i played rage ( a few hours, boring pos) at full HD and at 1280x720 + AA with my U2711 and i greatly preferred the overall look at 720p + AA ( you have to consider that rage textures and geometry are ass btw) somehow if was more cohesive...

i like that my XFX 6200 ( AGP) is still working strong, ( 34c IDLE!) before that i had a powercoolor and it lasted 2 months.

The DELL exhibits a strong "sparkle" effect. There is no grain, no sparkle in my unit. nada Even if i move the display around. maybe it has to do with your calibration settings, or maybe you were using excessive brightness levels ( or you have waay to much lights in your room) my room...
