What 1156 cooler are you guys using/(planning on using) in your mATX builds?

CNPS9900 won't fit in most mATX cases.... >.>

What 1156 cooler are you guys using/(planning on using) in your mATX builds?

looks too tall... I think the SG02 only has ~86mm clearance? somewhere around there. I got the Scythe Zipang 2, but I think I seated my cooler wrong so need to fix the thermal paste and try again.

Hey, I'm planning a i5 build in SG02 (same as SG01), and I'm still looking into HSF solutions. I am thinking about using the H50, but am not sure how it will fit in the Sugo case, but I see in one of your posts that you did manage to get the radiator in. How did it turn out in the end? were...

What 1156 cooler are you guys using/(planning on using) in your mATX builds?

SG03 seems more ideal because of the 120mm fan slot... but wat about SG01/02? =/

    cpu cooling mod for sugo

bump? I'm also looking at the Corsair H50, but that costs a lot too. Anyone tried C12P, Zipang, or H50 in SG01/02 can share info?

What 1156 cooler are you guys using/(planning on using) in your mATX builds?

I'm thinking about the H50 for my SG02 as well... but it's going to be hard to fit it anywhere. Somebody around here modded it to fit on the left side (next to HDD cage)... anyone have more info?

    cpu cooling mod for sugo

Hey, I'm really tempted to do this mod for a i5 upgrade I'm planning, for SG02. However, the C12P is $70... quite expensive. I also saw the Scythe Zipang 2, which looks similar but slightly shorter w/o the fan. Does anyone know how the two compare? I can't seem to find any reviews...

    Gigabyte P55M-UD4: mATX P55

I'm thinking of getting the P55M-UD2 from Gigabyte... does anybody know if the Noctua NH-C12P will fit? I wanna try the Sugo (SG01/02) mod for it :) Thanks!

    SFF i5 Upgrade?

    Hey, I'm thinking about upgrading my current SFF build from E5200 to i5... (still trying to clear the $200~250 budget..) Right now I have: - Asus P5E-VM HDMI - Intel E5200 @ 3.7ghz - 2x2gb G.Skill DDR2-1066 - OCZ ModXStream 500W - Zalman 8700 HSF - EVGA 9800gtx+ OC - 2x 1TB HDD (Seagate and...

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

I am having a slightly annoying problem... it's been the second time in about two weeks or so that I had a BSOD in Win7, with the following message: "A clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor within the allocated time interval." Both times this happened, the computer was...

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

i would personally trust those apps more than realtemp... on the other hand, if you're really not sure, you can try putting your finger close to the base of the HSF and see how it feels... if it's only 53C then it should feel slightly warm, and if it's 70+C it should feel quite warm or hot
  13. A

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

use core temp or hwmonitor... and check with another app to make sure you're getting the right temperatures :)

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

i usually use hwmonitor, core temp, and everest... they all give the same values for tcase and tcores speedfan has core temperatures exactly 5C off i'm not entirely sure what effects tjmax has on core temps... but i know it isn't the "safe limit" on core temperatures. I usually ignore it and...
  15. A

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

@dosu: don't worry about tjmax... just worry about core temperatures and tcase temperatures... vs the intel thermal specs if you did the pencil mod, that looks about right.

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

I am not too sure about how much performance difference you will see with the ram speed being 120MHz lower with tighter timings... but... 70C on idle is EXTREMELY high, and it means that your CPU is at least 5-6C over the Intel thermal specs ALL THE TIME. That's really bad for the CPU. It...
  17. A

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

intel specs for the QX6850 is 0.85V - 1.5V, up to 64.5C you're about 30C over the thermal limit.... you should probably get a better cooler before baking your chip! =O

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

isn't corsair dominators 5-5-5-15? I have a feeling you're tweaking too many settings at once... and you should always control the CPU voltage in the BIOS, or at the very least monitor it with CPU-Z (so you know how much to bump it up manually). try tweaking one thing at once (first get...

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

i dont have time to read anything right now, but a quick advice: DONT use auto volt for CPU if you're OC's arent stable/posting

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

if i rmbr correctly realtemp is crap... and core temp agrees with a few other apps (everest, etc), so my bet is on core temp

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

I believe most people do (assuming everyone has severe vdroop, which I believe most people have)... here's the scenario: Let's say you need 1.32Vcore to keep 3.5GHz stable. Without vdroop mod, you might need to set ur vcore to 1.65V in bios, which ends up with 1.45 vcore idle and 1.32vcore...
  22. A

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

to reduce Vdroop, you will need to do the pencil mod on the board. I would start from there, and find a good OC guide (google) and ask if you run into any questions. Sorry I can't be any more helpful, I don't have the links with me and a quick search should turn things up
  23. A

Asus P5E-VM HDMI: best matx ever?

two things... - you might want to look into the vdroop mod for fixing the horrible v-droop on this board... without it, you can almost forget OCing. -on SG02F, you need to watch heating issues. I have the same case, same mbo, with a E5200 (OC to 3.7ghz) and a zalman 8700 HSF, and heat is...

    DreamCatcher v3.5 "Worklog"

sorry to hear about the mobo.. are you planning to UV light the case? the WC setup looks pretty good! hmm perhaps it might be a good idea to test a known working psu with the mobo (after ensuring everything is dry) outside of the case to verify that it is indeed the mobo... :)
  25. A

    DreamCatcher v3.5 "Worklog"

I guess in your setup with the WC and all it might be a bit different... for me, all the loads are constant and not too demanding, but if I were to WC or add something drawing a lot of power, I'll probably put it on a separate cable too :P

    DreamCatcher v3.5 "Worklog"

lol I guess so... how much can these cables take anyway? I figured that 1x HDD, 1x DVDRW, and a couple of fans can't draw more than a molex cable can stand lol
  27. A

    DreamCatcher v3.5 "Worklog"

I wouldn't know the difference between single rail and otherwise, but I have SATA connectors off the PSU too... I didn't use them because I wanted to reduce cable clutter as much as possible, and my fan controller HAD to run off molex (IIRC)
  28. A

    DreamCatcher v3.5 "Worklog"

wow that's a lot of cables =O I only used my PCI-E connector for 9800gtx+, and then one molex connector with 3 heads: - one split into two SATA connectors w/ the splitter that came with my ASUS P5E-VM, to power my HDD and DVD-RW drives - one connecting to my 120mm fan, which was added last -...

    Sugo SG01/SG02 Owners... Case Mods?

Alright... here's a few pics of what I did w/ the right side! It fits, but just barely... The left side still needs to be done, but now with the right side airflow going I can finally put the case back on my computer w/o the CPU baking! :D Now the right side is done, I might swap fans...

    SunTzu H20

hmmm I would be careful with cutting that edge. The shape keeps the case structurally strong. If you cut it there's a chance that it may get a little bit flimsy in that corner (esp if it's aluminum). SG02F (the F versions) has a SECC body, and the 2x80mm fan mounts run all the way to the...

    DreamCatcher v3.5 "Worklog"

I found a good way to hide cables is route them all through the edge of the case on the front of the left side (HDD/GPU area). This is what it looks like in my setup: I was able to get rid of almost all the cable clutter and even put a 120mm fan right up to the back of the PSU :)
  32. A

    DreamCatcher v3.5 "Worklog"

I don't know how it works in SG01 evolution, but for SG02 the 5.25" bays would get in the way, and also the HDD cage fan (not for evolution though) I would think that as long as your PSU fan isn't 2000rpm, a 60mm fan sitting flat on the motherboard shouldn't get affected too much... but it's...

    DreamCatcher v3.5 "Worklog"

nice build! maybe one of these days when I become rich and decide to go quad-core I'll get it water-cooled... but for now mine is fine :P I agree with modred189... it would be a good idea to get some intake airflow... instead of drawing air in passively, it's better to push air in where it...

    SunTzu H20

hmm this looks pretty good so far! I'm using SG02F, and I am having trouble with the back vertical frame of the case if I want to mount stuff on the inside... there's about 1.5mm of clearance only. if it's the same w/ SG01E, how are you getting around it?

    Sugo SG01/SG02 Owners... Case Mods?

haha thanks... I'm very happy with the results, especially as it was my first ever case mod and DIY metalworks project (unless you count building a small aluminum sumo robot) It took a long while to cut though (used crappy cutting disks that came w/ the rotary tool until I gave up and opened the...

    Sugo SG01/SG02 Owners... Case Mods?

Finally, I found some time to stop planning and get modding :p I did the top hole (will post pic later), but the sides are still untouched. I started drawing on the green tape and realized what you mean by the back vertical bar of the case being a pain in the ass. How did you work around it...

    Zalman 8700 vs Scythe Shuriken

Actually the overclock is only 48% :P That said, mine is only a dual core, and a quad-core would produce more heat than a dual core. Overclocked dual core like mine would probably generate just as much heat (130W+ according to PSU calculators) as a quad though. Intel specs do go up to...
