It seems like there are many tools out there for aligning a VM through vcenter but since Im no longer using that I may have to do a reinstall. However I checked both the xp and sever03 vms and they are identically misaligned so why would the xp vm perform so much worse?
Im going crazy trying to figure out whats causing this. I have a 500 GB Hdd that has 2 vms on it. A server2003 vm which performs very well and an XP vm which performs terribly. The following are HDtune measurements. The host OS is WIN7 using virtualbox. The server 03 vm was brought over from a...
yes this is 5.1. What i ended up doing is passing though a USB 3.0 pcix1 card to the vm and it worked. I tried every combination of passthough i could with the onboard controllers
How did you do it? I've tried everything.
Running ESXi 5
I have esxi installed on a usb drive so if I accidently pass-through the controller its on I can easily move it. My question is after passing a controller though to a server 08R2 vm the VM sees the controller in device manager but...
I am very interested in your results here.
I have an asRock x58 supercomputer mobo, i7930 and they included the exact same 2 port 6Gb/s PCIe sata card.
Running ESXI 5.0 I successfully passed through the onboard 6 port sata controller but never got the two port card working. I ended up...
Well everything (almost anyway) is up and running. I am very pleased with how everything turned out. I'm getting about 85 MB/s transfers from 08R2 and the passed through mobo sata controller. I have a few real quick questions about some loose ends.
If a device is not on ESXi's hardware...
The SIL card works, i used it today when testing the install on a usb drive. My only thought would be VM performance. But if you dont think raid 1 will have any benefit then ill skip it.
I have another question before I undertake this. Is raid 1 a good idea for the install location and datastore. Is it even necessary? The drives will be running off a pci sil3114 card. Thanks.
Thanks for the reply. What I'm thinking I may do is raid 2 500s or 1TB drives for the installation and datastore. Right now im installing to a usb drive for initial testing.
My shared files are not in a vmdk. They are on physical disks which is why i would require pass through of a sata...
it was probably shipped in an anti-static bag in anti-static bubble wrap. ESD is the only reason I can think of to disallow the first 2. Secondly newspaper sucks as packing material
First off let me lay out what I'm considering and you can tell me if its a reasonable plan.
Currently I have:
Desktop
- i7 930
- 12GB ram
Server
- 2008R2
- 8+ hdd
- Athlon II X4 3.0Ghz
- 4GB Ram
- Hyper-V with a few VMs
I'm thinking of basically switching my desktop with the...
yes. plug the two computer into each other using the available LAN ports. Set the ip addresses and subnets by hand and leave the default gateway blank.
So computer1
IP: 192.168.2.1
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway:
DNS:
Computer2
IP: 192.168.2.2
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway:
DNS:
I have a 1TB WD external laptop drive that is unresponsive. Normally I would take it out of the case and hook it up to my desktop to diagnose this problem. However, this external has the USB controller built right into the PCB. Damn. So I ordered another one, the exact same model number and...
Mine actually does this also, it doesnt matter if there are 2 drives or 10. When you add the new drive you can hear all the heads park on every other drive in the system, im not running raid so its not an issue but it is something I've noticed.
Ok. So what you will have to do is to set up the wireless router the same way you set up the computers. In the router settings there will be a page for setting up the WAN port of the wireless router. Put one of your unused ip addresses from charter and match up the rest of the fields with the...
Do your static IPs come by DHCP or do you have to configure them manually? Were the desktops/dvr configured manually. If it was automatic then just plugging in a wireless router in the the available port should work. Otherwise you would have to log into the routers setting page and change its...
Just a little something I had bee wanting to try for a while
The case is from a 2500 series router and I wanted to get my pfsense laptop into it. The red wires are a home made VGA extension to get video out and 2 keystone ethernet jacks. The fan is from the original router and is powered from...
Ah so when I installed the HyperV role it took my configuration settings of LAN1 and applied them to LAN3 and then turned LAN1 into a Vswitch.
I have set it back so LAN1 is only a Vswitch and LAN3 is everything except a Vswitch but I have one more question/issue.
Ethernet adapter Local...
So im running Server 08R2 as my media server and both my desktop and htpc map drives from it. The server has 2 network adapters, a Realtek LAN1 and LAN3 (New Virtual Network). LAN 3 showed up when I enabled HyperV and claims to be 10Gb/s link. I have no VMs running.
Yesterday I was having...
As always, crappy cell phone pics. Just moved and threw together the rack, I'll clean it up over christmas.
The 2nd white box is a staggered power up unit, AKA a convenient power strip/master shutoff
The notebook is my pfsense router running off Att uverse 8/1 nwire.
Switch is 16 port...
Just like the title says. Im moving out of my parents house and need to leave behind something so I can help them with their computer issues and backup. So what I have is a ESXi box running pfsense and server 2003 for backups/control/vpn/printserver. The setup works as it should however I cant...
I am trying to set up an esxi box running pfsense and untangle in bridge mode and have a most unusual problem. My network setup looks like this:
So internet comes in on vmnic2 which is pfsense, then through vswitch 1 which is the connection between pfsense and untangle, then out untangle on...
yes I was thinking of doing something like this with a quick bat script and telnet over the LAN but how do you tell the difference between a normal shutdown and a shutdown due to low battery. I guess I could figure out a way to check the battery status and only run it if the battery is less than...
I have the 1500VA, its works great and I also use the usb connection for Server08R2 shutdown. JohnYYC, how did you get it to shutdown multiple computers, this is something I want to get working next.
Just FYI, the lcd that shows power draw is only somewhat accurate. From my limited testing...
This is what mine was using. This forwarded to a windows server 2008 box which was also pptp
Also if you click the dropdown "Computer Name" you can select pptp, I've never used this but I like to think it would work.
Quick and dirty way. On each PC you dont want to connect to the internet leave the default gateway blank in the network settings. This will give it LAN access but it wont know how to get outside of that. I dont think its possible to do it router side with the 655
