Main culprit would be GPU. As the above poster said, try to swap it with another and see if that fixes it. Also, did you upgraded your drivers before it started acting up? Maybe you might want to roll them back, see if that fixes it if that's the case.

If you have anything OC'ed then revert it to stock. BIOS is either motherboard, CPU or RAM. Start replacing those :/

When you are comparing the MHZ, you should look into timings. Actual size has nothing to do with performance, unless all it's occupied, at which point the HDD is used to swap files.

RAM slots are not backwards compatible.

Corsair. I have 1 and its rock solid. Most of their units, if not all, have 1 V12 rail, which is what you should look for.

2GB is plenty, at least for a few more years
