    Computer won't POST

Checked the caps, and nothing looks bad. Update: The buzzing sound is actually coming from the power supply. I tried the power supply in another machine, and it worked just fine - no buzzing and it gave power. However, the other system was a meager Duron 700. I then tried the largest backup...

    Computer won't POST

Well my 300W won't even power my Duron system, so that one in particular might even be dead, but I can't tell for sure :p I didn't get a chance to try the system outside of the case last night, but I'll try to do it tonight (I had car problems and didn't get home until late). As it stands...

    Computer won't POST

No it's not coming from the speaker - I unplugged it and it still made the noise. It may be coming from a coil, as there are a few in the area near the processor as well. pic of where the sound seems to be coming from.

    Computer won't POST

Well unfortunately I don't have a spare PSU to swap it with ... all my spares are 300W and less (plus a Dell PSU and a Compaq PSU) I don't think you need a video card for it to at least beep at you...

    Computer won't POST

I doubt it's the RAM. I wish it were, though - it's still covered under warranty. The motherboard was refurbished and only had a 15 day warranty. The PSU was bought nearly 3 years ago from some online site I don't remember. I put Arctic Silver 5 on the CPU a while back, which probably voided the...

    Computer won't POST

But it's still making the buzzing noise even with no RAM installed. Also, even with no RAM installed, you should at least get power and a message saying memory error, right? Well I'm not even getting a video feed....

    Computer won't POST

Well now it stopped turning itself on. In fact, it stopped doing anything altogether when I plug it in. This happened after I left the CMOS battery out for a few minutes. Now, when I plug it in, it makes a bit of a ... buzzing noise, similar to how it sounds when you're close to a power line and...

    Computer won't POST

Hell I tried it without any RAM period - you'd think I'd at least get a video feed. Nada, no change. I tried the PSU in another system (w/o a hard drive) and it powered up as far as it could seemingly normal. But then again, the system I tried is only a Duron 700, not a Barton 2500 - huge...

    Computer won't POST

But it's only a couple months old.... any way to test it?

    Computer won't POST

Tried that. I removed the battery and moved the jumper to and fro to clear it, and still nothing. How could the board go faulty overnight, when it was working PERFECTLY the night before, even during 4+ hours of Morrowind? I've got plenty of airflow so heat wasn't the issue....

    Computer won't POST

Problem: My computer isn't giving any sort of response. I plug in the power cord and everything (automatically) turns on and gets power, but my mobo doesn't POST or beep or anything. I leave my computer on 24/7. Sometime between 1am and 7am the computer shut ITSELF down. It won't boot back...

    Alright.. so I killed svchost

Great WinXP Service Tweaker (I do it manually, haven't tried his "presets" because I'm not *that* trusting) http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm It also describes what each service does, which is why I included the link....

    can these files be deleted?

Those directories are safe to delete *IF* you know you do not want to uninstall the updates. They are temp directories that store the uninstall information of the applicable Hotfix. Deleting this file will cause some uninstallation "not found" issues when you try to uninstall, as the files will...

How to setup Application Server on home PC?

Is there a 3rd party program out there that will do this easily, and allow it to be accessed via the internet? I'm on the go a lot, and there are some programs I would like to be able to access from anywhere without having to install them at every workstation. The programs I'm looking to use are...

XP bluescreens on load after mobo/proc/RAM upgrade

A bit late for an update, but just so everyone curious knows: The repair install worked great, although there were a few problems after the fact (such as Right-clicking my computer and choosing properties brought up an error message concerning a missing file for system restore, and the tab...

XP bluescreens on load after mobo/proc/RAM upgrade

Fixed the LED. I'm guessing it's probably a BIOS setting for the CPU. I'll search around the forums, but if someone beats me to the answer, don't hesitate to post.

XP bluescreens on load after mobo/proc/RAM upgrade

Well the repair worked. I can at least load Windows and log in and such, although I'm getting a few errors here and there about System Restore (I had it disabled before the repair, this could be the problem) Now, if only I could figure out why: 1.) My 1.8 ghz proc is only registering as...

XP bluescreens on load after mobo/proc/RAM upgrade

Old specs were a Chaintech 7AIA mobo, Duron 700, and 256MB of PC100 RAM. Big upgrade, isn't it? Only at least DOUBLE everything :p Unfortunately, I didn't backup anything. I was excited and trigger happy with my new hardware, and forgot totally about it. It wasn't until I was putting in the...

XP bluescreens on load after mobo/proc/RAM upgrade

But even if I'd have to reinstall, would the process of NOT doing so prevent me from booting whatsoever? I mean, it bluescreens as soon as it brings up the loading screen, not even a complete second into it. Grrrrr....

XP bluescreens on load after mobo/proc/RAM upgrade

Will not start in safe mode, nor even in "safe mode with command prompt". I really don't want to have to reinstall Windows because I haven't backed up in a while, although I could always throw the HD into the computer I'm using now and transfer temporarily, but that'd take a while and if...

XP bluescreens on load after mobo/proc/RAM upgrade

I just received my new hardware today. I've got it all installed and everything, however, I'm unable to load XP. My mobo passes POST no problem, even successfully does the extensive RAM test (as in disabled quick boot). It's a very generic message, and on the BSoD it says: Items installed...
