I must say the card is quieter than I could have expected. I really don't hear it above my case fans. When I get in game I hear a slight increase obviously but it may just be fan increase not coil whine.
I have not monitored the temps closely yet. I just ran a game for a few and popped out...
I received the Zotac GTX 970 this week. I must say the performance is just great! This particular card is quite small too. If these were in 3-way SLI it would look pretty different as they are much shorter than previous generations of cards. I plan to go SLI but have to sell the old cards...
MeanBruce, yep, I think you are correct. I had to double check the images.
I am looking at CoreTemp right now after having shut down everything and I see the following:
Core #0 34
Core #1 27
Core #2 32
Core #3 30
It is a bit warm in the room as well though no scientific measure. :)
3820 Thermals
Stock under load - (Correction 37x Multiplier under load)
43x Multiplier under load -
Again, this is using a cheap Hyper 212+. Will have something more robust shortly.
@MeanBruce - you might be right about this Hyper-212+. Never a big fan of this cooler anyway but check out the temps after about 15 minutes of Prime95. I set the multiplier to 40.
To each their own. If you don't like it, don't buy it or get an affordable i5. For me it's about cutting edge, in a word, enthusiasts...
The 2600K released in Q1 11 and we now have something newer to bench and less costly than a 3930/3960.
I have to admit, from a virtualization standpoint...
Not bad - but a long wait. Newegg has a bundle without motherboard for about $335.
I'll run some tests against a 2600K with the same configuration (Memory/SLI/SSD). I'm curious to see the difference. I compared Cinebench scores against an older submission for the i7 950 and that was stock...
Thanks! I took several others so I'll try and showcase some more. Unfortunately I have a big project due and not a lot of time until tomorrow night, but then I'll tear into it further.
I did run a quick round of BF3 and seemed to recall CoreTemp indicating high 40's. I'll get more...
Got mine in last night. Don't have a lot of time to use it yet but quickly threw it on the bench. Since I got the Newegg bundle, I ended up looking for LGA2011 brackets on their site to get in the same order. The only one I could find was for the Hyper 212+ which I have kicking around. While...
I have one available tomorrow night I can put through the paces. It'll be on an ASRock X79 Extreme 4. For comparison I can bench it directly against a 2600K on an ASRock P67 Extreme 4. Should be interesting...
Let me know what you would like to see in terms of benchmarks.
You have to go to the 3930k Page on Newegg, and then click Browse Combos. The cheapest combo was the processor and some laptop transfer cable for $615. The IR Temperature reader was good too at $620. But alas, OOS again.
My plan is for the ASRock xtreme6 so that offered some good savings...
I just checked Superbiiz and it says the 3930K is In Stock as of right now. Quite a markup above the Newegg price but at least it is cheaper than the pulling the trigger on the 3960X.

I put an FX-8120 into my 890FXA-GD70 without any issues. I may have even updated the BIOS after swapping out the 1090T with the FX-8120. I wanted to benchmark and compare the 2 chips. So rest assured, this board will handle the FX.
I had no issues with an FX-8120 in the 890FXA-GD70.
Great looking machine! Quick question - the acrylic you have on the front of the Mountain Mods case covering the drive bays, is that custom or from Mountain Mods? I don't use any drives in those bays on mine and have been wanting to cover that with acrylic as well.
Thanks! Great work!

Just need to make some time to get this built and tested.
The Sidewinder X5 has some nice features but it does take take getting used to the feel. Very responsive and a slick little LCD readout for DPI.
The Logitech G5 is one of the more comfortable mice out there IMHO.
I always have to have the IO shield as well. I picked up a board from a friend who could never find the IO shield. Ended up costing about $10 from ASUS but it was worth it. Just does not feel complete with it missing.
I picked up the Phenom II X4 940 Biostar combo that was listed on Hotdeals. I wanted to jump back over to AMD. Phenom II X4 940 BE 3ghz and Biostar TA790GX XE. Could not be happier. Hit 7.4 on my Processor score in Win7. I need to compare that against my i7 920 processor score.
Based...
You know I noticed that after the build as well. Oops. :) Thanks for taking the time to check. I might put this kit up for sale and try one from the list unless there are other suggestions.
Thanks again.
I just picked up the P6T6 WS Revolution and cannot get the machine to POST with all 6 DIMMs installed (12gb). I have an OCZ 12gb kit of PC3 10666 ([email protected]). The machine POSTS and runs just fine on 3 sticks of RAM. I've even swapped the ram with 3 other sticks to ensure one wasn't bad and...
Another vote for the G15 (1st version). The keys have a fairly nice 'click' to them and it's the nicest illumated keyboard I've used. If you like ergo keyboards the Microsoft 4000 is pretty slick. It feels a little more 'mushy' than the 'click' of the G15.
I really wish I had picked up a...
Sorry, completely left that part out. They are the evga 320mb 8800GTS cards.
So you can essentially use one for PhysX?
Yeah, 3 280's would be overkill for me - though totally cool. :) I love Crysis but I dont get as much time for it lately.
Appreciate all the responses so far!
Hello,
I migrated from a pair of 8800 GTS cards in SLI to a pair of GTX 280s in SLI. Having a 3 way SLI board (M3N-HT Deluxe), curiosity got the better of me and I picked up a refurbed 8800 GTS from evga. Obviously I forgot to check the requirements for 3 way SLI first as the 8800 GTS is not...
Just got a pair of 8800 GT's from eVGA Bstock. They were shipped in plain white packaging with the cutout for the serial number just like the retail packaging. Almost identical sans the graphics. The cards look brand new, even have the plastic wrap over the heatsink. Great cards at a great...
