Yeah, thats what I thought guy. Get as mad as you want about it, 4870x2 is slower and just about everyone knows it. there are quite a few games out there that don't care at all about crossifre or sli, it's a well known limitation of both technologies, denying that it exists? Just ignorant. I...
I wouldn't pay much mind to that guy, trying real real hard to justify his quad-fire 4870s. He's in another thread somewhere trying to convince a guy to buy 4870x2 instead of a 5870.
That 285 should not be hitting 105C in furmark, you aren't on the bad news fan doesn't work recalled driver set are you?
The fan should be ramping to 100% before those cards even hit close to 90C
Tile based rendering was awesome for the time, mostly because it allowed power VR cards to perform very agressive hidden surface removal, now hidden surface removal is more or less a part of every modern GPU, so it loses some of it's kick.
It was a very elegant solution to the problem at...
No offense here, but you are getting really defensive over something that you can't really disprove. You are getting emotional over your investment in 4870x2s, you've made many posts regarding how much you love them, and how great you think they are compared to 5870s. The fact you're upset...
Oh yeah the x2 did have 2gb vs the 512 per gpu didn't it.
And why would you quote my post, then double quote lower minimum framerates. It's not like you can deny thats pretty much the biggest failing of the whole last gen double GPU card vs current gen single gpu card.
If the OP is at all...
4870x2 has 512m framebuffer per GPU, it is slower in minimum framerate in about every test I've seen run, the guy was not offbase at all saying it's consistently slower. A pair of well overclocked 4890s with 1 gig will occasionally beat a 5870 in terms of minimum framerate, a 4870x2 may do this...
Lol take that wabewalker.
Maybe this will teach UBI not to invest money in a technology that is now pretty much PROVEN to only screw over paying customers, and leave pirates completely unaffected.
It's not really their fault ya know, after a while all you complete fanboys start to look the same. If you posted something other than OMG NVIDIA AWESOMO-O sometime, might not happen. Alas.
When I was a kid I used to keep the fallout 1 and 2 manuals in my backpack for occasional fun reading. They were super well done, and totally looked like a piece of vault-tec schlock. I lived in california and some creep broke into a friends car and stole my backpack. It was pretty...
Right, so you're a prick, and ATI shouldn't fix the defective GPUs they've been crapping out because you can hack up an xml file to fix it on a temporary basis.
Thats kinda what I thought. People bitch because the PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE. So maybe use your brains next time, clean the dick out...
Because the cards don't run properly at rated speed? What happens if ATI changes the driver profiles and all of a sudden you can't set an overriding 2d clock a couple years down the road? Thats right, what is now just an annoyance becomes a defective card, a defective card you can no longer...
Really? Thats amazing because three people posted in this thread with the 2d idle problems not occuring at all, and with a copious number of replacement video cards, I no longer have the issue at all either.
Pretty amazing that a problem that can be resolved by getting an actual...
No, only the massive number of 5870 and 5970s that don't operate properly at specified 2d clocks out there are doing it actually.
So far I've had:
1 XFX 5870 - green artifacts in aero, green artifacts in 2d mode when at low 2d clocks
2 Diamond 5870 - green artifacts in aero, green artifacts...
I'll take steam over direct 2 drive any time, any day. Mods for games are normally steam frendly, not so much with encrypted d2d .exes
I do however, love impulse more than either, although they seemingly have already lost the battle with steam, so I only buy stardock stuff from it...
I HOPE they send it back to you. So what if the card you bought at specified clocks doesn't overclock. It's not made to overclock, it's made to run at it's rated speed.
If you think you got a stinker, sell it to someone who doesn't overclock and buy another. Don't try and pass it off to...
People bash fermi so bad because it doesn't exist yet, and is terribly late. Say what you like about kinda poor availablity, I saw an asus 5970 on the egg not 10 minutes ago, and my local microcenter had one in stock three days ago when I went for 599.
I wanted fermi, but couldn't get it...
I use a unicomp customizer, which is the modern USB implementation of the IBM model M with it's buckling spring mechanical keys. They(unicomp) custom build them to order.
If a keyboard uses bubble switches or membrane switches with no mechanical key feedback, I pretty much consider it a...
I would definately NOT go with visiontek if you are considering them. I recently had a card fail after a month, and after another month of futile emails and calls to visiontek, I managed to beg a return out of the retailer. Still no reply from visiontek, hope they enjoy eating the card when...
On subject I think having to be datamined to have an implied warranty honored is BULLSHIT.
On the subject of visiontek, I have a 5870 that died after three weeks of use. Countless emails to visiontek have resulted in exactly ZERO reply. Is this garbage typical from them?
I'm pretty much...
while that might help, nobody should have to overclock the card in 2d mode (which does not always work) to get a properly functioning card.
ATI needs to a) fix this or b) replace all the cards with this problem
OP - I had the same crap happen with an XFX 5870, exchanged it at the store for...
I'd totally agree with you if not for the four threads every two days on the Evga forums 'GT250 SLOW PERFORMANCE HEP'
Next it's going to be n00bs crowding up the 'GT300 / 400' branch with 'ZOMG REBRANDED CRAPSTICK BAD PERFORMANCE'
Strikes me as shady. Always has. Wouldn't make a thread...
I've got my preorder of this game locked down. I'm really looking forward to it, it's billed as a spiritual successor to my favorite game ever, master of magic (I still have the 3.5 boxed copy a friend gave me over a decade ago, thanks Nigel), it looks pretty good so far, at least idea wise...
Yeah I put that deadpool wannabe guy on ignore as well. I realized he's just posting to get a reaction out of people. I've thrown enough money at valve and steam at this point in my life that I'm pretty much beyond reproach.
If you have enough titles to fill up a 2560 screen vertically...
I never said 24/7 dumbshit. I'm sure now you don't have any friends who actually even had the balls to enlist, kid. Let me tell you, a copy of civ IV to one of my boys who was going on deployment with nothing but a laptop was like giving him a sack of gold coins. Some of them still have...
They play whatever they want? I know two people currently enlisted who play eve like mad, when they go on deployment they tend to play single player games (LIKE AC2 GASP!?) to kill time. Is there something wrong with your brain?
You must live quite the cloistered life.
What, you think...
I'm really looking forward to this. I'll still frequently put in two day sessions with beyond the sword. Between this and stardock's elemental (master of magic 2?) it's going to be a good year for strategy.
I'm also loving the hex board.
It sounds like you never actually owned a working 5870. Going from gtx260s(3 which I still have) to tri-fire 5870s was one of the more substantial upgrades I've made. I found there were driver problems, but I took time and reported a rather obscure one (eve online had black boxes over items)...
They are so angry because if there is one thing you can do to make a paying customer irate, it's treat them like they've stolen something.
Your ignorance of this simple fact of human behavior suggests your thinking is more in line with a corporate shill for ubisoft, than anyone else's...
You really shouldn't make blanket accusations like calling everyone who doesn't enjoy intrusive drm a pirate. I reformat my computer roughly once every three months due to hardware changes.
I can't even count the number of times I've had to write a bullshit email to EA, that goes something...
Playing through mass effect 1 should almost be required reading for mass effect 2. I dunno, it was wierd, but the games together managed to pull some real honest emotions from me.
The action hero smile at the end of #1, sheps dorky expression reacting to the 'reach vs flexibility'...
No, fuck bullshit copout excuses made to quell second hand gaming. It has nothing to do with pirates. It has a lot to do with ubisoft not wanting us actually owning the games ubisoft sells or using them without thier perpetual say-so.
Don't believe it, take a rational (I KNOW ITS HARD) look...
