Sorry to necro an old thread - interested to see if people have had any luck with 4-6TB HDDs on this Controller.
Looking if I should upgrade or if my trusty old AOC-USAS2-L8e will kick on :)
Thanks so much for the reply :) - I'm seeing that SnapRAID is a good option without the hassle of completely relearning, rebuilding and alike that comes with ZFS.
I'll need to look at more closely at SnapRAID vs FlexRAID to see if I should just stick with what I have after I add more drives...
It's been a few years since I stuck my head in here after the fantastic help I had building my own NAS (http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1546329) - its still going strong but I have unfortunately run out of space haha!
My Setup:
CPU: Intel Quad-Core Xeon X3440 2.53 GHz, 8MB Cache, 2.5...
Sorry to bump an old thread, but I've had some time (and saved up a bit of $) to look at some options in regards to updating my F&P Server at home. This seems to still be a major concern of mine, however looking on the Supermicro website, there hasn't been a great load of updates to the 1156...
Think I'll end up going with the Sapphire Radeon HD7970 3GB OC Edition with Boost if I hear back from a few of you that its a good card.
In regards to the SSD - I currently have two options:
1. Samsung 256GB SSD 840BW Pro SATA3 2.5 - $259AUD
2. OCZ 256G Vector Series SSD - $275AUD
I'm leaning...
Thanks for the quick replies :). Here in Australia its currently looking like my local PC store is doing a deal on the Sapphire Radeon HD7970 3GB OC Edition with Boost for only AUD $399 (USD $412) - it seems that this can also be overclocked nicely and is cool from the reviews I've read.
I've...
With the release of Crysis 3, I figured it was time to visit [H] and seek the advice of the Gaming/PC Gurus! Please find below my specs:
CPU: Intel 2600k (Clocked to 4.5GHz)
CPU Cooling: Noctua NH-U12P SE2
MB: ASUS P8P67 Pro
RAM: 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws-XL 1600Mhz
SSD: 60GB OCZ Vertex 2...
Just spent the last 2 hours running MemTest - everything passed ><:
Also took another short video of 2 green blinking lights - one on the SuperMicro AOC-USAS2-L8e and the other on the Supermicro X8SIA-F - not sure if this helps:

EDIT: Also...
Hmm - it was brand new RAM when purchased. Is there a way to confirm this? I haven't Overclocked or touched BIOS options.
Keep suggestions rolling in - anything else I can provide you with to help?
Indeed I have. Should of mentioned I've had this beep since I built this Server over 8 months ago.
Used to happen maybe once every few days, but as I mentioned this is happened 2-3 times an hour now.
Let me know how you go re-Manual testing - would be interested.
Would it be possible for you to paste your settings currently for you're 4.5GHz?
In regards to AC - negative - doesn't reach my 'Computer Den' haha - I'll take a look at the A70 - but would like to save some $ :).
As stated above, was hitting 70-80c under Prime for 2-4hours (that was back on my B2, haven't tested with my new thermal paste + B3 Motherboard but doubt things would of changed too much).
I might do a test tonight and update this here - I'm happy where I am atm with the above settings - I...
Would you say giving an Offset approach a go? Or using Manually and slightly rising to say 1.3Volts while lowering LLC?
Still not 100% sure what LLC is doing and if it is bad to set to Ultra High.
As mentioned I do live in Australia so my room temperature is like 28c - playing Crysis 2...
Would having Load-Line Calibration set to Ultra High actually be causing my board any damage/overstress? I'm stable @ 4.5GHz with 1.28volts - only want to start fiddling again if I'm actually hurting things though haha.
I was under the impression - or what I read about originally atleast when I first got my 2600k, that over 1.3-1.4 was dangerous - thus why I decided to stick to:
AI Overclock Tuner: Manual
BLCK Freq: 100.00
Turbo Ratio: By All Cores (OS Adjust)
By All Cores: 45
Internal PLL OverVoltage...
Currently sitting with a 4.5GHz OC - Prime Stable - Reaches 75-80c under load - but down-under my ambient temperatures are much higher then you US folk haha :).
AI Overclock Tuner: Manual
BLCK Freq: 100.00
Turbo Ratio: By All Cores (OS Adjust)

Oh wow - you might be a lifesaver! I do indeed have W2K8 R2 as Host, will try as soon as I get home tonight - this is through the Control Panel > Device Manager, or meaning within VMWare when selecting Hardware for each Guest OS?
Cheers,
VD
Currently have a Supermicro X8SIA-F in my File Server at home, everything works fantastically but when running either VMWare or Virtualbox its noticeably 'sluggish' - I'm assuming this is due to only have on-board Matrox G200eW 16MB DDR2, but figured I would ask the Gurus if they had any...
Did some more fiddling 2nite and got the following a little lower temperatures with the following:
AI Tweaker:
AI Overclock Tuner - Manual
BCLK/PEG Frequency - 100
Turbo Frequncy - Enabled
By All Cores (Can Adjust In OS)
Internal PPL Overvoltage - Auto
Turbo Ratio - 45
Memory Frequency -...
Just spent the night reading through a number of threads/articles online and finally took the dive and tried my hand at OC'ing. This was after I re-applied my Noctua TIM with a new spread method to ensure lowest temps.

I was looking into this IC Diamond stuff until I read the reports about it taking off the CPU Details/Polishing effect.
Now looking into Shin-Etsu but its BLOODY rare. Currently using the stock Noctua TIM and worried about my 32-24 idle temps on my STOCK 2600k - it is bloody hot here in...
As mentioned preiovusly, how is ASUS dealing with non-US residents? I live in Australia and do not want to entail any downtime due to the shipping of my old board back, then a new one to me etc.
Would be helpful if I posted link..

Would love to know the outcome, if I can simply walk into the store, exchange for the Z68 when its available and pay the difference - that will be service!
I'm currently in Australia, were our temperature is like 25-32 outside - more like 30-35 in my house by the time I get home (closed up all day, takes air-con time to get around house etc).
I'm currently running a stock (non-OC) Intel 2600k with a UH-P12 SE2 (Push/Pull) in my Cooler Master...
I am currently using the NH-P12 SE2 and ASUS P67 Pro and tbh am not happy with the current temperatures either, but I believe thats more due to the fact that here in Australia its currently like a volcano.
My temps will go between 36-41 while playing WoW. What are you're temps like?

Cheers for that Tokey - I think I might do the same, but as you did - sub in a lower VCore value.
The difference between setting XMP for my RAM vs. Manually timings is?
Been reading through that post, and a number of others - some good advice there. Just seems that his suggestion of 1.415/1.425 is a little high when the MAX VCore has been suggested to be 1.5, and the fact that VCore values fluctuate, I would be scared to go over 1.4 myself.
I'm wondering what...
Have just recently built a new system based around the new Intel 2600k, and re-used my HAF-932 for the time being as it served me exceptionally well through my C2D days.
Specifications:
CPU: Intel 2600k
MB: ASUS P8P67 Pro
RAM: 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws-XL
SSD: 60GB OCZ Vertex 2 Extended...
