Been thinking of a GPU upgrade for a little while now, and have more or less decided to take the plunge to the 670 or 680 from my single 5870. My question is, I run a Asus P6X58D mobo which only has PCIe 2.0 slots, any concerns there or are the 2 cards in question ok with this mobo? Also...
It does seem like I would need to move to at least a 580 (on the nvidia side of things) to get a significant bump at my current res. Would I need to worry about being CPU bottle-necked if I moved to a 580 or 680? I am running an i7 930 at 3.4Ghz.
Thanks for the offer but already crossfired initially with 2 5870's on my early build and didn't care for it. Ended up selling the second 5870 and just keeping 1.
Wow, thanks for all the excellent advice everyone. Reminds me why I used to spend a lot of time on here and why i'm going to again! Appreciate all your replies.
Posting in the general forum too since it's kind of a general GPU question and i'm not tied to a brand or architecture.
Hello
Haven't really been keeping up to date with all the latest GPU offerings from AMD or Nvidia for that matter in the past year or so. Been running a single 1GB 5870...
Hello
Haven't really been keeping up to date with all the latest GPU offerings from AMD or Nvidia for that matter in the past year or so. Been running a single 1GB 5870 in my PC for 2 years without too many issues. Curious - if I were to upgrade today or in the near future, what would be the...
Thanks for the updates, hardly a glowing recommendation of this new model. I had been considering it to replace my wrt54gsv2...think i'll wait for the WNDR3800 now.
Would you say it's worth replacing a functioning WRT54GSv2 for this? I've been using my WRT54GSv2 (running Tomato) for about 5 years now with very few issues and am kind of reluctant to replace it. Then again, been waiting for a nice piece of SOHO hardware with plenty of RAM and fast(er) CPU...
Awesome, thank you all for the replies, you saved me time and money, much appreciated! That being the case then...is there a single GPU out there that would significantly improve my gaming and overall experience in my budget? I would assume the GTX 580 would but it's a little rich for my blood...
Given my system (in sig) what type of gains could I expect to reasonably (FPS, driver stability, thermals) see moving from a single 5870 to a single 6950? I've just recently decided to move away from Crossfire to the best single GPU solution I can currently afford. My budget if I do replace my...

Took the plunge to 10.10 after 3 months of trouble-free gaming on Catalyst 10.4. Installed directly from Steam (mistake?) and all seemed fine initially. Fired up my shiny new Fifa 11 game and played for about an hour before my entire PC locked up mid-game. All I could do was hard power down but...
Has anyone made the jump to 10.10 from a much earlier revision and can comment on how stable or otherwise the move has been? i've been running 10.4 for around 5 months and it's been pretty solid, but thinking it might be time to update. Also, is it necessary to get the 10.10a hotfix installed on...
Hi Bizzmeister - great videos, much appreciated...real quick unrelated question...I noticed you replaced the side fan on the HAF932 with 3 120mm fans...was wondering if you've noticed much difference in temps? I have the same case and had been considering a similar change. Sorry for the thread...
I hit on basically the same problem. I hadn't played the game in a couple of weeks, when I fired it up, had to update the game files. After that, playing the Snow Blind level, audio cut right out. I would exit to the game menus and the sound came back, go back to game, no audio. Thought it was...
another vote for AVA Direct if you're going the route of having it built for you. Used them in the past, excellent customer service and not as expensive as others either.
they're on the AMD site, just need to look a bit closer. Here's a link:

Looks like AMD were quickly made aware and are making available a profile update for BFBC2 that will resolve this issue for Catalyst 10.6. May already be available on their site..
Same here...I saw the little black squares during the snowy levels early on in BFBC2 and noticed temps close to 90 with crossfired 5870's. Got temps under control (low 70's for hottest card) and didn't notice it anymore. 82c *should* be ok but try lowering into the 70's and see how it looks.
@dandragonrage and drescherjm...Would this be of the type you are talking about?

To those saying I don't need a 1000W PSU, not yet it's true but I got one as I planned to tri-fire later and figured might as well have the beefy PSU to start.
I moved the monitor off and the noise occurred as soon as I loaded and started BFBC2 (basically pretty much as soon as my slave 5870...
I didn't try that yet, will do so tonight, thanks. I never really considered the UPS to be a "weak" link when putting the machine together, just now realizing it's only rated to about 450w which is really lame.
Thanks for the replies! I will trying take the NEC off of the UPS first to see if that helps. If not, i'll look into those models suggested. Thanks again.
