I've got a thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme with scythe 21F 120mm fan on an Abit IP35 Pro with an antec p182
this solution works very well and I think I got the HSF at CrazyPC
Time Machine: I may use it but SuperDuper works pretty well already
Spaces: I've never used it in Linux and I doubt I'll use it on my MBP
Unified Look: about damn time
Finder Improvements: see previous comment
Core Animation: so long as developers don't bloat up their apps with worthless...
You get what you pay for. If you pay nothing, you may want a lot from it, but you can't complain when reliability and/or function and features are not as good as commercial software.
While it isn't free (and just to reiterate what's already been said), SageTV has been nothing but stable and...
While I still love my hauppauge PVR-250, I just returned my PVR-500. That is the worst tuner I've ever seen. When it came out, it was hailed. Then they switched tuners (Phillips -> Samsung) and the problems started streaming in. They keep insisting it's a driver issue but can't put out a decent...
I would say this is a great loss (and while it is for many, for me it's not) but I gave up on it a while back. I spent time getting it tweaked and finally had it close to what I wanted when something with it went horribly wrong and I had to uninstall/reinstall and lost all my tweaking.
It...
Really like my P150. My last case was a coolermaster that was pretty loud with a bunch of 80mm fans. What I wanted with this build was something quiet. I'm not overclocking much anymore so I didn't need tons of airflow.
The looks of the case are different. Some don't like the white because of...
When I got my p150, I thought the PSU was dead, but after messing around with the motherboard/case connectors I found that it was working.
I put 2 92mm Nexus fans in front and keep the tri-cool 120mm fan on medium. There's very little noise at all from those fans or the PSU fan. Right now...
I've got my HTPC connected to my HDTV via DVI and my cable box connected via component cables. You "could" use a splitter (actually a combiner) but I've never done that. I've seen 1:2 splitters but am not familiar with 2:1 combiners (2 inputs for 1 output). That's why I went with component and...
Yeah, I had no problems installing over my previous 2.2 release. However, I had to stop using Cayar's STV. It isn't all bad though. After adding nielm's Dynamic Menus plugin, Show Analyzer and DirMon, and unlocking some of the hidden features already in version 4, it's pretty close to my old...
Antec p150
it's $160 at newegg but comes with an Antec 430W HE modular PSU
supposedly is very quiet
has 120mm fan in the back and 2 92mm fans up front
hard drive suspension system for noise damping
preinstalled sound damping material to the side panels
downside: it only comes...
well, now that that's settled
it sure was nice to have the embodiment of the voice of the people to grace us with his presence and tell us what to think
since you say it sucks, it must really suck
I'm looking to build a new system and after reading the SPCR article, this case is at the top of my list. I don't want windows. I don't want bling. White, while not my first choice, is a nice departure from the standard beige or black.
Some of you people need to go back to grade school and...
As a matter of fact, I was just about to order a VGA cable for my mac mini but didn't know where to look. I'm trying to connect to my 2005fpw and the DVI is already being used by my PC. Looks like pccables will fit the bill.
Yep. I had the same problem. It was the timings. I used the ffdshow settings from Karnis at AVS Forum. Even though it was initially designed for a Mits (what I have), it should help some.
Here's the thread:

If you've got good cooling in your case, the P4 would be great because of HT.
If you want a cooler system without a lot of fans, the A64 would be better.
Like was suggested over at genmay, check your PSU. Remove all unnecessary devices and see if it works better.
You're probably putting a lot more stress on a PSU that came from Dell, not known for the most robust PSUs.
When I got comcast HD last year (just moved to town), they wanted to charge me either $90 for the Pro Install or $30 for the basic install service. I told them I didn't need it (for cable or modem). I knew what I was doing.
After going around with the "tech" person, I got to a supervisor and...
I've tried what was posted above, but I'm still stuck with 640x480 when I go to the config menu.
is there something I need to do with the autoexec.cfg file to get D3:RoE to use it?
are the custom resolution settings (trying to get 1680x1050 for my 2005fpw) all I put in the autoexec.cfg...
Sorry to bump an oldish thread, but if you want some guidance on how to setup your Mits, check out these two threads over at AVS:
Mitsubishi and Powerstrip
REVISED: Custom Resolution Guide for 1080i HDTV-HTPC-POWERSTRIP-RADEON
Right now, I'm using powerstrip with Karnis's 856x480 @...
Which box is it? Scientific Atlanta, Pace, or Motorola? And what model?
Also, it can vary by region as some cable providers will use older or custom firmware that doesn't enable certain ports and outputs.
I've used boxes the three above manufacturers and only 1 had optical out disabled...
what about HD movies? 1080i/720p widescreen > 480i/p
IMO, they look a lot better than DVD movies and have the DD5.1. I only wish they had DTS instead of DD5.1.
silly question perhaps, but is it possible to purchase this off the small business site if the only business associated with the purchase exists in my mind?
It's black, and depending on what the price is and when it will be available, I might be interested in selling the D5 if you or anyone is interested. It also has a genuine SilenX 320W PSU which I added to quiet it down.
The reports are that it should be out "soon" (as in weeks to a month or so).
I wish I had gotten that case instead of the D5. My problems with the D5 are 1) mATX PSU and 2) you need to jury-rig the HD cage to get it to support 2 hard drives and 1 DVD drive.
I'm using a DVI-D from my 9800Pro into my Mits 48413. However, I've also used the ATI DVI->component dongle.
When you start out, you may need to try different resolutions to correct for overscan. Check out this link at avs forums for a lot of helpful resolutions that work on different Mits...
I don't know about the 315 series, but my 413 (2004) model does NOT support 720p at all. It will not convert it to 1080i or 540p. Instead, it will simply show a blue screen. None of the Mits CRT RPTVs in the past have accepted 720p and unless they've changed something with the latest model, I...
That's the way TV tuners work. They temporarily save the incoming video to your hard drive and then pass it along to the video card. Post-processing takes place prior to the video getting sent out to the monitor.
Saving to the hard drive (temporarily) is the reason you actually get about a...
For the most part, it has more to do with the software that is used to view the stored mpeg. However, if you are using a tuner with a built-in decoder (PVR350) and bypassing your video card, then I don't know. Also, if you are using a software encoder (ATI AIW) then ffdshow may overload your cpu...
