Why Self-Driving Cars Must Be Programmed to Kill

Scenario: I'm sitting in the back of my autonomous car surfin the internet and some dumfuck steps out in front of my car. My car had better not choose to swerve around them and into an oncoming semi. It's probably okay to spill my drink but that's about it.

Dell buys EMC, how does this affect Vmware?

Apparently the forward looking guidance wasn't too positive in the earnings call. That combined with the uncertainty as to what Dell intends to do with their newfound position in VMWare has resulted in many analysts downgrading VMWare. Still though 22% down in a single day is harsh. Nearly...

Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

The best one I remember was: "Fucking children ..." As he locked the thread. But the gigantic yellow font is nice too. Found it: http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1785142&page=4&highlight=children

    Battlefield 4 **Official Discussion Thread**

Yeah you just have to remember that on his screen he probably hit you with 5+ bullets. You were dead, you just didn't know it yet. I am looking forward to the higher simulation rate. That in combination with ping limits on the server (<100ms) should result in a decent FPS experience...

    Battlefield 4 **Official Discussion Thread**

Those Arizona electric bills are crazy. Mine's $40/month for 1200 sqft condo in Vancouver. There's usually 2-3 weeks in the summer where we run the AC. I don't think we've had to turn the heat on in the winter yet in this place. As for BF4, the dusting on helicopters is annoying in the...

Night map is cool ... it's damn dark. Here's my first round ever of Graveyard - just squeaked out the MVP after joining late (brag). http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/battlereport/show/1/638940198774261120/327977445/ Silencer and IRNV are pretty much required but flashlights and flares...

GIGABYTE GTX 980 Ti G1 GAMING Video Card Review @ [H]

So, I thought I had pretty decent overlocking on my Gigabyte G1 980ti when I first bought it. Over time I discovered that it was pretty unstable. I'm back to stock clocks AND I've increased the voltage just to get it stable there. And my 2nd DVI port didn't work initially but then it did...

    Battlefield 4 **Official Discussion Thread**

I pretty much stopped using grips on everything except semi-auto shotguns (Ergo/Vertical). The spread decrease changes to the high RPM weapons ruins their at-range performance and adding an Angled/Folding grip to them just makes it worse. 2 bullet burst tap firing has pretty much always been...

Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

BF4 Summer Patch. 60 hz!! About damn time.

I think it shows the health they had when you died. That said, there's still some strangeness going on. A few nights ago on Operation Locker a friend and I were playing against each other. We both came around a corner, I had a Aug A3 and got 2 or 3 shots off centre of mass that were all...

Anyone still playing BF4 or is it dead?

Yeah, most servers run some of the DLC content. Even if it's only one map in the rotation then people without Premium can't play on that server at all even if it's currently on a map they own. It's dumb. What's worse is the people who only bought some of the DLC packs individually, they...

Post your GTX 980 TI Overclock Results

Weird? Dunno what else to say. I setup my ram disks when the OS first loads. I don't have any of these problems. When the games I'm playing are <20GB then I'll install them on a ram drive and image the drive. I can then dynamically switch between installed games by doing a raw copy of the...

HTPC OS for the computer illiterate: Pulling my hair out!

Crickets ... (sorry) I'm probably going in the opposite direction in terms of ease-of-use. I've just installed Ubuntu 14.04 on my HTPC. Everything you want should be possible in Linux - I'm still in the process of piecing together my HTPC from a software perspective but I don't need half...

Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

I'm not criticizing. I'm just surprised that anyone else besides me spends that much money on video games. I built my rig specifically for BF:BC2, BF3, BF4 and my hardware expenses are way more than $2500. The hardware cost gets amortized across all the games I play. But here we're talking...

Crowdfunding is fine. The problem is that Star Citizen is a never-ending crowdfunding campaign. They've outright stated that this was the secret to their success: never stop the funding campaign. It's how they've raised $77M or whatever it is now. My problem is that it's a game that I do...

Holy shit I was about to spout off about how dumb you were except I looked it up. The HDMI port is really HDMI 1.4. WTF were they thinking? I can see getting rid of DVI but including an HDMI port that doesn't support 4k60 is asinine.

EA rumored to unveil next-gen Battlefield 5 at E3 this week

BC2 wasn't perfect but it was pretty awesome. Now for some corrections: 1) There was more than one copy-paste shack. Actually, BF4 hasn't really improved on the level of destruction found in BC2. It's still canned animations and most buildings don 't even collapse. 2) Hardline's gunplay...

Yeah, that's what I did. Works well enough. GTX 970 users are also complaining about flickering so I'm not super convinced it's an AMD Crossfire artifact.

Same transistor width means nearly nothing. The cell library is what matters and those are almost assuredly different between the fabs. Also, AMD likely uses custom cells for some logic and those would need to be redesigned/simulated as well. Moving from TSMC to GloFo would mean...

    PowerColor's Next-Gen Radeon R9 390X Pictured

Correct. I will also add that "tapeout" or "design is finalized" means that the final GDS2 gets sent to the fab and then the fab builds the masks. Which yes, does take a few weeks to a couple of months. But if you wanted to switch fabs at this point you likely need to switch cell libraries...

    Battlefield 4 **Official Discussion Thread**

DMRs don't have perfect ADS accuracy and that starts to matter at 4-500 meters. Getting a headshot with a RDS at that distance by "clicking on the scope glint" is pure luck. I also have Mastery tags on all the DMRs - Twisted is extrapolating a lucky shot into a supposed game mechanic. That...

I don't think DMRs work like that. I know they don't. I agree that sniper rifles shouldn't be nerfed but don't spout bs like that. My soldier is Haemato if you feel some pressing need to see if I might know what I'm talking about.

Remember in 2015 we will turn it around... #nopreorders

Preordering made sense when it meant you were reserving a physical copy of software that was likely to be in short supply compared to demand. Coincident with this was the fact that most games worked "out of the box". Nowadays every AAA game requires patches and AMD/nvidia driver updates...

    Battlefield: Hardline

Yeah I've been watching the player count on bfhstats.com ... it's abysmal. I think it got even worse after GTAV came out. Happy I saved $70-$120. I figured it would stay strong until Battlefront but nope. In other news, GTAV is awesome. My time is split between it and BF4 now.

    Grand Theft Auto V

I'm running Crossfire R9 290s and Eyefinity. But my resolution is weird - 3840x800@120Hz (no bezel comp). It runs pretty smooth but only after I loaded the 15.4 Beta driver, before that it was stutter city. I've had 1 crash in ~25 hours of play so it's quite stable. Lucky me I guess.
