Nintendo's biggest issue is they haven't released a killer app for the console. And saying it only sold 425k isn't bad. How much did 360 or PS3 sell at launch? Wii U needs a combination of casual games that cater to that crowd that bought the Wii, some Nintendo exclusives and a few updates.
