Here's a snippet from Kyle's rant:
If you don't want game developers telling you how you can and cannot use your hardware, don't buy its games. Hi-Rez Studios is singling out Eyefinity and other multi-display users and not allowing us guys to use the enthusiast computer hardware that we...
Lulz, I've been waiting for somebody to point at my "n00b" status. Nice try, buddy
The [H] isn't a soap box. If Kyle doesn't want to buy the game, he doesn't need to buy it. He's not asking people to make their own decisions, he's expecting people to fall in line with his way of...
They're not blocking high-res, they're blocking FOV hacks. We might not all necesarily agree that this will increase game balance, but it is a valid point, and it's the developers' prerogative. Don't you see the inconsistency here? Kyle is telling people to not buy this game, not because it's a...
I had to suppress a chuckle when I read Kyle's rant.
Seriously, Kyle, don't you think that most people are mature enough to make their own purchasing decisions?
I can understand that you are annoyed that your shiny toys aren't fully supported by this game, and that you disagree about the...
Hey Kyle, that red X in the top right corner is looking mighty tempting! Time to upgrade the servers!
(For added loyalty bonus brownie points, you can ship all the old shit to my home address. PM sent) :D
I been using computers for over 25 years. My dick hasn't fallen off, yet.
Does Asus offer a homeopathic herbal sack along with the motherboard as well? One must take all necessary precautions, ya know!
Er... do you know what a zero-sum game is? This is one example.
Any company who has to fork out cash in a settlement, has to recoup that loss somehow. I'll give you three guesses who foots the bill at the end of the day?
All that money ends up lining the pockets of the patent troll...
I received a new Thinkpad T500 at work the other day, and I'm well pleased with it. Although, I'm pretty sure it won't take the abuse my arse would dish out if I sat on it :D
Ohhhh I see what you mean. Just like the normal square texture would have diagonal lines on it, so would the height map!
CHA-CHING! That penny made a loud noise as it dropped! :o
<Off-topic pedantry>
"Wherefor art thou" doesn't mean "Where are you". C'mawn guys, it makes you look like dumb cowboys when you get your lit references wrong. ;)
</Off-topic pedantry>
I know that - what I want to know is how you make a spiral heightmap? Looking at the non-tess wireframe, the rope hasn't been modelled in a spiral fashion in any way.
How does it get from before to after using a hightmap? Something seems fishy if you ask me, and I'm not convinced.
ETA...
The point of this thread is to find out whether a fast i7 is a worthwhile upgrade over, say, a fast(ish) Q6600. It's not about the technical merits of either processor, so please don't veer the thread in that direction.
The idea being that the extra speed is only really felt when most of your...
20% of 2 hours is 24 minutes. It does add up, but only 6.6% overall.
Maybe some of the guys who are heavily into 3D modelling could give some indication of their usage patterns.
I think I'm going to start a separate thread.
This. I merely load up an OC profile from the BIOS when I know I'm going to be playing Crysis or something similarly demanding, then clock it back when I'm done.
I must admit to being a little bit confused. (It happens often, though (me being confused, not admitting to it)) :p
It's the rope that did me in. Lemme explain.
ATi has given us Truform since at least the Radeon 8500 days (I remember my 8500 had the "dolphin" truform demo). How is this...
Because it's not necessary on a board with stock clocks.
One could also argue that XFX "pretend" to offer oc-friendly equipment but at the end of the day it's in their own financial interest to circumvent overclocking in non-obvious ways.
Well... I tend to agree with your libertarian-ish stance. The point I'm making is that control is necessary whenever you have an aspect of the system that is beyond your control, for example, crackers and fraudsters.
You'd be the first to scream "why didn't you have any processes in place"...
L0LOMFGZ I get 2000 framez in ph0t0shpzorz!
The upgrade isn't worth it if you're interested in enhanced productivity. An SSD would probably make more sense. A faster video card would make more sense for gaming. Even the Phenoms are fine for gaming.
People tend to think "Hey, the i7 is like 20%...
I've had a run of bum P5Q boards, and I can't say I'm pleased with the brand's quality of late. To be fair though, I suspect this is more a reflection of our local suppliers.
How does this go against their design approach? Intel did this with double-die CPUs since the Pentium D. They don't need to change their fab strategy at all... all that's needed is a fabrication change and board adaptation, and the single-silicon parts soldier on unchanged.
