Thanks for the information on XNA. I wasn't aware of such a service.
But I honestly think Microsoft will realize that they will need an app-store or equivalent to truly compete with the iTouch. We will have to wait and see!
Hmmm.. It looks slick. I may hold off. But the apps are still weighing me down on the iPod Touch.
IF, however, the Zune HD has capability for custom apps, and has an open SDK for users to write their apps, then it will definitely be my new player, as there will likely be as many apps for it...
Thank you for the great reply. It would be about 2 more weeks before I bought either device, and thank you for the heads up about the new Zune. If I like what I hear, I will wait. If not I will probably go for the Touch. I have been leaning more towards it anyway to be honest.
As the title suggests, I am considering buying one of the two above. I have gone through the pros and cons, and the two seem to be on par with each other in terms of sound quality and playback options (formats).
I have been back and forth on it numerous times. On the one side, the Zune has...
I second that. It's possible your Windows install is corrupted. Get this out of the way, and then it narrows it down to memory and motherboard (potentially).
Yeah, those are v1.2 so that means you got yourself a pair of Microns. Start trying to tighten the timings, and see what you get. Slowly start to push them up testing with Memtest along the way. Good Luck, and congrats on the Microns :D
EDIT:
Woops! Sorry about that, apparently I looked...
Well, I can personally say that I have seen it OC, and the BIOS has so many features, it can make your head spin. That said, it also OC'd my friends E8600 to 4.7 o H2O. Yeah, it's overpriced, but you get the BIOS features with the money.
Thank you for the link. The trouble is, those sets of memory have had about 6 revisions, and after the 4th revision, they have used cheaper, less OC-able memory instead of the good microns. Any chance you could find the revision for me??

Care to give us a link to the RAM as well? I can look it up and see the chip it is based on. If you're lucky enough to have Micron D9's (many chips are D9s) then you can OC the hell out of them, and it will do 4-4-4-15 like it was made for it. And not to mention at 1200 MHz
You're fine. It's 4GB of DDR2800, right? If so, then it really won't make a difference. Your machine will like the 4GB regardless. And the only time you will see a real difference in the two is in synthetic benchmarks and (obviously) the Windows Experience Rating. I wouldn't sweat it if I...
ROFLMAO.
I think you have to consider the mouse shoulder that some people get, not to mention the cramps in the shoulders from excess keyboarding. It IS especially useful for women, as it does have that other pleasure as well
I think everyone has overlooked the fact that the seller's account is negative - so he does not have the money that everyone keeps saying he does have.
And as JDM put it, exe must have signed for the package, so in order for it to be sent back, he had to sign the paper knowing that it was...
You say this all occured in one business day, yet your timestamps disprove that, and then all of a sudden, you are at three weeks that have gone past.
You would have a solid case if there was not proof that the time frames you have given are incorrect. (I am referring to the email...
The item did arrive accordingly, you as a buyer refused that item. In my eyes, that puts all fault on you - and what's more, you waited a week before doing anything. It is clear as day that you refused it, and it was also made clear on here that you could have simply paid the $9, gotten the...
I'm going to assume it is 64 bit, as a 32 bit OS wouldn't have been able to address a bit more than the 3GB depending on the graphics card and some other things.
Which is another point, whoever is asking about the 6GB v 3 GB, you should definitely make sure you have a 64 bit OS if you want...
Yes, the statement about the constant stream is absolutely correct. The human eye doesn't see lights in frames like on a computer or TV.
And, seeing as how I have no research in the area, I cannot comment on the fact that we can interpret 100fps, etc. But I will say personally, I enjoy...
If you have this money now, then why not go for it? If you have the thousands to spend on hardware, then the electric bill shouldn't exactly be up on the list of things to consider. I know that this may seem ignorant or blunt, but that is just what I take from it.
And again, if you have all...
Exactly. But that's why you post here: to get the answer. And you definitely got an answer. And albeit a little complex, it is definitive; and you have to admit, it shows the people here really know what they are talking about. ;)
The slight click that I hear is barely a click. It is the sound of the plastic finding its way open on the back of the motherboard, and I doubt that the force THAT emits would cause any damage at all. The fans on my graphics card at 50% puts out more potentially harmful vibrations than the one...
Definitely 6GB or more. As long as you have a 64-bit OS, 6GB should be the lowest you should be considering. I have been on 4GB of DDR2 for my past two builds, and it has been my standard until the i7s. When I take the plunge, I will be looking at 12GB.
The GTX 285 would be a tremendous leap for almost all games. I am not too familiar on its heat and noise, but I know that the 4870 and 4870x2 do put out a bit of heat, and can be loud at higher fan speeds (50% and higher), although the triple fan design on the ASUS 4870x2 is very quiet, and...
I too was a hater of the push pin design until my good friend showed me how easy they are to put in if you do it right. When you open the box, they are ready to just be pushed right in, and almost no pressure has to be applied. If you have to twist and turn, and press till the motherboard is on...
The 120mm on low is a problem if you are not going to use front intake fans. A single exhaust fan is OK if and only if it puts out enough air to still suck in air from the front. The TriCool fan on low definitely does not do this.
You are also probably having an issue with the S1283 fan...
I think it is more of a psychological effect. I have gamed on many LCDs and CRTs and I typically was/am fine at 30fps or more. Take Crysis for example: When I play with a bit too high settings, it will drop to 35-40 fps, and it still looks smooth as silk. It is when it drops below the 28 fps...
Yeah, you should be fine. The GTX 295 isn't THAT long, and I have a 4870, which is pretty long, but I have also put a 4870X2 on my board, which is of a similar design (same reference board), with no blocking of SATA or any vital ports. It all fit well :D
Really? I am not too keen on the mobile graphics, but I know the 8200 on a desktop will play CS:S somewhat well. No AA or AF, and a max res. of 1600x1200 on medium, but it plays. But, I do not know the performance of the X4500HD, so that could be why.
Also, if you are planning on doing...
Well, it is a small screen and the graphics are severely lacking even for CS:S. Look for a laptop with a dedicated card in it. It will be much better for games...
Is there an option for boot menu when it is POSTing? If so, press that button, and choose DVD/CD.
Oh, and in the BIOS, see if there is an option for removable drive, or if there are multiple dvd/cd drives, put them before the IDE-0 to be extra sure that it boots from it. Also, make sure the...
Well, as I see it, the buyer could have easily provided information showing the $9 charge, and as he stated multiple times, JDM would have gladly paid it.
The fact that the buyer waited a week without contact about a refund, and no discussions whatsoever with JDM about paying the $9 says...
That's about my points for a year. Wow dude. Again, that is just sick. Congratulations on 1) Having the money to invest and 2) Caring enough to invest your time and money into the cause.
I am a little like you. I get what is good though. I look for a good price:performance ratio overall.
Also, I have to comment on the lack of the warranty for ATI. Visiontek offers a lifetime warranty, and XFX just got into making the 4000 series cards with double lifetime warranties so...
I will say that I too agree with this. I am not a fan of it just running there, but I guess it was a somewhat decent idea so that there are no errors or slowdowns when loading the game.
But there should at least be an option to run on startup and/or exit on game exit.
Wow. I must say that that is impressive. I thought I was pretty fly when I started folding on my 4870, but wow. So many GTX 295s! I hope you are WAYYYY up there on the ranks of whatever folding team you are on. I am happy that someone is spending that much money and time to look for cures...
I was in a similar boat as you.. When I first started overclocking, weird things happened, and I was WAY too conservative with my tweaks because I was so uncertain about what I was doing. But if you have a place to get help, or even have a friend who can help you learn to overclock, it is...
