Dumb question
Are there any recommended steps for setting folder acl at the share level? I'm using the free version of napp-it and keep getting access denied in Windows mmc even after resetting folder acl through napp-it.
Hello everyone -
This may be a dumb question, but after setting the power.conf settings, how can I tell if it's actually working? Also, is there a power log somewhere to see when/why the disks spin up and down? I'm hoping to eliminate any automated processes spinning up the disks.
Here are...
Yeah, HyperMatrix really stuck his neck out there. Hope he doesn't get burnt. Personally, I wouldn't have and instead would have made payment go straight to Greensum's PayPal account.
Yikes! Sorry about your misfortune. Makes me realize the need once again for good backups...if only current hard drive prices weren't so high. That and the fact that it won't be too much longer for 6TB hard drives...
This post should help quite a bit for the SABNZBD install...you're going to want to pull the latest version from sourceforge though of course. Github as S0urce mentioned is another option which keeps the version up to date easier.

You're probably right madrebel. However, the ram price is so close nowadays that why wouldn't you opt for ECC? It's well worth the extra $$ for peace of mind in my book. Especially when dealing with a storage server.
That's something that I need to figure out. Like the poor guy above, my UPS will just stay on (not the best solution obviously). Since I have an all-in-one, I'm thinking I can create a Windows XP VM and load the UPS software on that. From there, however, I need to find a way for that VM to...
Get a better power supply to start. And be sure not to get hung up on the "this is 800W!!!" wattage bandwagon.

I own the Seasonic Gold x650 and love it! My server ranges from ~140 watts idle to 160 watts load with a Xeon E3-1230 and 11 Seagate 2TB drives. The...
I can back this up. On my SuperMicro X9SCM-F with VMDIRECTPATH and ESXi 5.0, I can passthrough my internal SATA controllers. For me, it's all or nothing though - all SATA2 and SATA3 ports or none at all, I can't split them up.
EDIT: Yes, as danswartz pointed out below, the SATA2/3 issue is...
I too experienced issues recently. I rebooted my ESXi box and magically all my drives within Napp-It showed up as UNAVAILABLE. Here's my story:
Interesting I thought. Eventually, I checked the device drivers withing OpenIndiana and found that the IBM M1015s (LSI 9240-8i) were...
Actually, you should give yourself some credit. I too experienced issues recently. I rebooted my ESXi box and magically all my drives within Napp-It showed up as UNAVAILABLE. Here's my story:
Interesting I thought. Eventually, I checked the device drivers withing OpenIndiana and found that...
Thanks for the update Chilly. Not a huge rush as add-in cards work, but it is a "nice to have working" kind of thing.
I'll wait for your release and maybe by then the final release of pfSense will be out too.
So, with that being said, the best bet for us who want to use this for pfSense or another unsupported platform is actually to get the NIC working in ESXi. Then we can pass through the other NIC which IS supported by pfSense. Until that happens though, we are stuck with add-in cards unless...
Like DuronClocker, I figured that I would just pass the 82579LM nic to a VM as well. However, it seems that my VM, pfSense (FreeBSD 8.1), does not have a driver for it either! So, I'm stuck else I add in a network card...
Chilly, you think you can get this working?
Now, with regard to Ashift, if I already have a pool of ashift=9, can I modify it to be ashift=12 for the 4k sector drives? Additionally, what kind of performance boost will I gain and is it really worth it?
No comments? I'm afraid to flash this myself. I'm still testing the M1015 w/ZFS but if I have problems, I will give this a shot. Worst case is I have a $35 paperweight.

ZFS doesn't like on-board cache as the filesystem manages everything on it's own. You want a controller that doesn't interfere with how ZFS operates. So in this light, the 9211-8i is the perfect choice is you are planning for a ZFS filesystem. All of the cache-type features are done through...
Thanks for the update Gea. I'm excited to see the non-free extensions coming about as it ensures the project will continue to live on. I'm also hoping that you get something for all your hard work. I'm sure appreciative!
:/ I'm hoping he is okay too. He has been very active in this community, and I find it odd he just stopped showing up. I can't find any recent posts from across the web either.
I think I will also chime in here. I as well have been unsuccessful getting Windows 7 x64 Ultimate to work setting share-based ACLs for Solaris. Couldn't get it working for the life of me. Did the "root passwd" and even verified the user was in the SMB share administrators group. Still no...
gremlin, try setting your root password again using "passwd root" and reboot. It is in Gea's instructions and having done that I haven't had any issues.

No need to fill up this thread with motherboard compatibility questions. Do be aware, however, that 8GB ECC UDIMMS are not available at this time. Max currently available are 4GB sticks. (4 slots x 4GB each = 16GB max...
Alrighty, I came through for you Jon S. I tested it on the SuperMicro X9SCM-F (Cougar Point 204 Chipset).
Results are below:
It appears that everything functions normally except for the Intel 82579LM Gigabit network controller. Not sure if drivers are available, but at least the 82574L...
