You can also go the route of using a USB adapter deal.. Those work quite well.

One of my Essence STX's was a Newegg open box, and its been solid as a rock w/heavy usage on it. Hopefully it stays that way.

Depends what music you listen to. I went w/the Ultrasone Pro 900's and I couldn't be happier... Coupled w/an Asus Essence STX its incredible.

Ya know, I use the OPA2134's some ppl hate (but I also use Ultrasone Pro 900, which works so well w/these) so it depends a lot on what cans or setup you'll be using. I prefer the stock opamp when I use my HTPC's setup of a Carver M200T+Event 20/20 Monitors and a 12W 350W JBL Sub.

Always get the K series. Even if you don't overclock the resale value added is key.

If your PSU is that bad I'd definitely go SSD, its the feasable upgrade.. that or upgrade that PSU and videocard.

You could always do the 20th Aniv pentium as a placeholder CPU. Use it and game your heart out while you save to upgrade to the i7 chip.

Theres no way I'd run that on the PSU.. esp if you plan to OC, and add extras.

I had issues with the 20th aniv pentium. It ran SC2 and Chivalry great, but seemed to hiccup sometimes in other games. I suspect things working in the background knocking it or.. I don't know. This was w/a 4.6Ghz OC on a stock 280X so.. take that for what it is worth.

My major gripe about motherboards now is the power array, lots of cheap crap. You've got to make sure you choose a good board w/solid power delivery above many things. The Z77A is one of those boards. I had the microATX version that couldn't push the chip past 4.2. Now I have the Maximus V Gene...

I'd be checking your thermals on the laptop, because when unplugged it won't load nearly as much as it will plugged and that is probably the issue.
