Hey all,
Hope someone can help me with these characteristics but I am baffled.
Have been running my i5 750 with the specs in my sig at 4ghz (20x200) with 20 runs Linx stable (with the newest linpack) and a couple hours of prime. This is normally good enough for me as I do not do anything...
So because of WC + Crossfire, I have to get rid of my Xonar Essence STX (no available PCI-e slots).
I'm planning to get an Essence ST to replace it, but was wondering if there are any alternatives.
Pretty much the only consideration (in addition to being PCI) is that I must be able to plug...
There's no full mobo block available for this board, but could someone point me in the direction of a chipset block for just the northbridge?
Would a generic gigabyte one work?
Cheers/
Student bedroom with desks in an L-shaped arrangement like below. TV on one desk which I use to watch films (often sitting on bed) + play racing games, monitor on the second desk that I use to game. Ideally I'd like one 5.1 speaker arrangement to cover both needs (don't want to run two 2.0/2.1...
All I need to drive using my computer is a gaming headset (games), and a set of 2.1 speakers (films). Both run off a 3.5mm connector.
What's the best way of making this work? I've thought of using a splitter, but not sure how this would affect the sound quality. Also thought of using some kind...
After a bit of an epic struggle (long story) finally got hold of an ASUS ROG Matrix Platinum 5870 that I got off eBay for a good price.
Now I've run straight into a problem - the HDMI port doesn't output an image.
Plugging something into the port, CCC and Windows both detect a second...
This happens sometimes whilst gaming.
Hawk 5770, stock settings atm, load temps are 60 under stress but 50-55 whilst gaming.
Not sure if it's a monitor problem, gpu failure, or a driver issue.
So I just switched in a new PSU. AX 750. Everything's wired up correctly.
Tried to post with just motherboard (P55A-UD3), processor (i5-750) and RAM, the gpu fan (5870) goes to 100% and there's no image.
Does this sound to people like a dead motherboard?
EDIT: (1) the four phase LEDs are lit...

I'm having problems getting Linx stable. It never bsods, but always stops with error after anything from 4-8 passes.
The build is stable with a whole night of prime, and mem test is fine. Load temps are 60 with Linx, and 55-60 with prime.
Currently:
Multiplyer: 19x
BCLK: 200
RAM @ x6...
I gave my beloved a last photoshoot. Components are getting moved (with a completely new look) into another Lian Li case that I've modded for watercooling, and this case will be used for my main work computer. I'll be doing worklogs when everything's ready :).
Braiding from MDPC.

The apple display only has a single mini-displayport input.
Is there a easy way to connect two PC outputs into the monitor, with an easy way to switch between them?
Is there any disdavantage to a push pull set up where you have different makes of fan on either side of a radiator?
E.g. Yate loon slim fans pushing, and GTs pulling.
I'd like a set up like this because I can't fit normal sized fans in front of the rad where I've modded the case.
Question's pretty much in the title.
At the moment I'm air cooled and it's working pretty nicely. I would dearly love to go WC though, if only just for the sake of it, and with a bit of modding my case can fit a 240mm in the front.
Would this be enough to cool both the GPU and the CPU...
So I want a 'secondary' gaming mouse that's reasonably portable, but don't want to shell out for a wireless one. Can anyone recommend a gaming mouse with a cable that's retractable, or even one where you can remove the cable and store it separately?
The Orochi is top of the list atm, but is...
I'm looking at one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-5-SATA-II-32GB-SLC-SSD-64M-cache-R-260Mb-W-200Mb-/250756272952?pt=UK_Computing_HardDrives_RL&hash=item3a623d1338#ht_4222wt_1012
It's a reasonable price for a 32GB SLC, but these no name oem brands - can they be trusted?
I got a good deal on a first generation Intel X-25E 32GB, which is an SLC drive. However, this first generation controller drive doesn't support TRIM operations.
You hear great things about the lifespan and speed of SLC, but would it be better to use a more mainstream MLC drive as a boot...
With IPS panel laptops no longer being produced, 8-bit seems to be the best bet for colour accuracy on a laptop.
Currently I have a Vaio Z which has a high resolution 8-bit panel and excellent colour reproduction (once calibrated). I'm looking to downgrade though, firstly for money reasons...
Some time ago, I got a prebuilt hfx micro (http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/htpccases/hfx-micro-bundle) with AMD 4850e and integrated HD 3500 graphics for very cheap. The case is marketed at the 'luxury' market and costs a fair bit, especially as you need expensive proprietary internal...
I just came across this thing. Never even heard of the like before.
http://www.scan.co.uk/products/lycom-st-138-25-sata-hardware-raid-01-and-big-drive-dual-compactflash-adaptor-turn-your-cf-to-ssd
It's an adaptor where you plug in two compact flash cards into a 2.5" frame. Configured in...
I'm doing a bit of a system rejig and I'm selling my Intel X-25M 80gb. I'm replacing this with a much smaller ssd for the OS only, and using Steam + NTFS bridges to run games stored on normal spinny drives.
For that I've got a choice - I can get a largish single 7200rpm 3.5" drive, or there's...
Basically, can I run these:

On one of these:

I don't have a soldering kit to wire my own LEDs, and I don't really want to buy one :).
EDIT: I've just realised that the middle hole on a 3pin is empty...
Photo below is of the toolless mechanism in a Lian Li PC-8FIA. You're meant to pull the bar against the 5.25 cage to secure the CD drive, without needing any screws.
Unfortunately, as you can see in the photo, 'A' (where there is a small bolt) won't be able to fit into 'a' as the screw hole...
So after cutting out a case window panel in an aluminium (Lian Li) case, what's the best way of smoothing down the cut edges?
I've used some medium grade files but the edge isn't as smooth as I'd like. I've heard of diamond files, but would something like sandpaper or a dremel attachment be...
On my work computer my screen has started to flicker about once an hour and go black for about a second. Happens randomly and not related to if I'm doing something graphically intensive.
The machine is a hackintosh that's totally stable (i7-750 @ 3.2Ghz). Most components are new but the gpu...
Quick 'emergency' question.
I'm sleeving a 24-pin power cable and bolloxed up - I labelled each wire individually (and took photos of wire placement) but two of the labels fell off.
It's two black wires that are next to each other. Does their order matter? I've heard that you can mix up...
I'm looking to replace the stock fan on my corsair hx850 for modding purposes (red led - I have my psu with the fan taking air from the inside of the case).
I've never so much as opened up a psu before, so I was wondering if it's a simple matter of unscrewing the fan, replacing it with a new...
Looking to get into case modding with a dremel, but I'm a student stuck in a single (albeit sizeable) room. I've got a small workbench that I use for simple stuff.
I was wondering how messy dremelling is - would it be ok to dremel aluminium cases indoors if I put a cardboard box underneath...
Guys I'm sick of my microsoft bluetooth 6000 losing signal all the time while im playing fps games.
I'm looking for a keyboard with a similar footprint (no numberpad) but I really want that's got mechanical switches and is illuminated. I've found illuminated (big) mechanical keyboards, and...
What would performance be like if you RAID together a GEN1 and a GEN2 Intel X25m 80GB?
Would you see a performance drop when compared to the GEN2 alone?
Bit of a noob question :). I'm looking to get a cordless drill with a 13mm chuck (as opposed to the normal 10mm). This is so I can use a 120mm hole saw (the arbors don't fit into 10mm chucks).
Will my existing drill bits be compatible with it?
Cheers.
So it's Christmas again and it's time to get another graphics card. I have a 5870 that's serving me very well so far, except it get's rinsed by my mate's 480 in any benchmark or game that uses tessellation (much to my chagrin).
What's the best option
(1) Get a second 5870 and crossfire...
I'm just starting out with overclocking and after practising on my work machine I thought I'd try to reach 4Ghz on my gaming desktop.
I've got a stable 4Ghz (20 linx cycles) at 82deg load with multipler 21, BCLK 190.
However, since I only have 1333Mhz RAM, my RAM speeds are currently stuck...
I've got a great deal on 3 Intel 80GB X-25M SSDs (I already have one) so I was thinking of putting them together in RAID 0. This is for a machine that's pretty much gaming dedicated.
I'm looking for a RAID controller at a reasonable price - about $250 or £150. I've heard good things about...
I'm thinking about getting this case for a compact water cooling set up.
http://www.kustompcs.co.uk/acatalog/info_1582.html
Couldn't find any watercooling builds with this case anywhere. The front hard drive bays can be removed however, and I was thinking about fitting in a dual...
