    34" 21:9 UltraWide Displays (3440x1440) - LG UM95/UM65 & Dell U3415W

What's the deal with the constant screen shutting off and LOUD popping noises when DP 1.2 is enabled? If I'm using single screen, no chaining do I need DP 1.2 or can I stick with DP 1.1 for 60Hz?

X-Star 27" : Fixable BLB.. or IPS (PLS) Glow?

The lighter coloring at the corners looks like glow. The split lighting in the middle of the top of the frame looks like BLB. You could try taking apart the bezel and internal panel assembly and putting some electrical tape around the inner frame to reduce light leak.

FYI on the true10. I received mine in 4 days from AccessoriesWhole. 3 Stuck pixels (purple) that I am trying to fix with JScreenFix. If anyone has a better suggestion, please let me know. No backlight bleed, which I guess is nice. More importantly, frame skipping at all refresh rates above...

    EyeInfinity or No

I've had Nvidia surround for going on nearly 3 years now I think, started when it first came out on 2 480's. I recommend either getting a 120 hz 16:9 1440p monitor, or one of the new 34'' 21:9 monitors 1440p coming out soon. Honestly, the far periphery of triple-wide landscape is not...

    Crucial M4 - 256GB, $199.99 FS

Confirmed hardware in the newly released ODAC

I don't think anyone is going to say that you 100% must listen to all music 100% identical to the source. What he's saying is he prefers 100% reproduction, which is a common preference. I think what most will agree with instead is that trying to modify the source using expensive hardware that...

Confirmed hardware in the newly released ODAC

While this may be true, trying to modify hardware to your specific preference would cost a fortune, resulting in major profit for snake oil salesmen of various shitty, but high priced amps. What NwAvguy and a lot of people on here are arguing is that we should get our hardware as transparent as...

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 Video Card Review @ [H]

Confirmed hardware in the newly released ODAC

Most audio reviews are a joke. They talk about "speed" "warmth" and other subjective and weird attributes for "good sound" that I just can't take seriously. That's why I applaud NwAvguy's no-bullshit attitude toward audio. I think the fallacy that analog components cannot be differentiated...

Torn between two sound cards and is the e17 my best choice?

E17 will be the most transparent and provide the lowest noise. If you want virtual surround emulation, I would keep the Xonar DG and E17. You could use the Xonar DG when you want surround emulation like dolby headphones and use the E17 when you want the best music quality.

    Sound Blaster Recon3D Fatal1ty Sound Card Review @ [H]

From personal experience there's nothing inherently wrong with Creative's hardware mostly, though they may be a bit overpriced. The problem is software, and even though they've cleaned it up a bit I'm afraid of repeating bad experiences. These days for music/movie buffs a lot of users will...

My Titanium HD is buzzing... why?

Try setting your audio bit-rate in windows or creative drivers to 16bit/44.1khz and see if that helps (if it is happening during play). If simply plugging in causes the sound issue, I would look into trying a different PSU as it may be a ground problem.

    Denon Dx000 Officially Discontinued

"Official replacement" They have several new models all the way down to $250. It would be a sad day indeed if they compromised on quality to get "cheaper" ($250 is cheap for Denon now I guess?) models out and make more profit.

    HOT: Monoprice 8320 only $5.98!

http://www.jdslabs.com/item.php?fetchitem=39 WARNING on this: this is for the PCB that will fit inside an O2 enclosure. Currently it is the only way to pre-order an ODAC AFAIK. However, you should wait and see as they will very soon update their store page with the fully completed ODAC...

Confirmed hardware in the newly released ODAC

I'm definitely getting an ODA with the ODAC installed. In my opinion you could spend thousands on tube amps and never really stop pursuing all kinds of distorted sounds. Or, you could get the ODA/ODAC+O2 and call it a day, spending money instead of other things (like getting more headphones)...

    DAC Recommendation for $100-200

JDSlabs currently sells the O2 which is a headphone amplifier. The ODAC is a transparent DAC designed by Nwavguy. JDSlabs will offer it standalone soonish (Mid-late May as soon as the Canadian company sourcing the boards gets volume), OR together in a box with the O2 amp. If you already have...

$1,300 For A Special Edition Video Game?

The trend of $1000+ (Wouldn't put it passed devs to make a $10,000+ tier) is actually really interesting. If you look at Kickstarter, a lot of popular games have $1000, $5000, $10,000 tiers and they sell out FAST.

    New Asus ROG sound card

Hmm. The Phoebus also has noise cancelling mics? Could be useful for someone with a high end set of headphones who wants to game. Asus going about this very cleverly in terms of their target market with the high end gear.

    SB recon

Actually, AFAIK the Asus cards (Essence ST/STX even) have high-ish output impedance that can be noisy at low volumes for certain headphones.
  38. T

    Sound card needed these days?

A good external DAC or audiophile SC like the Xonar Essence STX can provide low background noise and good conversion. If you have revealing cans such as the HD-650 they will be a definite upgrade over the onboard. A good DAC will depend on the bit-rate of your source and how much you are...
