I'd get some Superlux HD668B for ~$50, a Xonar DG for ~$30 (less than $20 after rebate on Amazon right now), and a Zalman clip-on mic for ~$10.
Or if you realllllly still want a headset, a Corsair HS1A (really cheap right now thanks to the new models) plus the Xonar DG.
Great by my ears and measures well too: http://www.stereophile.com/content/asus-xonar-essence-ststx-soundcards-measurements
I'd call the headphone amp only adequate (for low impedance cans, based on the ~11ohm output impedance), though. But the line out is (measures) as good as or better...
Correct. http://www.headfonia.com/old-and-new-hd555-hd558-hd598/ compares the HD555, HD558, and HD598 for what it's worth.
Back when the HD598 was ~$173 on Amazon, I would (and did) take it over the HD558. But at ~$230, I'm not sure it's worth the extra cash for someone who isn't used to...
And if you're not inclined to do the full DIY (probably where you'd get the circuit board anyway), there's:http://www.jdslabs.com/storeAmps.php You even get a warranty.
The only thing that gave me pause (I plan to use mine almost exclusively for desktop use) is while connections all on the...
The PC350 needs to be modded to sound 'audiophile good' and is really bass shy without the mod. See: http://www.head-fi.org/t/406187/modding-the-sennheiser-pc350-headset/
I haven't heard the HD558, but I think the HD598 is a noticeable improvement from the HD555 (more bass, more 'musical' in...
