I have my 2006 DFI LanParty nForce 4 SLI DR Expert still running with an X2 4800+. I must be me but it OC's like shit and had stability issues from the start. The Corsair memory often won't activate. The drivers were never matured. And forget about a beefy newer gfx card, it will freeze.
It was...
Some photos modding the GP102 pcb with a Heatkiller IV blovk from Watercool.de
I am still looking for a RGB solution for the block as it looks awesome with the transparent shroud.
These are the specs:
Odessey Mk 2 born April 22 2017:
Asus Maximus IX Extreme
i7 7700K @ 5.2 GHz
nVidia GP102 reference pcb with Heatkiller IV by Watercool.de @ 2050MHz
Swiftech Maelstrom V2 / MCP50X
G.Skill Trident Z RGB 32GB
Corsair 900D, HX850i, K95, Scimitar Pro, MM800
EK Coolstream CE 2x...
Thx. I am now in the process of looking for rgb versions for the gfx waterblock, the two 3mm front bay LED's and the two 5mm reservoir LED. They are all white now and the goal is to have the entire system switch to any desired color. Once i find the LED function for the gfx card software (I...
I thought of putting this up on HardOCP as Kyle and his team inspired me to further "power" customize my pc's ever since i read the Swiftech mcx64 review.
I do not own a car or anything that sinks money, except building pc's is a thing for me since i got my first custom built Pentium 60Mhz on...
I think my Asus P6T Deluxe V2 will die before the cpu will. I had such great experience with the platform since 2009 I bought a second hand X58 board. Also it will receive it's fourth gfx card upgrade.
I have an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 and recently installed an NH-D15s cooler. I was wondering what voltage you need for the 3.8Ghz. Mine did 3.8 but hot 85+C, that was on old cooler Mugen2.
This makes me wonder if my non de-lidded 6700K has a bad connection with the die. I reapplied Gelid Supreme to my H115i block and cpu because i thought the thermal past was maybe not distributed well. When i run Realbench i still reach 80C on only 1.30V running 4.5GHz.
This should be way lower...
I reverted back to the 1701 bios. Windows keeps reporting an unknown device. A motherboard that costed me € 360,- and all they mention in bios updates is improved stability. In my case the UEFI security prevented Windows 7 from booting and only later is read that i can turn that off wheres i...
I'd say quality can only be improved on the reference cards and when you buy a ultra expensive card like the Titan X or a Quadro you would want to have the option of a better PCB and/or cooling.
There seem to be a few custom Maxwell Titan X cards like from Gigabyte so makes me wonder if the Pascal Titan X will also get a custom version. The Gigabyte site has conflicting photos showing both a reference cooler and a custom Xtreme version like my 980Ti.
This guy has some interesting...
Just above my GFX card is a x1 pci-e slot available, it would not be astheatic but i think the ZxR could move there in case i ever use another GFX card. This one uses up 3 slots but the cooling is very good. Not in 20+ years have i ever had a dual gfx card setup. The only time I wanted that was...
I've just upgraded to the 1902 bios on my Maximus VIII Formula. CPU is 6700K. GPU is a Gigabyte Xtreme OC 980Ti set to factory OC.
x46 on all cores. Max x46 on cache ratio. Memory timing manually set to specs by manufacturor (Geil 3000-16-16-36).
Adaptive 1.305 offset 0.022. Running RealBench by...
Similar to my experience. I bought the Geforce1 with SDR at the time. Also bought a 8800GTX and now a 980Ti. I can't remember what the Geforce 3 Ti 500 cost me at the time. I remember it was kind of an uber GPU at the time in the days of AGP cards.
Some experiences with my Maximus VIII Formula. For my setup check my signature. Maybe i help some (perspective) owners.
I applied 19x19x5mm black aluminum heatspreaders to the controller and storage chips on the 950 Pro with use of Arctic thermal padding (also available as an adhesive). It does...
When i disable the Asmedia SATA device in the bios, windows freezes at startup even tho nothing is on those two ports. Just like these temp readings all kinds of weird things happen. It is far from mature this Z170 platform. I guess I have gotten used to the X58 platform.
I have a 6700K on a Maximus VIII Formula board with 2 ram sticks of 8GB GeIL. After using several stresstest apps like LinX, IntelBurnTest V2, AIDA 64, Realbench and 3DMark physics, have settled on adaptive mode 1.31 offset + 0.01. It seemed to be stable using 1.30 but difference seems to be...
It won't affect every day performance sticking it on the Formula board m.2 slot. It idles around 45C depending on good airflow. But unless you mod it better then I did you won't get good benchmarks as it throttles down above 75C. See my post #18.
I have used Arctic Silver Thermal Adhesive to attach copper shims to the controller and storage chips. These are 1mm thick and under continues load they now reach 74C so only 2C lower. The placing on the Formula board just isn't providing airflow. Performance has improved in that it takes longer...
76 Celsius. It cannot reach peak speeds trough benchmarks as the firmware seems to throttle it down. I just ordered copper 15x15x1mm heatsinks with Arctic thermal pads as seen in an article recently. In the hopes that alleviates its pains. That way i can augment it with an pci-e card adapted...
My 950 Pro installed into the M.2 on the M-VIII-F. SMART data (AIDA64) says it peaks at 76C under full SSD benchmark loads like ATTO, AS SSD, Crystal. Idle temp hovers around 50C. It's all installed in a well ventilated 900D but that doesnt make any difference with the M.2 location.
I used the DX12 option and very high textures on my 980 Ti and it quit on me while playing. I happened when the 6GB VRAM got maxed out (GPU-Z). Setting back textures does the trick. Everything else can be at very high.
It does hit 4Ghz quite easily. 1.275V if i remember correctly. 4.2 I can't try yet because I was a dumb ass for buying a CM Hyper 412S. I does a lot better then the stock cooler but even with two 120mm fans that directly exhaust to the case outtake it still reaches 90C under full load test @...
Thanks a lot for the review. An excellent way of getting to know the board.
My P6T Deluxe V2 / X58 [2009] will not die but i finally sidegraded to the Z170 platform.
Some settings: Geil memory set to manual using values given in menu and set to 2933MHz, 1.35V.
The XMP read 16-16-16-36 but...
My new stuff arrived 2 weeks ago. I installed vista and w7 public beta on it.
With the cpu at 3200MHz (20x160) and ram at 1604MHz 3dmark2006 gives a score of 17K using default settings at 1920x1200 resolution.
If i use auto setting for cpu and qpi voltage it uses 1.24V for the cpu.
I use the...
After reading some more reviews i ordered these for my new pc:
Lian Li PC-A7110B full tower case
Cooler Master Real Power M 700W
Asus P6T Deluxe V2
Scythe Mugen 2 cpu cooler
Intel Core I7 920 2.66 GHz
Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D
WD Caviar RE3 1TB x2 (raid striping, have external backup)
XFX...
As i said the price difference in Holland more or less matches the performance difference between the GTX 280 / 285. The 260 is also a great option, but in that case an Ati 4870 comes to mind. As long as its a single gpu card they all seem great.
I chose a modular psu because i don't like the...
