Just finished a small remodel on my office (new paint, laminate flooring, stained the desk and de-cluttered). Then I treated myself to a Crossover 404k monitor to replace the 28" Hanns-G (shown on the right). What a massive change. I think I'll stick with this setup for awhile.
Just got my cable extensions stitched and the new build is complete.....for now. Probably going to sleeve the various other cables in the future. Build is in my sig.
Thanks guys. I went off of the reviews on Newegg and it bit me:) I agree on a quality PSU. I've replaced too many in various people's PC's to know why cheap means cheap. I will certainly upgrade that. Do you think going to a 970 along with the better PSU is a good move or stay with the 290? I'm...

Nobody has mentioned Chrome Remote Desktop? Free and works really well on anything from desktops to phones. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/chrome-remote-desktop/gbchcmhmhahfdphkhkmpfmihenigjmpp?hl=en
I just upgraded from a C2D E6750 to a Xeon E5440 on a P5NE-SLI using a 771-775 adapter. I flashed to a modded BIOS (not sure if it was necessary) and it's working great. Haven't tried it in a game yet, but I picked up quite a bit of performance in LuxRender. I use it as a slave and the shorter...
Wouldn't multitasking and power using be the point of having a quad core phone with 2gb ram etc? Regular schmos could get by with much less than an S4.
I have an S4, rooted and running Synergy's ROM and it's been great. It is a TW based rom because I actually like a fair amount of the Samsung...
The answer was posted already. Very few modems are GbE. You are hooked directly up to a 100mbit modem. Therefore your link speed will be 100mbit. You brother has a switch he is hooked into which is 1000mbit (aka GbE). This only benefits him if there are other GbE devices hooked into the same...
Ditto on Untangle. It was my first venture into a freeware router distro and it has been a good experience. Running it on an P4 with 768mb of ram and it seems to run fine. Have it in an Exchange server environment with 7 users and it has replaced their Sonicwall and a few services they were...
They have a pile of PC's that have been replaced and I will be getting it up and running with this and hopefully in the nearer future I can persuade them to replace with a lighter weight machine. Will I be able to save a config file for any of these which could be used to get a new machine up...
I don't need any file services as there is a SBS and a fileserver handling the rest of the duties. Is there one over another that is better as far as filtering goes?
I am putting together a UTM for a small biz of 6 machines. I will be using it as a router as well as a filtering for AV, Spam and Web Content. Untangle looks like the best setup out of the 3 but I would like to get started out on the right foot. I have used pfsense, but I am looking for more of...
I have come up with a $100ish spread between the platforms. I have left it up to the customer since both machines are well above the requirements they need.
Thanks for the input people.
Basic tasks. Office/Quickbooks. Nothing that would need a 4th core, but hey, I figured it'd be worth a shot.
I want to build a budget/low midrange computer that will last as long as what the business has right now. They are running W2000Pro so you know they are old.
I am putting together 7 pc's for an office and have a question about the CPU's.
Should I go the AMD route and unlock the 4th core to have a quad or should I go with an I3/I5 for a bit more money?
The PC's will have 4gb ram and run W7Pro.
Sorry no real worklog pics. I'm horrible at that sort of thing. I used this box http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30170864 and just built a frame to hole it. I used some mesh from Home Depot for the vent on the front.
It does 1080p without a sweat and silently too:)
I was given a...
