    NEC 4K and EA275UHD discussion

Art, I've got a problem where this monitor will occasionally not wake from standby. The capacitive buttons do not work and a hard computer reset does not wake the monitor. The power plug must be pulled and reinserted. I was able to reproduce it in Linux and Windows using a GTX 960.

NCX, After all these years, when has AG coating caused a real issue? Even the roughest IPS coatings were good enough considering the PPI. It's so down on the list of important factors for a monitor. I'll never understand your fixation with AG.

    CCFL or LED 2015

Backlight aging is a case by case thing. My CCFL c-PVA monitor is rated for 50K hours and the white point has barely budged an inch over 11K hours. LED aging is also very dependent on their operating temperature but as for colour shift in different designs, I don't know too much. A lot...

    Panel manufacturing question

Precision and accuracy of the contrast measurements. Some manufacturers in the past have not necessarily used the full range of the LCD panel. An example would be where the OSD brightness setting clamps the LCD to dim the screen, rather than the backlight. The main difference between products...

    Panel manufacturing question

Samsung display, LGD, AUO and CMO produce most monitor panels. BenQ is an AUO brand. LGD is still on top for performance models. Panels have an integrated backlight and may or may not come with a backlight controller. The native white point determines the contrast ratio in addition to panel...

    VA or MVA monitor 24"- 27" with high resolution,high dpi 1440p or 4k ???

It isn't strange to me. I've used a PVA monitor for years. Viewing it from under a metre produces a stereoscopic effect on mid tones. LGD simply won and consequently Samsung Display and AUO followed suit.

Because MVA can be called on to the job but in the end it is kind of iffy.

There's absolutely nothing stopping a reasonably priced 23" 1080p part coming out by LGD. As always I have to restate the importance of efficiency in determining what roles the product can be selected to perform.

More weirdness from dell http://www.prad.de/new/monitore/test/2015/test-dell-u2715h-teil8.html Sometimes they get it spot on and deliver on their claims, but in a number of instances the "factory calibration" is just wild.

Absolutely. 4k-monitor.ru shows it well with the P2715Q. The uniformity does nothing and the sheet says the monitor is 99% uniform in brightness.

Then you'll take a serious hit in contrast by going with IPS or lose image stability by viewing an MVA matrix from within a metre. I've done this. Now that 15EL1500 is discontinued, you'll have to go with a telly or DSD to justify spending over a grand to watch video.

I have a few questions for which I would be grateful for Art's help: The panel used in the EA275UHD is probably going to be sRGB with overcoverage. Will the sRGB mode correct this, or is this model considered sRGB native where no gamut correction is applied? What can Spectraview do for...

    OLED Computer Monitors?

The small ones are LTPS and they won't economically go above tablet size. The big plants are IGZO and these can do any size economically. If OLED becomes cheaper than LCD, then they will simply replace most of monitor LCD products. Another issue is the duty of monitors. As lifetime degrades...

    OLED Computer Monitors?

There are many causes of colour shift in LCDs but the primary one is the anisotropic liquid crystal. OLED displays use a polarizer to absorb UV and enhance contrast. In OLED displays, the light refracts through several different material layers and will be totally internally reflected after a...

    OLED Computer Monitors?

Cost parity is a requirement for computer monitors, but the link is referring to LTPS mobile panels. For 15 inches and above you need to use oxide TFT which is used for the OLED TV sets. Another barrier is achieving a power efficiency that will draw sufficiently little current to avoid burn-in...

    TV panels

Hi 10e. It's nice to once again read your reply. All we need now is albovin back. :D Some TVs do crush, with a measurable spike in the gamma value at low levels. It doesn't seem to be common after 2010. Can the same be said for recent MVA monitors?

    TV panels

Sharp and Sony will both use implementations of MVA. In addition to optimal cell design, compensation films are used to improve colour shift. VA products having black crush as an absolute is a myth. I believe it is a result of poorly correcting the native voltage/transmittance characteristic of...

Hi MonarchX, You should use the standard perpendicular viewing direction in the center of the screen. You can view the IDMS for further guidance. There is no mitigation for MVA issues aside from sitting further away.
