Hello! My beloved PC (specs in sig) is facing some existential issues and I'm concerned--any help is appreciated. Recently, I gently moved the case about 6 feet along a carpet to accommodate a guest, then left for a long weekend on some much needed R&R. The computer lives in my basement, which...
Hello -- having just returned from 2 weeks away, I was alarmed when my build wouldn't boot upon my return. Nothing at all when I push the power button--no fans, beeps, nothing.
I removed the PSU (1 year old Seasonic SS-660XP) and it failed the paperclip test; I figured the unit went bad or...
Sigh. I've finished a brand new x99 rig, blissfully anticipating the 4.2-5 OC that seems so commonplace. One frustrating afternoon later and I have nothing to show for it - even modest 200-300mhz OCs are failing after an hour of stressing. Anything above that fails within 5 minutes in Intel...
So, built a new PC yesterday. i7 5820k, ASRock Extreme4, MSI 390, 8 db Corsair Vengeance, several SSDs, and a Season SS-660XP2 PSU.
Build went fine; installed Windows 10, played around with some of the quick overclocking settings, formatted my drives. But this evening I was experimenting with...
Seasonic SS-660XP2, $99 on sale, $79.99 after rebate. Available at Newegg. Here's Jonny's review. [H]ardOCP called it "quite possibly the best PSU we have ever reviewed."
Edit: Alive again
My current monitor just ate the dust and I'm due for an upgrade. I'll likely be building a computer from scratch in the coming 6 months so can upgrade my GPU as needed (currently running a 7850). Primary use will be gaming (Fallout 4....).
Thoughts? I'm not particularly sensitive to things like...
Hi - posting this on behalf of a friend. If possible we'd love to assemble it this weekend - I live near a Microcenter.
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming and game development using Unity, Blender, Adobe CS.
2) What's your budget? Are tax...
Link, comes with Far Cry 3 as well. This is the XFX 1 GB version.
Not a bad deal - I'm waiting for a Black Friday deal on the 2 gb, but this is pretty good if it's the card you want.
My Thinkpad x200's drive died today (...) and I need a replacement. Suggestions? It needn't be particularly large or fast, just reliable and affordable (<$100, the cheaper the better). I'll probably install Ubuntu on it.
Greetings to my favorite hardware forum. A good buddy has asked for help constructing a budget build, details below.... thanks!
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Doctoral thesis + TF2 and Portal 2 breaks.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping...
Hi all -
I posted this in the mobo subforum but really didn't get the answers I was looking for. Perhaps ya'll can help?
Also, for the curious, those parts were all inherited, so it's not as though he's building from scratch and/or buying anything above. He just needs a decent mobo...
Hi everyone -
I'm posting on behalf of a friend, who needs a mobo to match the parts below. It doesn't need to be fancy - I think at this point, price and reliability are his two major criteria. Thoughts?

End of the year sale at http://www.designbyhumans.com. For the uninitiated, they sell weird/indie/retro/artsy t-shirts, some of which are pretty awesome.
What with sweltering summer temps here in NY I'm looking for a new cooler. Rig is in sig, and, as the thread's title suggests, I'd like to keep it under 60$...
I'm considering the Venomous X for 58.64 shipped.
Thoughts?
1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Adobe Suite, ARC GIS, Rhino, CAD: some gaming (TF2, MW2): some video editing.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
$1200-2000, all inclusive. Cheaper is better.
3) Where do you live?
Ithaca, NY (eg...
Howdy -
I'm sick of windows scanning all the partitions on a 1 tb external I use for backup. I only backup to one of the partitions: can I configure things such that windows foregoes scanning all three partitions on the drive, and only does so on one? It would help speed things up.
Yo-
In a moment of fleeting clear-sightedness yesterday, I realized that I should probably possess an external hard drive for backing up the 700 gigs or so of data I have stored on my current drive. Thing is, I would also like to upgrade my current drive: it's a 1 terabyte WD Caviar Green, and...
I'm looking for a laptop mouse. Has anybody had any good/bad experiences with any one particular model or brand? I'm not going to be gaming and want only a reliable and well-made portable mouse, preferably wireless.
Thoughts?

I'm thinking of upgrading from my Saitek Eclipse and am considering this abs mechanical keyboard. My girlfriend has it and I love it.
Can anybody recommend a better product at that price point (~50$)? I like mechanical switches...
thanks
Hello!
I'm building a work computer for a friend (specs below), but it won''t boot past the "verifying DMI pool data screen." After some experimenting, I found that by removing the hard drive all was well, until, of course, I needed a hard drive to install the OS (XP32).
After posting...
