    Another Steam User Record Set

It's been over a month and I still can't buy anything on the Steam store. I can play, I just can't buy. Customer service has not responded once in the month+. Steam may be doing well in numbers of people online, but there is a huge problem with customer service not helping people with...

House Approves Sweeping, Warrantless Electronic Spy Powers

Wonderfully cogent argument. I'll just put you in the "dumbass" category. Please come back with some actual objections to the FISA (amended). What are your specific objections to how the U.S. handles interception of communications where one end is located outside the US? What are your...

House Approves Sweeping, Warrantless Electronic Spy Powers

Reverse targeting is illegal. I can't spy on Jose in Mexico if my real target is Joe in New Jersey. As someone who actually has to use FISA every day, I can assure you that reverse targeting would be a great way to lose one's job.

Any advantage when STB rental isn't expensive?

The extra tuners are nice. I've found many, many times since I installed my Ceton where I've been recording more than two shows at a time. Using your own computer as the recorder is nice as there is vastly more space available to record shows. But what I like most is that FiOS puts copy...

T-Mobile Adds Customers as Battle over AT&T Merger Continues

So you'll buy a GSM phone for use on the T-Mobile network, bail for zero penalty and then somehow magically convert it to a CDMA phone to use on Verizon's network? AT&T knows that once T-Mobile is gone, there is no major GSM competition left for people to go to with their phones.

Sprint Cutting Unlimited 4G Data Plans

My wife got Sprint and Hot Spot because she has no access to regular internet where she is. I send her TV shows via drop box and it's easy to do 2GB per day. We could do more, but she only can tether while she is at home. At first, I was mad at Sprint's change. Then I realized you can get...

Sprint Cutting Unlimited 4G Data Plans

No grandfather clause? My wife just got Sprint with a 2 year contract one month agou so she can actually have internet service with tethering. $30 extra for a lousy 5GB? Are you kidding me? Cell phone companies in America are awful. I can't fathom why anyone bothers with them.

AT&T Begins Sending Throttling Warnings to Top Data Hogs

My wife went with Sprint specifically because of the unlimited data plan. She can't get internet where she is so has to tether to do so. Plus, I send her files with DropBox. One compressed TV show at 2GB would be AT&T's entire monthly allowance. At least we have competition for a little...

Opinions on these 3 Lian-Li cases?

I should add that I have a B25F case (290mm cards allowed) and a vapor-x 5870 that, as it turns out, is the same length as a 580. Although the vapor-x has the pci-e plugs on the back for added difficulty, I had little difficulty fitting two in (although I only have one now). The plugs may be...

    WOW! Love the Ceton Card!

I have a Ceton card. Love it. I pre-ordered it and didn't mind paying the extra $100. If you can, get FiOS. Or move somewhere FiOS is available. Almost nothing has copy flags on it. My work flow, for shows/movies I want to keep is - - Record - Convert to MPG using VideoReDo. I...

Media Center removed in latest Windows 8 build :/

My PC is my TV. And if I had an LCD TV, I'd have my PC sitting next to it, or at least hooked up to it. As it is, I just use a monitor as my TV. Like a commenter in the linked article said - I feel bad for the cableCARD tuner manufacturers if MC is dropped. I guess MS figures they can...

Single large monitor or Eyefinity/Surround Gaming

I purchased 3 HP ZR24w for gaming. Tried them in landscape and it was rather awesome. For the games I played, things were a bit stretched at the sides. But I can imagine some where it would be great (racing, FPS, maybe). It also was just a bit too wide for my desk. Then, I changed to...

Opinions on these 3 Lian-Li cases?

It looks like the default size for a 580 is 267mm. Possibilities:: 90 Allows for 400mm video cards so it's large enough. USB 3.0. Not toolless. No top fan, but there is a mount. 8.0x19.9x19.3in - 1.77cu. ft. Probably not enough features. Z60 The Z60 allows for 288mm cards...

    best 30" monitor value

wide gamut. It's the only drawback I can think of on the monitor. I have one sitting next the the ZR24w and it's obvious some of the colors (red and green) are over saturated. Of course, it's really nice to use the wide gamut when post-processing digital photographs.

Opinions on these 3 Lian-Li cases?

I have the B25F, which is similar to your first choice, the Z70. Except your choice is taller and deeper. I suspect many of the features and observations of my case will be similar to this case. The brushed aluminum is beautiful. Lian-Li cases are as understated in person as they look in...

    New Headphones

I'm looking at the online inventory. What store are you going to as they list inventory by store online. But, as a general rule, I'd go with one of the Sennheisers (202 or 418), unless you want one with a microphone, in which case the HS1A seems good. I seem to remember a review on [H] for...

    monitor for eyefinity

Unless you get a specific card that can handle it, you can run no more than two monitors from the DVI port and the third off of DisplayPort. So this means only one monitor needs the DisplayPort (unless you get an active DP-DVI adapter). Although if you want all the monitors to be the same...

    WTF Photo of the Day

So, are you saying you live in Baltimore? Because quoting crime stats about Baltimore was your response when I asked where you live. Baltimore city isn't exactly where I'd choose to live. So I don't. I live in a boring suburb where, like I said, there is no crime that I'm aware of.

    WTF Photo of the Day

Why would you feel the need to carry around a loaded gun? Where do you live, so I know not to go there. It must be a crime-ridden hell if you carry a loaded gun around frequently. On the other hand, where I live in MD it's quite safe. We had a crime here once. About 11 years ago.

    NVIDIA Reports 2Q Financial Results

Pretty good numbers considering the tough economy. The 500 series must be cheaper to make (maybe?) as their gross margins set a record. I maybe an AMD fan, but it's nice to see that we won't have to worry about nVidia disappearing any time soon.

Beats by Dr. Dre Studio Headphones Review @ [H]

I had an inexpensive pair of Sennheiser headphones (~$40) that, despite their price, had great sound. Plastic and bereft of a lot of fluff, they were still sturdy and comfortable. So I bought a pair of high-end Sennheiser HD 600s because of high ratings and having a balanced sound...

    grrr..I hate tv tuner cards

The Ceton card rocks. Even though I bought it at the intro price of $400, it is worth it. Save $15/month on DVR and record four shows at once. If you can get FiOS, do so. My technician was awesome (go unions!), the service is stupid fast - 25/25 with a jillion channels for &80/month...

AMD [H]ardOCP GamExperience in Your City??

I live in suburban MD outside DC. I think if you did Northern Virginia, it might be too far south to pull people from Philadelphia/NJ/NYC. However, if you did the gathering farther north, like in suburban MD, Baltimore, Wilmington, or Philadelphia, you'd get a bigger draw. Wilmington, DE...

    Newbie calibration question (ZR30W/ZR22W)

I'll go with color space as the likely problem. The ZR20w is 10-bit color. The colors should generally look more vibrant, especially reds. That would be the big clue. Go to a website with red in it (like this one...) and have the window crossing both screens. The difference should be obvious.

Need new monitor for editing photographs

If you work in 8-bit RGB, I'd go with the ZR24w as it's only an 8-bit monitor. I have 3 and the colors are pleasing, although the contrast is a bit low. I also have it's bigger brother, the 10-bit ZR30w and the more vibrant colors of the wide gamut are really noticeable, but I doubt that...

The HP ZR24w Scaling Issues Thread

Since the monitor doesn't have a scalar in it, I'm unsure why people thought it would ever be fixed. I figured the non-existent scalar was one of the reasons the ZR24w was ~$50 cheaper than its predecessor, the 2475.

    Sub-$300 HTPC

I like the idea of the e-350 + the Sugo case. The e-350 should be able to handle the needs you've mentioned and the Sugo case, while pricey, is a case worth keeping from build to build to build. As far as I'm concerned, there are two things you shouldn't skimp on - the case and the monitor...

    Just ordered Ceton InfiniTV 4.

Bleh to DRM!!!!! FiOS has almost nothing with copy protection except for a few random shows on one channel. Might be more channels, but I haven't checked them all. As a result, I'm recording everything in sight before they wise up.

    Cheapo HTPC + DVR

You can use a non-cable card tuner card to show/record digital cable channels as long as those channels are clear QAM channels (think I have the terminology correct). Basically, any channel that you could, in theory, receive with an antenna. I purchased a Hauppage TV tuner a few months...

Advice on video upgrade...I welcome your suggestions...

While a new monitor won't make games go faster, it will drastically improve your computing life. Since you aren't a big time gamer, I'd recommend, if money isn't as gig a deal for you, a 24" 1920x1200 IPS monitor. I find the better viewing angles and wider color gamut to be really nice...

    Craigslist a zr24w

What nataku00 said. The scalar on the ZR24w sucks. And by 'sucks' I mean I don't think it has one. Not a good monitor to hook up a console to. I have a ZR24w and love it, but I don't own a console gaming system, so it's one major drawback (or one of two - the contrast is a bit low)...

27" or 30" for my desk? Suggestions needed.

30" all the way. The size is simply awesome. Pricey, but they should last a long time. And, really, you probably keep monitors a long time, right? My monitor buying goes like this - 1992, 2001, 2010. The only thing I've ever kept for longer was a CD/RW drive that lasted from 2000-2010.

BD on a scale of 5 to 1.

I'll go with '3' for my answer. I suspect AMD will end up with a chip that competes, more or less, with the 2600K and the initial prices with be nearly identical. I do lot's of video encoding and I hope that I can do a BIOS upgrade and drop the Bulldozer right in. Handbrake can only...
