i see. well my whole point of splitting the vmdk file is so I can more effectively move it to ESXi. I tried moving this large 650GB file via Veeam and one little hiccup in my network connection it all goes poop.

as you can see I ran the command:
vmware-vdiskmanager.exe -r "D:\VDIs\Win2k8 Media Server-mediaFiles.vmdk" -t 1 "D:\VDIs\Win2k8mediaSvr-mediaFiles.vmdk"
it completed but created:
Win2k8mediaSvr-mediaFiles.vmdk - a few KB...
used the vmware-vdiskmanagement command to create the split disk, however it did the exact same thing as in it created:
Win2k8-Media-Server-mediaFiles.vmdk - a few KB
Win2k8-Media-Server-mediaFiles-s001.vmdk - 650GB
im not sure why its doing this?
Hello I have a workstation 10 VM called Win2k8 Media Server. It has 3 vmdk files:
Win2k8-Media-Server.vmdk -- 20GB, contains guest OS
Win2k8-Media-Server-mediaFiles.vmdk -- 6kb

im in the process of setting up a esxi whitebox server to run a VM for plex (to stream to my rokus) and to run to a thin client. virtualized gaming sounds like a great idea, though as someone else pointed out...
Hello I am in an undergrad research program and in my professors lab we're testing different GPU virtualization setups.

My current setup:
ESXi Server:
CPU: Intel Core i3-3220 Ivy Bridge 3.3GHz LGA 1155 55W Dual-Core

alternatively, is there a way to fix this vmdk file on the esxi to get it working with esxi? or am i screwed?

I didnt realize at the time that vmware workstation and esxi use two different .vmdk formats.
im cloning it to "convert" it to a esxi compatible vmdk.
