I'm not sure if this is the right spot to post this, but I get a weird fan noise when waking computer from sleep for about 2 minutes and then it goes away.
At first it was my CPU fan, which was replaced, but is now happening again. This time, I think it's been the GPU because I just got a new...
I think it'd be a lot more evident next to a macbook air or non-retina macbook that is fairly recent. Just fullscreening certain apps is very choppy, resizing windows, and general everyday use is worse than my Air. I don't find that acceptable for paying almost $1500 (on a refurb too)...
I disagree with the lag being limited to ivy bridge/HD4000.
I just went to the Apple store this past weekend, and I even got a 15" base rMBP to appear laggy next to a cMBP 13". The 13" rMBP still wasn't snappy or as fluid as either. I'm not sure about the 15" rMBP with dedicated GPU, but if you...
I've actually just found a few threads on it. Here, here, and most recently, here.
No denying the retina screen is great, but clearly the Pros do not have enough horsepower for the screen if they can't keep up with a $999 base Air.
I'm also in the same boat. I got a 13" Air instead - I tried out the 2013 mid model 13" Retina, it had quite a bit of UI lag and general unresponsiveness compared to my Air. It's hard to justify 'upgrading' to a more sluggish computer.
Does anyone know if this was fixed?
I had the i5 2.4ghz/8gb/256gb model. I was really excited for it, but it fell short in a few areas:
1. I don't think the graphic card (or CPU) can run the resolution still. It was still pretty laggy in UI, at least compared to a 2013 Air.
2. Imperfections in retina screen (I know this...
NCX, is the 27xi really better than this monitor?
I bought the 27bw recently (same as 27xi, but in black), and it's nice but I find it a bit cheap. Not that you'd need to touch the monitor, but it flexes if I do on the left side. The screen goes inward.
I'm wondering if this Samsung be a step...
I don't know. I had a Note 2 and honestly, the big screen became a hindrance. I thought maybe it would settle my craving for a tablet and smartphone in one, but it did neither. The oversized UI looks like it is for people who can't see well. The resolution wasn't that great at all either. I...
It's also 4:3 or 3:2 instead of 16:9 like the iPhone... how do people miss this? A 6" iPhone wouldn't be anywhere close to a Mini size.
If the iPhone was 3:2 still and came out at 6", it would be very different and unwieldy as a phone as opposed to 16:9 @ 6".
How is the glare to other glossy panels such as the Apple Cinema Display?
I have the HP 27BW right now, but the build quality was a bit of a letdown. Considering the S2740L but heard problems with the 'overshoot' and non-uniformity.
I'm currently using a 2209wa which is 21.5". I moved and have no more space for my 50" plasma so I'm looking for a new monitor without making my GPU suck (7870). I've come to the conclusion that 1080p 27" is a good compromise for TV/console gaming/PC work and gaming.
How is the glare on the...
I went through quite a few MBA's, and they're all different on the quality spectrum. One had an off-centre lid, dents out of box and more minor stuff that disappointed me on a $1300 machine.
The worst was the keyboard. It was fantastic on 1 out of 4. The other three felt so cheap and fisher...
Selling a few months old but barely used like-new X230i. It was meant for business use but it was never used more than a handful of times and then put back in the box. Handled with extreme care and no signs of use.
Looking for $800 CDN obo.
Specs:
12.5" 1366x768 IPS Matte Display

I sold my 4S for $330 just a day ago.
I am bored of iOS and the smaller screens. Though, I do with something like iMessage was implemented in my Note 2, without having to find different programs for friends to DL. That's the only thing I miss. reception is bad at my house and texts sometimes...
I got the Note 2 for $0 on 3 year renewal here in Canada, might want to price match Best Buy.
And if you've been with a provider for a while, you can get retention plans. I got $50 tax/fees all in monthly plan, with unlimited text/call, 1GB data, caller id, etc.
Does anyone know if 4.1.2 was released for Rogers yet?
Like a poster above, I initially had a software update notification, but went away. And since I've gone back to 'check for updates,' nothing has been there.
I can't find any information on 4.1.2 coming to the Note 2. Just for the SGS2 and...
It's good you were able to fix it - but I'm not at all surprised that this "military tested" laptop had issues with such a fall.
It's not built as well as everyone here likes to think, starting to think some people work for Lenovo here. I have an x230 myself (5th one, finally decided to...
I would avoid the X series line, but the T line seems pretty good, although not comparable to the earlier models in build quality.
Their customer service is abysmal, returning yet another defective X230 and I can't wait to see how long it's going to take to get my refund.
I wasn't referring to you, I found your post quite informative. On both x230 and 220, it wouldnt sit flat on the desk, one of the keys were coming off, the coating was peeling, I could see a clear space between LCD and bezel, bottom left creaked and reportedly cracks with pressure since its thin...
Seriously, I would love to get a good x230 or better yet x220. But I've tried both already random pick and they both had some serious issues. Ive also seen many many users saying thinkpads weren't what they once were and have many build quality problems nowadays.
Blind fanboyism isn't going to...
So sad. It's okay man, another laptop can be better than yours in areas.
I agree with your ultrabook comments, it is why I sold mine. Tha being said, I don't want to take anymore chances on thinkpad to see if I get a good one, who'd want to with their 15% restocking fee?
Sounds like you're...
That is why I said "not taking into the fact" - any plastic laptop will win in a fall compared to aluminum. But the craftsmanship was a lot better than the thinkpad I had.
My MBA, while I had it briefly, had a lot better build quality - not taking into fact the aluminum vs plastic durability. I got rid of it for other reasons.
Difference is, I look for what is best without any brand loyalty, unlike you. Ignorant people like you is what lets Lenovo do this.. just...
I don't doubt there could possibly be some good batches out of very many bad ones, or just people not looking for problems because they automatically think it's "thinkpad" which is what Lenovo wants.
There's nothing more I can say, a reinforced frame that cracks with ease, breaks apart easily...
Honestly, go check even their own forums. Their own fans think and know that the latest generations have decreased in quality a lot, something to do with selling to a chinese company a few years back I think. I've also seen this first hand, dealing with a T61 and a X220/X230. It's a lot...
I love when people just read into the glowing reviews about the ThinkPad, no better than an Apple fanboy. Learn to use Google. 90% of these people who review this laptop just go with the same ignorant thinking you people have that let Lenovo get away with this shit:
Literally dozens...
This really isn't a good reccomendation anymore. Thinkpads were once good but far from it now. Im not talking about the keyboard, but the build quality. It is much worse on their last two lines, just do a quick google search to reveal a plethora of problems with them. They went from absurdly...
I'm not an Apple fanboy by any means, and actually just sold my MacBook a few weeks ago as it wasn't for me. But honestly? I think this is 100% correct.
I also agree with the above poster for nitpicking "oh lulz that dusnt look liek iphone!!' come on...
Apple took some things to new places and...
How is the integrated GPU on that though? I think it's HD2000, and most people who use it (it seems via google), use it with a separate GPU.
So far I'm changing/adding these:
Antec Earthwatts Green Series 380W ATX12V 80PLUS Bronze *No Pwr Cord* $43
Fractal Design Core 1000 mATX Computer Case...
^Thanks.
Since that CPU is recommended twice now, I'll switch to that. But my problem was that it's not in stock at NCIX - I'd have to get it shipped, instead of picking it up.
Is that combo much better than the one I chose? It's 163.64$ with tax and shipping, versus $185 for the AMD cpu/mobo...
Here is something I'm thinking about getting, please let me know if there is any compatibility issues or better alternatives for these:
(can't link to NC.IX for some reason)
Nmedia HTPC-5000B Desktop Media Centre Case mATX Black 1X5.25 4X3.5INT Card Reader No PS $60
AMD A8-3870K Black APU...
Yeah, that would sound good, but I don't know if she needs that much power CPU wise.
I just don't want a motherboard that has a high failure rate. I remember looking for parts a few months back, and a lot of the reviews had failures in the mobo's i was looking at unfortunately.
Hello,
I am buying my mother a HTPC solely for just browsing and streaming movies (never 1080p or even 720p sadly, but I want to be able to run that for the future). Then just general programs, etc. (in CANADA)
I want something that doesn't cheap out on parts too much to the point where it's a...
Lenovo and thinkpads have gone down in quality a lot over the years. They're among the worst now, both in build quality and customer service.
Everyone always say "it's a thinkpad, they're amazing an have the best quality, you can do anything you want to them and they'll survive!" - OK, yet the...
