Good thread with some fantastic responses. I was wondering if my i7 975 extreme was outdated. My wife wants to get into gaming and I am thinking of giving her my system. Here's is what I've learned from reading this thread.
1. Not one person said today's games are so intense that their...
I know that there aren't that many 3D titles currently available, but my grandkids are especially keen to those movies.
So my questions are:
1) Would Nvidia's GT430 playback the current Blu-ray 3D movie format or is it a Nvidia only, proprietary type of 3D symulation system?
2) If...
I'm just about done building my first HTPC. I got some great deals so it turned out a little higher in performance than what I intended. Since I've gone this far down the road, I'm wondering if I should upgrade the video card. I have an MSI ATI Radeon HD5450 and the picture is pretty good...
That's the problem with bullshit engineering. Halfway tight = halfway loose. There's no way in hell will I ever install their product on my two working 5970's. I'm the Service Manager (21 years) for an aviation equipment manufacturing company and I know good engineering. There's no way in...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I get the impression that they've silently removed th Xtreme 5970 from sales. It's no longer listed on their webshop (http://www.arctic-cooling.com/webshop/main.php?cPath=2,) and while listed on their website (...
I don't see the Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme 5970 on their website. Have they discontinued the product? All I see is the Xtreme 5870, GTX Pro, 4870X2, the 2900 and Twin Turbo.

No, they've lost more than just a customer. I have $1500 invested in my two 5970s. Think I'm going to put my cards at risk? As long as I don't use their product, there's no chance that I'll be posting how my DVI failed. IN OTHER WORDS, BOTH MY CARDS ARE SAFE IF I DON'T USE THEIR PRODUCT.
Cschill1290, Took your suggestion and went back to 10.5. FPS jumped back up to 135 in the game. Lesson learned, once again.... If it aint broke, don't fix it. Thanks!
Okay I'm stumped. FPS dropped to 31 in BFBC2 and I'm running 5970 CrossFireX. Anyone else having this problem? Just want to check before I go back to 10.5.
In an earlier part of my life, I've worked on jet engines, diesel and gasoline engines. I've worked on hydraulic, pneumatic and for the last 20 years computers. I've never been instructed by any reputable company to tighten a device using an eyeball or 50% feel tight measurement. If their...
I"m running two Sapphire 5970 in CrossfireX with a BFG GTX285 as my dedicated PhysX card. GenL created a patch that's easy to use. vjsmoke posted in this forum a very useful set of instructions "How to Activate Hardware PhysX to play with an ATI Video Card " . Here's the link...
The dealership sells me a part and says, oh yeah, just plug it right in. You go home, plug it right in, and the car still doesn't run. Yeah, after three hours, I can see the fun in that! I've been there, done that. At some point in time, I'd like to drive the fuckin car, not work on it. I...
Bose directs the sound eminating from the rear side of the speaker, then by porting it via a separate path, allowing it to disperse, in phase with the sound produced by the front surface of the speaker. I purchased Bose speakers before they were a household name, back in 1975. There are...
Please, don't talk to me about qulibility. This entire industry trumps "Plug & Play", yet there's not one serious computer gamer in this forum that hasn't spent hours, hours and more hours trying to get his\her brand new "Plug & Play" Gizmo to play nice with his working computer. Not one...
Hard's review is just one opinion. There are other reviews, if you care to look. You'll see that that others have a totally different opinion about these headphones. As for setting these things up, yeah, I made some adjustments, which took me less than 3 minutes. Hell, I'm running Crossfire 3...
Hey man, by the world's account, I'm one of those "fools" who wasted his money on these Psyko's. They don't suck, and I'm not regurgitating something I've read. I own them and use them as my primary gaming headset.
I'm not saying they're the best in the world, I haven't personally tested...
The amplifier has bass control which they recommend turning down to improve directionality. People spend hours on hours tweaking an entire system to gain a few meaningless fps, but can't spend a few minutes to digest the dynamics behind the OEM's recommendations and attempt to tweak these...
Ooch! What an awful review. The product is not as bad as stated. Yes, I too could not believe how bad the sound was when I first place them on my head. But I followed the directions and turned "OFF" all sound enhancements and that made the world of difference. I then turned on the EQ and...
How good is the directional sound in BFBC2? Anyone using the Psyko Audio headphones? Mine are about to arrive this weekend and I'm wondering if BFBC2 is the type of game that would show how good these phone are?
I suggest you run Drive Sweeper to clean all the old ATI files from your registry. I've been running 5 GPUs, Quad-Fire HD5970 and a GTX285 for PhysX and using Thermaltake's 1200w PS with no problems for 2 months. Like others suggested just make sure each 5970 is on it's own buss.
You can now "use the ATI Video Converto to convvert video files on your computer into a format more suitable for video editing or viewing on a portable media player." That's a direct quote from ATI's CCC 10.5 Video Converter menu. Drag & Drop Video Conversion.
"Your system includes a...
Got everything up and running this evening. ATI's CCC and nVidia's Control Panel are up and running; with PhysX enabled. FluidMark verifies it's running in hardware mode. I dumped nVidia's latest driver 197.13 and went back to 196.21. I don't know if nVidia has done anything to block GenL's...
I have both CCC and Nv's control panel opening. Even have PhysX enabled. Guess what, no PhysX. FluidMark says I'm running in software mode. System, with PhysX was running great until I installed Cat. 10.3 and Nv's latest driver (197.13). Maybe this combo doesn't work. Is anyone using...
Okay, this is weird. I Installed Cat 10.3 today and CCC wouldn't open. The error message says "ATI Catalyst Control Center cannot be started because the currently active GPU is not supported." However, when I go into Nvidia's control panel and disable PhysX, ATI's CCC opens.
I've...
Geez Guys.... I'm impressed by both. I'm old enough to remember how impressed I was when Pong came out. Now that's old. We didn't split hairs about game graphics back then. LOL!
My 2nd 5970 is on way and I haven't seen too many threads talking about problems with the 5970 in Crossfire. Was hoping a few of you who have this setup could share your experiences both pos and neg. I'll be running 5970 in Crossfire with a GTX285 for PhysX. Maybe I could avoid some of the...
My Sapphire has a slight rattle. I can only hear it when the case is open, even then it's just bearly audible. I'm monitoring it; if it gets worse, I'll RMA it back to OEM.
Message to Nv.... The GTX card I got last week was purchased only because GenL provided a hack which allowed PhysX to run with my Sapphire HD5970. Your moronic decision to block out the competition would have killed any reason for me to purchase that GTX 285 and would have rendered thousands...
I was able to get PhysX running around 2 AM. I had some bios issues which was causing my system to crash. Heart felt thanks to you guys for your input. I'll post some benchmarks when I get a chance. Today's dedicated to #2 son and getting his apartment setup. Thanks again!!!
Okay, my first attempt to enable PhysX was a bust. I used ATI 8.663.1_Beta 5, Nv's 195.62 and PhysX-mod-1.2. In fact, my system crashed and rebooted as I'm typing this on my workstation. Hey gerardfraser! What files are you using since I'm trying to duplicate your setup?
From what I've been able to gather, the 8800 does a decent job and the GTX 275 does even better. I've read "more" is better. Granted, we're not talking major improvements in game play, afterall, PhysX only adds subtleties to the game. But it also depends on who you are. I'm an OverKill kind of...
1st Place: Without question the Voodoo 2 Sli had the biggest impression. I remember my kids gathering around the computer watching Unreal. The monster jumping out in the hallway scared them half to death.
2nd Place: ATI 9800 was a great all around card that extended speed and smooth...
