    Diskeeper 2011 beta?

Intriguing..but IMHO it's not necessarily true..you assume that all the fragments are always placed near each other on the physical disk...and all the files to be read are also always placed in close physical proximity on the disk...a rather unlikely scenario. Also (and I could be wrong here)...

What BitTorrent client are you running?

Yeah, utorrent is still what I use..it's still the best for me. I tried Vuze the other day, and it was bloated and clunky as hell, so uninstalled it right away.

Dragon Age 2 DX11 feature set revealed

I look forward to both TW2 and DA2..some of my favorite games; I pray they have awesome graphics lol...I just got a MSI o/ced GTX570 at a princely sum for my new rig, and don't have any decent game to exercise it. FO:NV at 1920x1080 and everything maxed out barely makes it sweat...I need...

Picture Editor with Custom Preset Cropping

Yes, irfanview will do preset cropping, scroll through (open) files in the directory with the mouse wheel using several sorting options, and also resize. You can automate the process if you wish. See screenshot in the link below. http://img267.imageshack.us/i/clipboard02za.jpg/

    NFS: Hot Pursuit

Yeah, happens to me too..constant 60 fps but lots of micro-stuttering. It also looks like crap even with graphics maxed at 1920x1200. Jaggies everywhere and car models look like they're from 5 years ago. Let's not get started on the crappy gameplay itself...indestructable cars that bounce from...

    Anyone play 'The Witcher' before?

I played TW:Enhanced Edition, so most of the bugs were fixed in that release. There were a few towards the very end (some stuttering and broken subtitles), but nothing that detracted significantly from the gameplay. Anyway, TW was one of the very best Action RPGs that I've played. Worth every...

win 7 pro said 1% fragmented AFTER I defrag the hard disk

From your link: and Where does it say that defrag runs in the background whenever it likes without being triggered by the scheduler as you have claimed? In fact, the engineers explicitly state that defragmentation is scheduled!! Electrofreak, yes, it is scheduled to run...

win 7 pro said 1% fragmented AFTER I defrag the hard disk

I don't use Win 7 at home yet (the Win 7 machines at work are all locked down and slow as shyte), so I haven't had any opportunity to play around with the defragger in depth. But this is the first time I've read about anti-fragmentation process operating in the background, since Microsoft hasn't...

win 7 pro said 1% fragmented AFTER I defrag the hard disk

I know that the task scheduler has eleventy billion uses, I am talking specifically about the task scheduler being used to schedule the defrag. What is so difficult to understand? If the damn defragger starts up automatically, why use the task scheduler to schedule a weekly...

    Dead Space controls?

Dead Space and RE5 were unplayable for me with their lousy control scheme..it's like wading through quicksand with deadweights tied to your limbs. Tried with the mouse+keyboard combo as well as the xbox 360 controller...just gave up after a while...a waste of time and money.

Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Announced for release on 11/11/11.

I played Dark Messiah a few years ago, and it was quite bug-free. But I do recall patching up the game before playing, so I must have bought it after the updates were released. The game itself was merely ok..kicking enemies off the cliff was interesting for a while, then it got old. Overall, the...

win 7 pro said 1% fragmented AFTER I defrag the hard disk

Not logical. If it's automagic, why the need for a schedule? According to your explanation, it never stops 'running' in the background once it has started up on the weekly Wednesday schedule. That defeats the purpose of scheduling, no? The Windows defragger starts on a schedule...

win 7 pro said 1% fragmented AFTER I defrag the hard disk

Nice try, but that's not the point.;) Consider this 'hypothetical' scenario. The windows defragger starts on a schedule at a preset time (for eg., every Wed, 0100h). It defrags as a low priority background process to clear up 'all' the fragmentation that it has encountered. Then it...

win 7 pro said 1% fragmented AFTER I defrag the hard disk

So, if you disable the schedule for the windows defragger, does it start up and defrag automagically?:D It's a low priority background process that is triggered according to schedule weekly (by default, IIRC). That's all.

win 7 pro said 1% fragmented AFTER I defrag the hard disk

The Windows defragmenter does not report fragments larger than 64 MB by default, that's probably why it always showed 0% fragmentation initially. Some of the new files written to the drive must have split into fragments larger than 64MB so that's being reflected in the '1% fragmentation' message...

What's a good controller for the PC?

I have both the logitech F510 and the xbox wired controller. I actually prefer the xbox one....it's recognized perfectly by most games I use it with, unlike the Logitech.

What is your PC Game of the Year?

Mass Effect 2 for me. I haven't played FO:NV yet, but it it was anything like FO3, it would have given ME2 a run for its money for my vote.

Best defrag utility for Home Server?

I second that. Although I don't use WHS myself, I recall that when it was released, MS officially advised against the use of the windows native defrag utility. Something to do with a shadow copy service - defrag conflict IIRC. So be careful, and use only a WHS compliant defrag utility (there are...

    Defrag RAID volumes?

+1. Windows sees the RAID volume as a single logical volume; any distinction wrt to the elements of the array is made only at the controller level IIRC. As for defragging large volumes, auto defraggers FTW....just install and forget. Manual defrag is / should be a thing of the past...self...

    Dirt 2 - overhyped

+1 I downloaded and installed the demo, and I've not felt the need to plug in the Momo, the xbox controller works perfectly for quick steering and sliding. With Shift, I had to resort to the wheel within 30 min of trying with the controller. Also, the demo runs perfectly smooth at...

Even after defragmenting C partition, it's still 16% framented. Thoughts?

Could be system restore (most likely) or metadata/pagefile/MFT. I could be wrong, but I don't think there are any third party freeware apps that can defrag any of the above for Win7. What you could do is d/l a trial version of a commercial defragger that supports Win7 x64 and use it to defrag...

The larger the harddrive, the less reliable?

Exactly! Many users tend to miss this point. When I replaced my 2x160 GB and a 250GB with a 640GB WD, I suddenly had a few spare SATA cables...:D

    Dirt 2 - overhyped

I will be getting Dirt2 soon, right now i am completely hooked on Shift, especially after the second patch+DLC that has fixed many of the annoyances. Win7 automatic defrag won't run

I could've sworn I read somewhere that Win 7's defrag uses a few services that are different from Vista's defrag. Sorry, but I am not sure what the specific services are :o; maybe one of these services is not starting up on a schedule, and this is preventing the defrag from running? As for...

    The next NFS installment: Shift

The physics is totally broken for some of the cars even on Tier 3. I get severe understeer with a R35 GT-R at < 30 mph on wide corners  Driving the veyron at the Nordschleife for the invitational is near impossible because apparently, a $1million car cannot handle properly at 25 mph on...

Any decent MPEG4 encoder that makes use of CUDA?

I use handbrake to convert movies (AVI/DVD) for viewing on my ipod touch Gen2; and I am happy with the output. Came across Badaboom which is supposed to speed up encoding using a CUDA enabled NV card (I have a GTX260), but all info on the interwebs points to horrible output quality.:( Any...

    What browser you use

    need for speed shift

I tried it with the Logitech Momo FF wheel on the PC, and the controls are way better than the xbox controller. The game even has a built-in profile for the wheel. I had to change the sensitivity to 35% for the steering and reduce deadzone for the brakes and accelerator to 0.The FF strength also...

    need for speed shift

I got it today and put in about 25 mins of gameplay. Initial impressions are very positive. FWIW, it runs just fine on my E6550/P35/2GB/GTX260sp16 OC/XP Pro SP3 rig at 1920x1200, 4xAA, 16xAF, v-sync on and everything (except shadows) on 'high'. Diskeeper to Launch File System Driver That Stops Fragmentation

If it works as advertised, yes it would be nice indeed. I wonder if it's going to be a standalone utility or part of DK2010. From the article it seems they are aiming more for the enterprise market rather than the home user. "Although the new technology may have an impact on consumer...

ETA for next-generation of cards from ATI & Nvidia?

If the real-life performance of the new ATI card(s) lives up to the hype, then I'll probably get it by year end when the GTX260, CPU and mobo are due for replacement. I have been an Nvidia user for the past 10 years, and may be it's time to switch camps for a while.

    Worst game of the year?

Too late 'pog, I already got the controller:D (But it's mainly for use with racing games, so no loss there). I've given up on Deadspace..not worth the trouble; even with the controller, the game just doesn't feel 'right', and I definitely do not enjoy playing it with the stick.

    Worst game of the year?

Well, I just got an xbox controller for Windows last week (mainly for GRiD, when I am too lazy to set up my logitech wheel), and I tried playing Dead Space. I'll admit that the controls are far smoother than with the keyboard and mouse, but i cannot adjust to the analog stick despite my best...

    UT3 multiplayer for PC dead?

I bought UT3 as soon as it was released, it did not live up to expectations. Crappy UI, the almost complete lack of human players on servers, and lousy maps...the game survived on my HDD for less than 2 weeks. I still have the discs in a drawer somewhere..maybe it's time to dust it off and...
