Well, since I was out of ideas and everyone else seemed to be as well I went for the nuclear option and reinstalled Windows.
Surprise surprise the USB issue has not gone away at all.
Trying to fix these BSoD issues have really proven to be extremely ruinous for my PC, my free time, my mood and...
WELL.
Everything seems to have gone from bad to way worse. Since resetting the CPU clocks my PC boots up extremely slowly/sluggishly and I am now also getting a constant USB device being connected/disconnected sound. I also get the "USB Device Not Recognised" pop-up but when I click on it I...
I'm not sure what you mean. I have no intentions of keeping my CPU at stock clocks for the foreseeable future. Just until I can pinpoint the problem. I've also never had the crashes this entire thread is about while playing video games. They have only happened while browsing/watching videos.
So...
Did you check the results I posted? That was with the CPU OC in place.
I currently have everything reverted to stock settings and I'm about to run the entire battery of tests again.
Oh don't get me wrong. I have done that. Frankly I'm still amazed you can update GPU drivers now without having to even reboot or wipe the previous drivers.
I just can't seem to find the issue causing these BSoDs I've been having. I thought the last wipe/clean install I did solved the problem...
I've already done the complete clean install twice though. First time using Disk Sweeper and the second time using the newer DDU.
I ran the Aida64 stability test for a few hours while I was away today and these are the results: http://imgur.com/a/oDm2a
Notice any problems or issues here...
Since running at stock would not give me a conclusive answer I actually decided to run some stability/stress tests on the CPU to see if it's no longer stable. I figure that is the most effective way to actually know if the CPU or its OC is at fault. Or could there be some other reason I'd need...
I think I can now say I have completely ruled out the RAM as a potential cause.
First I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic and received 0 errors.
Then I ran a full MemTest86 test, you can see the results of it below:
So now that I've definitely crossed that off the list of possible problems (and...
The only thing that is overclocked is the CPU so I guess I can drop that to stock settings. The only problem is I have no idea what exactly is causing the problem so I'll have no way of knowing if removing the CPU OC is actually helping outside of the long term.
I'll run MemTest86 to see if my...
UPDATE:
Alas, bad news. I thought the problem was fixed but I just had another BSoD. On the bright side, I managed to get the BSoD info this time using Bluescreenview.
==================================================
Dump File : 111516-15459-01.dmp
Crash Time : 15/11/2016...
So I used DDU to once again wipe all the drivers I could find and performed a clean installation. Back up and running again and I hope it will last this time. Fingers crossed.
I totally forgot about this. I still had 1.45 on my PC too. Sadly my C:\Windows\MiniDump folder is empty. I think I might have automatically cleaned it out hen shutting down the PC or something.
According to Nvidia Inspector I have the Samsung memory. Does that change anything?
This tearing...
Hello there,
Today I had a BSoD out of the blue (heh). The BSoD mentioned "nvlddmkm.sys" (I did not manage to get the entire error code but if the BSoD happens again I'll be sure to write it down.) so I looked it up and found many people having issues dating back to 2009. I then set out to try...
Nvidia pretty aggressively limits its cards these days. Just get a card with a good cooler/warranty/support. You kind of have to rely on the luck of the draw to get a good overclocker.
Sure if I'm going to pay the same (high) price I might as well get the best I can get for the money right? Although I do kind of worry about the big fat cards since they will more or less remove the opportunity for me to double up on the 1070 in the future.
From what I gather the EVGA also...
Hi, hello there.
I'm going to be staying in Belgium for the foreseeable future and I'm having trouble getting my hands on a good GTX 1070s.
The first thing I've noticed is that GPUs are kind of expensive here. Even the cheaper ones seem to cost around €450-€470 if I include the shipping costs...
Yeah I'm sure you felt really happy with your Titan Xs once the GTX980Ti came out. Money well spent!
Not sure what your other comments are about either. Do you feel some kind of strange need to make PC builds into e-penis contests about wealth and power? I guess that would explain the multiple...
Good article but I really wish people would stop comparing these cards to the Titan X.
I know it makes an impression if you say how these cards are better than a $1000 card but let's be real here. The Titan X just isn't a good card. It's a silly showpiece.
The 980Ti is the card these should be...
I cannot see this as anything other than an Nvidia tax.
I'm praying on hands and knees that AMD will be competitive this time but from what I hear Nvidia is going to have the high-end market on lockdown.
Yeah I tried all the combinations possible. 1 card alone in either slot. 2 cards in either slot. Doesn't seem to make a difference.
Right now I'm thinking it might be an issue with one of these:
The 6970
The PSU
The Motherboard
That's good to know.
I see you have (or at least had) a similar build to mine. I was planning to build a new PC early next year but maybe I'll do what you did and upgrade video cards instead. This (nonstandard) CrossfireX configuration has given me a lot of trouble the last few years and maybe...
It's just weird that the HD6970 does seem to work without the drivers installed but crashes the entire PC on log-in when the drivers are installed. Is that possible for a "dead" GPU?
Dude...
Where are all these assumptions coming from?
You asked me to check my overclock, which I did. I just didn't know that you meant CPU overclock so I reset the GPU overclock instead.
You also said something about overheating, I checked the temps and they were fine. The fans also didn't ramp up...
I've been up all night testing it, how else would I have been able to get all of the above information?
Are you saying the problem is the power draw/PSU? Is there any way to test this without the use of a multimeter?
I'm also not sure why it would suddenly crap out on me and even refuse to...
The RAM seems to be fine and I did not see any heat buildup or hear any fan speed increases recently.
The 6970 was also not overclocked, in fact it was slightly underclocked to standard 6970 spec in order to decrease the stress on the 6950. (The MSI 6970 was sold with a small factory overclock.)
Earlier today my monitor suddenly went black and my entire PC locked up. I had to force the PC to shut down by holding down the power button.
I then restarted the computer, got to the Win7 log-in screen, entered my password and pressed Enter. At this point the same thing happened: Black screen...
What a strange series of events.
Even disregarding these PR issues, AMD seems to be getting less healthy by the second.
Isn't there anyone out there who can rise up and get into the CPU and/or GPU business? The last thing I want is for Nvidia to run out of competition. Especially given their...
Typo fixed, thanks for the extra eyes. Please PM me next time. Thanks. - Kyle
Thanks for the analysis though. Always love reading these. Although it makes me sad that a card like the 970 is regarded as "mid range".
Not really sure why this is such a good upgrade path for 2500K/2600K users. The improvements seem very minor.
Not going to upgrade because of the new chipset either. We all know how intel can be with chipsets.
Not sure how I feel about slapping an award on a product based on a preview.
Kind of disappointed by the gains too. Although I suppose 4K gaming just isn't feasible yet anyway.
Looking at the price difference it seems to me that the real winner here would be SLI 970 compared to CrossfireX 290X and SLI 980.
Best of both worlds.
The GTX970 is a great move from Nvidia. Their highly inflated prices were getting quite annoying for a while there.
I'm glad they're putting more effort into value.
The 980 might be getting nearly all of the attention, but it's the 970 that is the real news here.
Well I just installed the 3603 motherboard BIOS so my overclock was effectively removed. Even my RAM went back to less-than-default 1333.
I guess I'll run Prime95 again and see what's up.
Definitely not looking forward to having to redo the entire CPU overclocking process though. I hate...
Some things have changed.
CPU Cooler:
Antec Khuler 920
GPU:
Asus Radeon 6950 2GB (unlocked to 6970 specs)
+
MSI 6970 Lightning
Getting the crossfire to run properly took some doing but they are mostly fine now.
So you think that old CPU overclock is no longer working?
The motherboard BIOS...
