Need some redundant, network attached storage cheap...any ideas?

I'm in a dorm room, I have my main PC and the laptop that I take to classes. Both go into a router which goes into the wall jack, so they both have internet access. I'm worried about Murphy's law catching up to me now in my Senior year, I haven't really had any huge problems with losing data...

Increasing output power of AP and wireless card?

I believe some linksys AP's can be flashed with a homebrewed type bios that will give you a bunch more functionality, including upping it's wireless power. I don't really have any info about it though....hm..to google...

    want a bigger hard drive

I have an Acer Aspire 2010 and I believe all I have to do is unscrew a plate on the bottom of the laptop to access the HD, shouldn't bee too difficult to service...that model might work the same way. Check pictures online if you can, newegg.com might have more detailed images.

Acer laptop gave me a scare...

That sounds like an older laptop...laptops nowadays are designed so that they can be more easily accessable, at least for the parts that you might be likely to change (ram and hard drive mainly). On my acer, there's a plate on the bottom I should be able to pop off and take a look right at the...

Acer laptop gave me a scare...

I turned on my Acer Aspire 2010 this morning at work, and as windows was pretty much loaded, I picked it up and was moving it to the desk as I noticed some form of blue screen of death, and it restarted. On restarting, it kept saying there was no bootable cd-rom in the drive, which was normal...

    What laptop bag is good?

I would definitely like to hear more. Does it just own it in size, quality, or just overall? It's hard to tell how the size is on that bag, so I think we need some picspicspics! With a laptop in there if available...it does look like a nice bag though from the stock pics on their site.

    School Notebook

I got an acer for my Senior year at college here, and I'm loving having it, but I treat it really well. I have an old old ibm 701c that's gotta be slmot 10 years old that still runs fine. Realy depends what you need it for...but if you want to do any kind of real gaming, get the Acer...

    What laptop bag is good?

I'd be very interested to hear this comparison, because I've been looking at both as well. The Swiss Army "Synergy" bag looks like it could hold my Acer 15.4" nicely, with all that padding on the back to keep the laptop from crashing into my spine. But, I did hear good things about Booq bags...

Okay I think I'm really gonna do it this time

Sounds very close to the Acer laptop I just purchased a few weeks ago after a year or two of waffling about what kind to get. It just seemed very well-rounded and capable in everything, while staying quite cheap compared to everything else out there. Looks like that exact model isn't on newegg...

My new laptop Dell D600 for $250

Awesome battery life too! Well, here is the product link at dell for that laptop, which lists the weight at 4.68 pounds, but it might be more if you have 2 batteries in there, but that's not really heavy. I'd say that's around average. Definitely a great deal with that kind of battery...

    Who makes this noname notebook?

It looks like that might be the same case that eMachines has used in their models inthe past, but I'm not sure.

What a difference 10 years makes!! (pics)

Heh, kinda looks like my setup as well. I purchased an IBM 701c a few years ago on eBay for about $150, and have used it the past few years by my side in the dorm room next to my main pc, I would just leave it on for weeks and have it run AIM and mIRC. Wouldn't ever crash, would just get a...

    Post your Pocket PC Favorites!

I don't do actual surfing on my old iPaq, but I do sync it with my desktop and I have avantgo channels setup, which is a free service. I have a bunch of channels, but the main ones are Wired, The Onion, and CNet News.com.

Your Laptop Picture [H]ere (read first post for rules please)

Time for more retro goodness: IBM 701c, with the 'Butterfly' keyboard. Running Windows 95 OSR2, rock solid...runs AIM and mIRC for weeks at a time without rebooting in the dorm room, while I turn off my main pc when I go to sleep. 16 Megs of ram, but it's been upgraded to a 4 gig hard...

Which USB thumbdrive do you use ??

I have a PNY 128 meg USB 2.0 one. Works great on windows an macs, great for moving files back and forth between them. Has a write protect switch which is good for when I throw Ad-Aware on it to take to someone elses computer in the dorm and I don't want an infection to jump onto it. Also has...

AOpen XC Cube EZ18-PW PSU Large Enough?

I have the EZ18 and it's running fine with a 2800xp, 512 ddr400 (running at 333), and the same 80 gig drive you're looking at. It's close to your config, but the vid card is the big question. However, if you check the Recommended Hardware List for the box, you'll see that the 9800 pro is on...

Are these BIOS settings right for my 2800XP?

Take a look: It's a 2800xp barton chip which should be running at a 333 fsb...I'm guessing I've forgotten why, but I need to put it in as 166 there, and it'll work ok, but I'm confused. Initially, the CPU Bus Frequency area was at 100, and the post screen was showing I was running a...

Is there any way to speed up PowerPoint Printouts?

I work in the computer lab here on campus, and every time people need to print out notes for class, it's usually a bunch of powerpoint slides. I see a 15 page document in the print queue is atound 150 megs, and it really bogs down the printing for everyone else. The only real comments I see on...

Annoying XP Pro optical driver issue...

For a long time, I've just been X'ing these pop up balloons out when my computer starts, but it's annoying. It's telling me that these drivers I don't need are not going to be loaded because they don't quite agree with XP. These are the drivers in question: Also, in the drivers section...

Antec 350W PSU - is it enough for this setup?

Well, I went ahead and installed it, and everything appears to be running fine. Nothing abnormal starting up, and copying files from one drive to another is working fine. No real difference in the voltages either, as far as I can see.

    wrist pains

Just having proper positioning of the keyboard and mouse is important. I found I was slouching and reaching horribly in my chair at college, so eventually I just got a slide out tray to attach to the desk which can adjust to different levels. Check google to see all the different sites out...

Antec 350W PSU - is it enough for this setup?

Nope, no OCing on this, the mobo doesn't really support it without doing some mods. GCK, sounds like if you pulled off that rig on 300W, I should be ok...I'm thinknig the 9800 is probably a little more power hungry than my Ti4200 (I could be wrong though). Any comments on using a molex...

first computer (no display on monitor)

Is there a form of onboard video on the motherboard? Maybe it's being outputted there and you've already got the monitor plugged into the ATI card? Other than that...maybe double check to make sure that the video card is seated correctly in the slot.

Antec 350W PSU - is it enough for this setup?

I currently have 3 optical drives (CD-RW, DVD, and new DVD burner), two hard drives, and I needed to install a controller card to get my DVD burner in since I was out of IDE ports on the mobo. I have another hard drive to be installed, but I'm a bit worried about power issues. I know the...
