Ah, yeah they seem very simliar, the main difference as you mentioned was block size vs file, but disparity detects file size changes (ie: document growing or replacing media with higher def) and adjusts accordingly. I do like that SnapRaid is supported on Linux as well as a few other OS'...
It's a Sharkon Rebel 12, german case, it's hard to find. I found one on ebay for around $120+$20 shipping USD
Thank you :)
The sata-power cables and all other cabling (excess SAS cable, fan power cables and such) are all stuffed on the back side of the hard drive tower somewhat neatly...
Wow, that's awesome lol. I remember it was an issue when they first came out but I'm fairly certain they are better now from what I had read but I really don't NEED one so I didn't spend much time investigating it.
I figure it's still relatively new technology, give it a few years and they...
Thank you!
Thanks! What sort of pics were you looking for and I will try to take them accordingly if I don't have any already. Do you mean what the case looks like ?
I use HD Sentinal, a simple program that monitors all hard disk temperature and basic health so I have notification once...
Thank you! :)
There is, obviously it's a little tighter than a typical 4-to-3 bay adapter but it isn't too bad. I have 5 WD 1 TB Black drives at the bottom that seem to be the only ones I'm concerned about currently, they hover around 38-42 degrees. The rest of them are WD Green drives (2 and...
Here's my beast, just completed the other day. It's currently 16 drives including OS, expandable up to 26 currently. 27TB, 3TB for parity, 24TB of storage space! Running Disparity (see my link for a small build log and explanation of Disparity and it's features)
Thank you to EVERYONE who...
Thanks :)
Disparity is sort of limited to the speed of your OS drive and speed of the parity drive. My OS drive is pretty slow, it's an old 320 Seagate around 40-50 mb/s. The last time I built Parity from scratch, it took around 24 hours for 18TB to be protected. Further updates happen pretty...
Most hardware is 2-3 years old from my old server, this build is simply to expand the drive capacity/ease of access and use:
CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 620
MOBO: Asus M4A79XTD-EVO
RAM: 2GB
CARDS: 2x Supermicro AOC-SAS2LP-MV8
Windows 7 w Remote Desktop access for any maintenance it needs
I am...
Anyone with serious modding experience on the Antec 1200, this question is for you.
I'm looking at tearing down my Antec 1200 and making it into a full fledged server case, I need some help on whether or not this is workable based on the case' structure.
What I have in mind is de-riveting...
Just not crazy on the whole Norco idea/design (even with being able to sit it like a tower, it still ugly as all hell)
The "iCute 18" is a good size but has no cable management space which is a huge need for me.
I've been trying to do something like in the pic I posted but I'm lacking in...
Thanks to everyone who responded, can't wait to see some pics when you have time :D
Supermicro Card
Generally retails for about $100, allows you to connect 8 additional drives beyond what your motherboard slots allow
I know this subject has been brought up several times (and I've looked through ALL of the threads on them).
I've outgrown my Azza case (13 drives, a slightly smaller copy of the Antec 1200) and have spilled over to a 4 disk external enclosure, I'm looking to stay with a full tower as a...
Sorry for reviving an old thead but this is exactly what I'm looking for!
I've run out of room in my server and am wondering if you could provide some info on the metal/method you used to make those rails (and also how it's been working for you since doing it!)
Any additional info you can...
I see what you`re saying, I can definitely see that being a consideration now that I think about it.
I just had a friend mention linux raid to me, would you mind giving me a little bit of info on it or if it would be better for me in my application at all
It looks like we have similar needs...
Hmmm, are you sure that the problem is not only with a x16 video card and having to disable on-board video? I see no reason why there would be an x16 slot if you then had to disable on-board video when you wanted to use it, effectively negative that x16 slot for anything other than video?
I use to be a die hard AMD fan, would not go intel, then I gave them a chance on my gaming rig build and could not be happier with the thing. I think a large part of it is the ASUS mobo I have in it vs gigabyte I had in old AMD systems. Regardless, I don't really care about brand for the build...
Thanks for the reply,
It's simply going to be to host/store everything, so really the parts need to just be able to sustain the activities of raid building/rebuilding(i hope not), and sustaining decent speeds over gigabit to my actual PC
That is a decent idea about taking them externally...
I'll just list the specs of my current system:
Q9550 @ 2.83
8GB ram
XFX ATI 4890 1GB
2 500GB Seagates run Raid 1 split into 150 GB (OS) / 350 GB (Backup)
4 1 TB WD Blacks Raid 5 for storage
I'm switching from software raid to hardware raid (3ware 9650 12port) and will be expanding my...
I've done the googling and now want everyone's opinions, the data stored will be games, movies (divx, dvd, and bluray), tv shows, mp3s, large pictures(8mb+) and then the smaller assorted files that everyone has but doesn't know how to sort. The small files stay put, its more the media that gets...
Thanks, I don't know why I didn't realize that before, I guess because the one time you need a product to say "Card not included" (for the BBU-3); it doesn't!
It's nice to be able to order the cheaper version of something for once lol
There are two different battery backup modules for these device (3ware 9650SE-12ML), bbu-module-3 and bbu-module-4, I can't seem to find anywhere online that explains the differences, both seem to offer the same features/specs. Can someone please explain the differences in the two?
I'm not to sure about the Rapid Storage manager, whenever I go on intels websit and select windows 7, it brings me back to my current version of Matrix ? The only way it will navigate me to Rapid storage is if I say that I have an intel board ?
I figure that the newest update isn't going to...
I'll check out Iometer, the website said it was discontinued in 01, so I'm not sure how that will work on 7 64bit lol
ssdforspeed: I noticed you pointed me to the "Rapid storage technology", from googling I get that this it the new Matrix Storage manager? Will uninstalling Intel Matrix...
It can be anywhere, the 55-60mb/s were writting to a 500gb raid 1 (split for an os drive setup with some backup storage for extra security)
I am currently copying to a removable 2tb green drive using E-sata and only getting 45mb/s (which I have written to at 75mb/s using data off my 500gb...
I know there is much math for the parity calculations, but trust me, my CPU has plenty of steam left in it, see the usage %'s I just posted. People with systems of far lower CPU speeds have no problem obtaining > 100mb/s the ICH9R
Running a Q9550 with 8GB ddr3
During transfers: CPU usage 3-10%, ram is 35%
During idle: CPU usage 1-3%, ram is 22%
Files being transfered are usually large (bluray, truecrypt/large iso, divx movies, tv shows)
TLER is OFF (I've never attempted to turn it ON, as I believe only 2 of my...
Hi all,
I've finally had enough and am unable to figure it out for myself so I'm hoping you all can help.
I am running a Raid 5 setup with 4 WD 1TB Blacks using software raid on ICH9R, when transfering anything (either within the raid or to other drives) it will burst initially at over...
To everyone with 150-250 mb/s reads off their raid 5 setup in HD Tune, what type of transfer speeds are you seeing?
I too get great speed, averaging over 220mb/s in HD Tune (ICH9R, 4 WD 1TB Black drives), however when I try to transfer ANYTHING, large or small files, it bursts initially at over...
