I'll check on the cooler, the 8800gts would put me over my price limit. Is it really THAT necessary? Is there a better ATI card in the 8600gts price range? I was only thinking nvidia because linux support seems to be better (high-res, dual monitor, beryl setup)
I'm running dual 17" flat panels at 1280x1024. I wont be doing a whole lot of gaming, but would like somthing that would allow me to play everything that is out now with reasonable settings.
Thanks for the info on the RAM. I already have an antec true-power 550w that will work. Does...
Been out of the loop for awhile. Looking to upgrade my old pc. How do these components look? Can I do better for the money? Probably going to be used for 50% work (office apps, etc), 25% Games, 25% media tasks (mp3/video encoding, photoshop).
1 ASUS P5K LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel...
Really? I've been out of the loop for awhile, but when I built my current PC (5 years ago) AMD was the way to go.
Are the intel CPU's and chipsets really that much better nowadays?
Also, does Asus or Abit make a better mobo than the one listed above? I'm looking at about $700 for a...
I'm looking to update my old athlonXP/radeon 9700pro system so I can run Vista Ultimate. I don't need much HD space, since most of my data is on a seperate PC. Also, I already have a 24 pin PS. I want to do some gaming/Photoshot stuff. What do you guys think about this gear? Could I do any...
Well, upgrades for one thing. If for example, a new version of exchange came out, you would not be able to use that. Same with SQL, etc. In the long run, It's better to get the full products. I have had bad experiences with SBS.
I would advise against SBS. It really limits a lot of things. Also, there are better products out there besides ISA. I would say a good integration with your cisco gear would be Websense.
yeah, I know. I was just expanding on my earlier statement about post processing, since for some reason I was going to regret it.
No kidding about the "jump". It was a big jump for me, and I already had a EOS film body and a decent lens collection. After the 20D came the vertical grip...
 uh, why? Almost all pictures out of my 20D look better after adjusting levels and applying some USM in photoshop. As far as I know, this is common practice for Digital SLR cameras. Pictures out of my sony camera look pretty sharp and vivid straight from the camera compared to the...
Reduce your server's attack surface.
Security Configuration Wizard (SCW), one of the new features added to Windows Server 2003 in Service Pack 1 (SP1), uses an intuitive, role-based process to guide administrators through reducing the attack surface. With SCW you can disable unused services...
I need to replace my current socket A mobo, it's having problems. I need it to support IDE RAID, since I have two 200GB IDE drives in RAID 1 and don't need the SATA.
Are there any Socket A mobo's with IDE RAID available still? I looked on newegg and couldn't find any....
Thanks!
Spend a bit more on the body (I usually don't recommend this), and get a Canon Elan 7Ne. Huge improvement over the rebel in every area, for a little more money.
Those are some nice pics by the way. Where were they taken?
You should let windows create the home directory automatically when you create the account. This will set up permissions for you. The reason creator/owner doesn't have hany check boxes is because it is assigned special permissions so you have to look at the "advanced" button to see the...
best buy in spokane, wa. Haggled quite a bit, got a few rebates to get the price down to that. I was just kidding about throwing the kit lens away, image quality actually isn't too bad. Build quality kinda sucks though. I've only used it once.
How do you like that 50/1.4? I have a...
do you have a link to a good tutorial for doing this (unattended install disc)? I just haven't had the time to screw around with it, but would like to.
Thanks
Why hasn't anyone suggested http://support.microsoft.com ? There is a wealth of information there.
Also,
For windows 2003, just do the wizard for installing active directory from the configure my server banner that pops up when you first install. That will setup AD, DNS and DHCP to work...
No kidding...
The only instance that I find this necessary is for legacy apps that require local admin rights. Even then, you can probably do a "run as".
AT MOST, only put the domain users in the power users group.
Whatever, and BS... We used all cisco gear in the navy...
Most people who don't like cisco devices cannot configure them correctly. It is not for the faint of heart...
The only complaint that I have about cisco is the price....
Mine works great with the sveasoft firmware, and it worked great with the linksys firmware as well. The sveasoft firmware just adds A LOT of functionality. I bet you cannot find a box with that much functionality with any other brand for that price....
BTW, I dumped my PIX 501 for it...
Yes, that is correct. Even without 2 GC's the users should still be able to log in and authenticate, but you will not be able to make "account" changes to AD.
