I've been planning for a while to build myself a new machine around the vista launch so I could take advantage of cheaper Conroes, DX10 vido cards, and the like. However, my Radeon 9800 decided to die on me this week, and so I'm in the market for a AGP card to hold me over until my big upgrade...
Eve-Online will have a DX10 engine as well, looks like they'll be trying to take advantage of just about everything the first version of DX10 cards have to offer.
I have experience borging 500ghz+ at my old High school (where I also worked in IT over the summers) and I'll add to the refrain saying do not ever borg without permission. That being said, I have found most people I've worked with very sympathetic to folding, in my experience, bandwidth is what...
I recently got a refurbished Seagate 15k.4 SCSI drive, which I am really enjoying. My problem is that I know I can get more single user performace by tweaking the cache settings with Seatools enterprise. The drive, however, shows up as a "CSC 73GB 15k Refurbished" in Seatools and it doesn't...
My GF uses a old HP Omnibook (P2 366, 64mb) for word processing and basic web tasks, and plans to use it for some time, (at least a few years). She recently needed her OS re-installed and I out 2k on the machine because I couldn't stand having her use 98. The problem is that with her...
Most of the time temps like that are caused by a heatsink not sitting flat on the cpu, or from re-using the stock thermal pad after removing the heatsink. Since you have re-installed the heatsink we'll assume that it's sitting flat, although if nothing else works re-installing it again might be...
Bundle quality aside, those Tech Tour events are usually a lot of fun and quite informative. AMD puts on a bit of a show, free stuff is given out, and dinner is provided free. I really enjoy the chance to talk to some AMD engineers and marketing people. You can often find out info that is not...
Sometimes it's hard to explain to people why we DC, but we're very blessed to have the work of some skilled and passionate poets on hand to help. relic and some others have put together some verse that I have loved for quite a while. Point people here if you have trouble explaining, and if...
Some of the oldies already know my position towards SETI. It's interesting scientific research, but there are projects out there with much more pressing goals. F@H and UD are both projects with great potential to save lives. So although it's kinda sad to see the project that made DC famous fall...
Nice to see you're still at this James, How many times have you tried to quit DC now? :)
I see you're producing nicely, almost caught up to me in UD points. Only took you two years to catch up since I switched to F@H full time.
Ahh, I miss these forums, got to spend more time reading them.
Wow, I come back to the forums and find that people are wondering who relic is
Looks like we have tons of new guys I have to meet
Hi everyone who doesn't know me
I've been on the team for a while, (although not nearly as long as relic) but I haven't been posting on the...
Great job everyone.
Now we just need to beat the OCAU to 200mil and we'll be rocking.
(I haven't had time to post much lately, but I still lurk occasionally and nothing on earth can cause me to slow down my folding ;) So Hi to everyone I haven't talked to in a while)
Well theoretically, Folding could one day end.
It doesn't target specific diseases one by one, it tries to simulate the folding of different protiens so we can better understand how to stop diseases that involve the misfolding of protiens.
Some day, once we han accurately predict the...
If you know one of the computer people well, try talking to thatn person first. I had the advantage of knowing the cs teachers quite well and also working at the school with the IT department during the summer. It helps a lot if the IT people can trust you.
Whenever I'm getting permission for school or work farms, I always request to install it on one machione first, then a few more, and slowly expand it. It's much less threatening to a admin when he can watch the effects slowly. Once they realize that it's safe and doesn't consume much bandwidth...
I feel your pain. I had the same problem with my first big farm. I got permission to borg machines at my high school (where I also worked during the summer), but is was a pain keeping them all going.
At first I wasn't allowed to install them as services, so I went around to about 50 computers...
It has been gone over already, but I'll just throw in my perspective on borging without permission.
I have gotten permission at a couple previous workplaces to run DC projects, and one thing I noticed is that the thing most holding a lot of IT managers back from F@H is the bad press that the...
Great job marty!
It's awesome to see so many new big contributers. I'm going to have to pull something out of my hat if I want to stay on the top 20 producers list.
I went into one of the open cells along the side with all three turrets.
I put 1 turret down on either side of me, and then held one turret as a combination gun a shield.
As enemies came through the narrow dorr frame, they got completely mowed down. Again, the only thing you have to worry...
I think they intentionally used scenes that they didn't expect to make it into the final game for the demos. That way everything in the game will be new for the player. It would be kinda boring to fight through a part of a gme that you've already seen.
Ok, I'm taking down my server. If you download a the maps and then follow the instructions in the 1st post you can play around a bit with making your own servers.
We'll have to see that the mod community does with this. :)
Get maps here
Then join my server
Enter into the console:
connect 65.95.27.199:27015
I don't know if it will work through my firewall, so post if you can get on or if you can't
(Server shutdown because people can't connect. Please see this thread...
60 isn't that bad. Remember, different motherboards often show the temps ar being too high or low.
Depending on the BIOS version, the NF7-s often shows the processor as 10C hotter than it really is. The thermal probe on my NF7-s shows 69-70C load on my computer, but I don't really worry...
This is definetly one of my most anticipated games. I loved Morrowind, and everything I am hearing about Oblivion makes me think that the designers are making all the right choices to improve on their old formula.
Postcount and maturity are two serperate things. You have more posts than him, but you are the one making yourself look like an immature child who thinks everything is entitled to him.
You want to punish Valve and Gabe, don't buy the game. But stealing the game isn't a protest, it's theft...
The socket A and socket 754 Semprons will likely fold just as fast as the same clock speed of Athlon XPs and Athlon 64s respectively. Cache size isn't really a barrier to folding performance.
The Celerons will also likely run as fast as P4s with the same clock speed, for the same reason...
