For mobile a strong iGPU is a good thing. But desktop CPUs don't need a strong iGPU. GT1 is more than good enough for grandma's email, and no sane desktop-gamer uses integrated graphics.
I have a feeling a lot of 2500K/3570K/4670K users would upgrade to Skylake if Intel offered an affordable...
That's what happens when your top CPU is an underperforming 3 year old 32nm dinosaur, that uses more than twice the power of the 14nm competition.
Unfortunately, the result is Intel sitting on their butts for the past four years. No Intel, I don't want yet another quadcore with GT3 graphics...
The worst thing is, even the 3.5GB is slower than previously advertised, 196GB/s. Every review at release told me it was 224GB/s. If I had known this back then, I might have waited and gone for the 980. Well, nvidia got my money now, so mission accomplished I guess.
I'm still happy with my 970...
I pre-ordered Far Cry 4: Non-stop streaming-stutters. I learned my lesson. No more Ubisoft pre-orders for me. I will not buy the FC4 Season Pass now and AC4 will probably be my last AC unless I get confirmation from actual gamers that the new games run smoothly. But if Watchdogs still stutters...
Not entirely true. In the Nvidia Control Panel you can edit a game's profile and let it use only one card. But it's not the same as disabling SLI.
I noticed this in Fallout 3/NV. In SLI-mode, the water in puddles is broken. Even when the game runs on a single card. But after disabling SLI, the...
a 780 Ti is not really a requirement for nextgen games. Let's take a look at the numbers for Ryse: Son of Rome (specs for 1080p):
The minimum requirements are very low for such a beautiful game. People who will buy this game don't play on Intel HD graphics. I doubt the hidden object crowd is...
If we're talking about AAA-games: Thief. Because I loved the original games. Big mistake, two months later it was 50% off already.
Nowadays, with all the pre-order bonus dlc and season pass crap I just wait until the full package is really cheap until I buy. Especially with Ubisoft...
Exactly. If you don't mind playing with reduced texture quality, then sure, 2GB is fine. But if you want the best textures, you do NOT want to be stuck with a 2GB card in 2015.
"just" swaps them out? The moment that happens a game becomes unplayable. Try playing Thief on a 2GB card with high or very high textures. Awful stutters every time you turn around!
You (conveniently) forget to mention price. Usually consumers win, by getting that similar performance for less money (6870 vs 5850). The problem is, with the 285 you have to pay more money.
It reminds me of the 5770 launch. That card was more expensive than the 4870 at launch, but slightly...
No doubt the 4Gb version will cost a lot more than $ 249 though.
Not always no. Especially if you game @1080p. But as long as the 280 is still available, I see no reason why anyone would pick the 285 over a card with more bandwidth.
Well, I suppose this means I will buy this game when it's real cheap, or when I have a 4GB card. Although, if what specops is saying is true, that won't really matter much. Hopefully Nvidia can optimize their drivers. But I doubt they will... not 3 months after release.
I must say, those...
I'm curious. What would happen with my 660's in Watch Dogs, with their weird "2GB on a 192-bit bus" configuration?
With MSI-afterburner, in Skyrim, I never ever see vram usage go over 1500 MB. Is this because afterburner doesn't understand the card's memory configuration, or is the card simply...
Any news? Is the GFWL shutdown still planned for July? That's less than two months away, and I still have a backlog of GFWL-games! Should I play them now, or will I be able to install/activate them after the shutdown?
Is an overclocked 780 worth it coming from 660-SLI?
I bought a second 660 a few months ago, and SLI is fast and works fine most of the time.... but there are many little, annoying things that add up:
Bethesda games with bugged water/HDR. Indie games without SLI profiles that can't quite reach...
Are you sure? I want a 780, but somehow it feels like buying a 7950GT just before the release of 8800GTX. Very fast, but hopelessly outdated only a few months later.
I guess it all depends on how important that new memory architecture is.
QKSILVR73, very interesting. Do you have Batman Arkham City? I would like to see those benchmark results!
I'm wondering though; you have a noname 750w? No power problems? I have a 660w Seasonic, and I'm thinking about buying a 780 and use a 660 for physx. But I'm not sure the PSU can handle...
In case you missed it, today is the final day for this kickstarter. Cyan needs just a little bit more to reach the Oculus Rift stretch goal. So what are you waiting for? Help them out!
In all cases? The new consoles are disappointingly weak, but have huge amounts of RAM. What if future games go easy on FLOPS, but have huge texturepacks?
I'm talking about 1080p, 60fps, Ultra settings and 4x MSAA.
I know that 4 (or even 3) GB is overkill right now. But would a Fallout 4 (assuming it uses the same engine as Skyrim) be able to run @60fps on a 770 (aka 680) with a texture-pack that fills up the entire 4GB of VRAM?
I really can't justify spending money on these cards, with the new consoles almost upon us. Who knows what the system requirements will be for next year's ports...
My fear is that the 2GB 760 Ti will this generation's 256MB 7800 GT: Fast enough for now, but outdated before you know it.
All current foliage tech:
- Grass: 2 sprites sticking out of the ground. Yuck.
- Leaves on trees: ugly flat textures with transparancy that look fake when viewed from an angle
- Foliage-sprites that turn as you change position. It's not 1995 anymore guys!!!
- Static grass and bushes. I want to...
Just one 6-pin power-connector for a 140W card sounds a bit tight: can't be good for overclocking. Oh well, I never overclock my GPU anyway. Maybe the factory-OC'd cards will come with two 6-pins.
BTW: Koween, I'm not saying all ATI-cards are bad. That 3870 was one of the best cards I ever...
Could be an interesting card. Looking forward to some real reviews though. Coming from a GTX460, what would be best? The 660, HD7870, or 660-Ti? They are all about twice as fast as the 460.
I must say I really like the price/performance of the 7870, but there are just too many black-screen...
Yes there are some minor improvements, but nowhere near the jump in quality during the 2004-2006 pixelshader revolution:
GTA San Andreas (2004) vs. GTA IV (2008)
or
Unreal Tournament 2004 vs. Unreal Tournament 3 (2007) (scroll down for screenshots)
