I just want to be clear that I do acknowledge that the 680 is faster in single player and is cheaper.
I'm just wondering where people are getting this notion that 680 somehow blows the 7970 away?
Where are you guys getting that the 680 kills the 7970 in BF3? That isn't true especially when it comes to the multi-player mode.

There is no way the HD 7970 is dropping down to $450. The performance of the cards are too close for that to happen.
AMD's driver crew needs to turn it to 11 & copy auto clocking combined with their cards headroom and you have a real monster there.
If you go with an 7970 you'll need to OC it unless you spend the money on an heavily OC'd model.
This 7970 just started to come down in price.

Buy a Sapphire 7970 and it will come with all the adapters you need. If you like eye candy then AMD is the way to go because of the extra memory.
It's pretty much an even wash at this point between the two performance wise, just OC the 7970 to at least 1GHZ and you're good.
Nvidia doesn't have much head room left with FERMI. Remember the issues with the 590 Meanwhile the 7970 has some nice OC range that will allow the 7990 to be a monster and to continue AMD's reign of the top end market.
As for the price, it's fair enough. That's what Nvidia charges for the 3GB...
You should also take a look HT Omega sound cards. They have a few models with built in head phone amps.Their cards use high quality chips & most have header pins so you can connect the front audio ports on your case to the sound card instead of your mobo.
Being tazed hurts a hell of a lot less than falling down some stairs. I personally would rather be tazed that only lasts as long as the juice is on as oppsed to being bruised, sore, & possibile broken bones.
Don't forget that tons of people hated SP2 as well. How dare MS turn a firewall on by default to protect the end users & OS. The issues with raw sockets, I could go on.
The three year upgrade cycle will keep people from getting entrenched like they did with XP. And it will keep versions of IE...
Considering IE7 was the first browser to run in a native Sand box mode you shouldn't be taking garbage. IE7 was also the first browser that stopped auto allowing ActiveX controls. IE7 also added built in anti Phishing tools. IE8 added the Smart Screen filter and took the sand box (Protected)...
Paul supporters knocked it off after the various sites told them to. The Obama bots complained up & down to no end how some "right wing" group was manipulating digg. But only Kevin Rose seemed to explain that left wing groups were doing it as well. The Huffington post should have been banned...
There is a reason AMD uses a small die strategy and then releases duel GPU cards for the high end & specialty markets.
Asus & Sapphire will probably release 8gb versions of the HD 6990 with 3 slot coolers the same as the 5970. There was also the water cooler on that Sapphire Atomic card they...
If it's a Dell, are you running the stock OEM PSU? I had a dying PSU give me similar problems in a Gateway PC.
OEM PSUs should not be trusted to last especially if you're pushing them with Nvidia cards.
OCZ memory should be ok as long as you don't try to OC it. OCZ was rock solid during the DDR2 days it's a shame what happened to them.
Corsair, G'Skill, & Patriot are my brands of choice.
You can buy special filter sheets you can cut to the size you need. They're made by 3m and you should be able to find them in hardware stores.
I'm going to do this soon at least for my PSU intake being on the bottom of my case.
I just went with this set, it's faster with lower latency right out of the gate. Nothing needed to do on my end. Of course it's dropped $5 since I bought the set.

I'm not using my USB3 ports but I've left them enabled since they don't hurt anything.
This card reader has a front USB3 port.

H67 is probably better for the OP, Z68 can't here soon enough. I just wish there were some better quality mATX H67 boards out right now.
I went with the Gigabyte UD3 because it was the best cheapest option for me at the time. I'll probably regret it in a year if I don't get a good Z68 board...
The OP asked about upgrading his CPU, Mobo, & Memory and was interested in Sandy Bridge. He did not say anything about wanting or needing a video card. On top of that Anthlons don't have L3 memory. So it's not even much of an upgrade just more cores.
Personally I normally go with the Phenom...
That's what kept me from getting it, I could understand $200+ if it was x68 or whatever LGA 2011 is called. But paying that much for P67 is a bit much.
16gigs is cheap compared to just a year ago. I went 8GB (2x4GB) Corsair Vengeance and will be buying more later this year depending if Intel ever releases their G3 SSDs.
Go with that combo & make sure you use the promo code: HARDOCP112A to get $15 off your build. That code wasn't there Sunday when I looked at that board, order soon because it expires on the 15th.
Exactly, just swap out the CPU, Mobo, & ram with your current build. Here are two 4GB memory...
If you're going to run stock just use the stock paste. It's been my experience that AS5 doesn't age well in the tube and is supposed to be applied to chips a certain way to really get the performance boost.
Bulldozer can't come out soon enough. AMD's current chip architecture is years old and badly needs an update to keep up in the mid range market, $175 - $250.
I say this a user of only Red Team video cards who would like to use purple for low end builds.
