How much longer will the Yorkfield quad cores be available?

You're comparing an overclocked CPU to a CPU that comes 3ghz stock.

    Dominator or Reaper HPC

That's good ram as well, but i have not used G.Skill myself, but I have put them in builds for others. I'd still say go with Dom's. They're known to be some of the best overclocking RAM out there and you'll have a better chance of getting a good pair that will overclock well. If I recall...

Poll: What is the best "Gamer" video card in a troubled economy? 4850 or 9800gtx+

I'm a huge fan of the 4850. Got mine recently. Plays TF2 and Eve as 1920x1080 with everything cranked up perfectly. Plays Gears of War at 1280x720 with everything cranked plus DX10 great as well. Haven't ran FRAPS in most games to see what I'm getting, but I get around 60FPS in EVE. Great card...

    Dominator or Reaper HPC

Are you overclocking or just gaming? I've used the Dominators in my previous build, huge fan of them. Overclocked like champs for me. If you aren't, I'd still say go with the dom's. I'm bias though, never been a huge fan of OCZ, haven't used them since DDR-400 days.

Which DDR3 memory is better for an i7 build?

I'd go with at least 1600 personally. 1333 performs as well as low latency ddr2-800 and 1066 in games. 1600 will give you a boost from the get go. Going with someone like Crucial and getting their Ballistix you'll have a better chance and getting a nice overclock on your proc and ram.

How much longer will the Yorkfield quad cores be available?

Q9650 to $316? Wow. 18 months huh? That's good to hear. Bringing even more great performance at a really, really, really low price. 3GHZ quad core for just over $300.

How much longer will the Yorkfield quad cores be available?

I'm not sure how fast they generally phase at the last generation of processors. With the Core i7's just coming out and Intel coming out with another chipset with other cpu's available for it, any timeline on how much longer those of us looking to stick with 775 will be around for? Would like to...

    Motherboard upgrade without Windows re-install?

QFT. Always always fresh install. Might as well. Only takes a short amount of time with todays hardware, and you should be backing up your important files anyway.

Why install HSF while MB is in the case?

It makes life a lot easier with the motherboard out. Like what's been stated, you always want to be grounded. You can do this buy using an anti-static mat, wrist band, or putting on of your hands on the case. For the first time install, especially using the stock heatsink or just one with...

E6550 to E8400 = slight drop in windows score

I think the Windows scoring is a complete failure of a somewhat good idea. If it worked it would be nice for the none-techie to be able to look at a game to see if their system could run it. I don't think it's nearly comprehensive enough, When I had my Q6600, even at stock, it scored a 5.9...

Never thought the day would come where that would come true haha.

How many i7 920 versions are currently available (stepping, batch)?

4GHZ with 1.2V. That should leave just about everyone speachless.

    Anyone with the core i7

Ha, don't think we'll see the day for that to happen. But when that smack talking between Nvidia and Intel awhile back when a guy from Nvidia said CPU's won't be needed someday and Intel came out with the Core i7's with them being able to run some games as well as modern day mobile on board...

Q6600 wont post at 333X9, help oc.

When did you buy your Q6600? The only reason I ask is because if you bought it a year ago or so, it might be a B3. They ran a lot hotter and don't OC as well as G0 stepping. Taking up all 4 DIMM slots might also have something to do with it. I don't recall exactly why, but for some reason I...

    8800 GTX Ultra's (SLI) vs. 4870 1GB

?!You DON'T trust Tomshardware? If the card performed better in some charts, then they performed better. They might have had a driver issue or forgot something, but that's bound to happen in being around for over 10 years. That's one of the few legit websites out there for tech and benchmarks.

    Contemplating a Shuttle build.

Oh my mistake, was looking at them on Newegg, didn't realize it was an X38. The X38 does have one feature besides the bigger PSU that's compelling, and that's PCI-E 16x 2.0. But that's it, and from what I've read 2.0 doesn't make a different. Can't say I'd run Crossfire. Maybe if the 4850's drop.

    Contemplating a Shuttle build.

Yes but the Pro version as a 450w PSU the none-pro has a 400w, which is the one I'm contemplating on getting. I haven't decided on it or not, still reading as much as I can about the pro and none-pro. Going to look into getting a 450w shuttle power supply for a later date. As far as size is...

    Contemplating a Shuttle build.

Yea, I'm reading that people are running 4870's in that chassis. Guess I didn't think they were THAT good of power supplies.I don't have to use a sound card, I'm just fine with on board audio if I have to get a dual slot video card. Plus I figure with a 4870 or a GTX 260(Still have to look into...

    Contemplating a Shuttle build.

Recently I fell into an E8500 for free. Long story short, buddy needed a new motherboard, Fry's had a E8500/ECS mobo combo for REALLY cheap, Installed it for him, and got to keep the E8500. This opened up my budget a decent amount. This is the Shuttle I'm thinking about purchasing-...

High Resolution Gaming Overrated: 4850/Warhead nice at 1024x768 4xAA on 24" Monitor

I wouldn't say it's under rated, but 1024x768 is real, real, real low. I've gamed on 1280x1024 for quite sometime. That's a lower resolution as well, but games still look great on it. I haven't gamed on 1024x768 since I had my CRT in '05 heh. I'm personally fine with 1280x720 on my 32" LG...

For the price anything better then the 3850?

I'd suggest either of those. 4850's are great cards. It's amazing how much card you can get for your money now days. I know how it is, I'm sure you wanna get a new card as soon as you can, but it's really worth it to wait and have the money for a 4850.

    My SFF Build, pointers

I'd stick with the 500GB 7200.11 over the 300Raptor easily. You're better off with the extra cash towards something else in you're computer. Also, get a modular PSU for the case. You could end up regretting not getting one because of space, air flow, and heat.

SLI + mATX is it possible?

Theirs a reason why you see X2's and GX2's in Shuttles and other Micro cases.

OCZ PC2-8500 REAPER HpC or Platinum?

Reapers over the Platinums. If you're overclocking, I wouldn't go with either.

DDR3 standards and where they're heading

So the standards for DDR3 are DDR3 800, DDR3 1066, DDR3 1333, and DDR3 1600. The none JEDEC standards go up to DDR3-2400. We've had from DDR2-533 to DDR2 1200. DDR2-800 seems to have become what most people get, because of what I'd guess, price/performance. And there's generally no need to...

    Low budget gaming SFF build.

Yea, I'm stickin with that ECS. Gotten some pretty good reviews and seems legit for a sub $50 motherboard ha. As long as it'll support an E8400, or possibly a quad core. Might just rock the system without a case on my TV stand until I can afford a case I would really want. Nothing against the...

    Low budget gaming SFF build.

Thanks for the input NIcho, I read that you have to take out the hard drive cage to fit those big guys in. Looks like I'll be picking up an adapter as well. I used that same power supply in a build of mine when the 8800GT's first launched. Time flys, I still remember picking it up when...

    Low budget gaming SFF build.

Ok so to reply to both of you in order- Yes, I understand bigger isn't always better. I would like to keep the power supply I choose lower then that, but for the fact that I want head room and it's suppose to be such a good PSU, thought it might be a good idea to jump into. But if I'll be...

    Low budget gaming SFF build.

Hello everybody- New to the forums, not new at all with computers. But I am new to the SFF scene. Last rig I built was a DD Waterbox Plus case, Thermaltake 750w, DD water loop,XFX 780i, Q6600 @3.6GHZ (4 on a suicide run), 2x9800GTX's (bumped up from 2x 9600gt's when they first came out, the...
