I did not mess around with friends stuff. But if you are in a guild it will display your character name and your account name in the guild list. It definitely makes it easier to keep track of players in situations when people have multiple alts with different names.

Do you need all the expansions for the HoM rewards or just Eye of the North? I was considering doing that stuff but GW1 plus all the expansions isn't really all that cheap (about $45 on amazon).

I love HL and HL2, but I feel like 3 really needs to push the envelope if it's going to make an impact today. If they suddenly revealed it tomorrow and what I saw didn't excite me as much/more than Bioshock Infinite then I'd be pretty disappointed (which is probably my most anticipated fps).

Funny that's kind of what happened to me as well, except I was actually playing TSW in closed beta until BWE2 and then lost all desire to play it after. Not to insinuate that TSW is a bad game, but I just enjoyed GW2 so much that I kind of don't want to play other MMOs anymore.

It still seems crazy to me to pay $120 to fund this based on the franchise/genre rather than the developer. If this were the old Mechwarrior 2 team or something I could understand, but these devs have no Mechwarrior experience so there's no way to know if they'll do it right.

The less than simple solution is to just make sure there are few skills you'd absolutely never want to use. And if they're going with a tier system I feel like that needs to be their focus to prevent people from feeling like they're just "wasting" skill points like you said.
