I want to run network wire in a single story house built in '89; it has fire blocks unfortunately.
Monoprice cat6 cable (Product # 40669) seems to be the best deal right now, so I'm likely to use that.
I'm trying to decide where to bring all of them wires together - aka where to have my...
Good point about the wider desk.
I spent 90 minutes rummaging through 2x12s at Lowes. Found an acceptable 9 ft piece, had them cut the cracked ends, hope it does not crack on my desk. Yes, it is fairly heavy. More to follow.
Thanks for the article and the aluminum idea, I never thought of using...
Thanks, that's what I was thinking, the only problem is finding one that is not cracked. I'll keep searching for the "one". The 2x12 are 1.5x11.25 when measured.
Thanks for the replies!
I am leaning towards using a plank like this one: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Common-1-in-x-12-in-x-6-ft-Actual-0-75-in-x-11-25-in-x-6-ft-Whitewood-Board/1000057625
The problem with it is that it's only 3/4" thick in real life and I'm worried about bending. Don't want the...
I partially moved to a new place, picked up a desk on CG and now I'm trying to fit everything in. As you can see, the receiver and speakers pose a problem. Initially I was thinking of finding some shelves/cabinet combos where I would fit the receiver and printer (not pictured) and have the...
I want to buy a new 8TB drive, it will be installed in a removable caddy and used for large backups in a Windows machine; single drive, no raid.
So far I see:
Toshiba X300 HDWF180XZSTA for $178
Seagate BarraCuda ST8000DM004 for $150
WD Red WD80EFAX for $219
I'm trying to avoid a junk drive...
There are few things more satisfying than necroposting, so here it goes:
I just upgraded an i7-860/GA-P55-UD4P v1.0 rig to 32GB RAM, using 4 sticks of Crucial Ballistix Sport.
My wife's computer with w10 aniversary update struggled with failed updates for about a month before I caught wind of it. Linux went in, much faster, she's happy... (with the computer at least).
What will happen is that developers will release their games through the windows store because the royalties will be less, it's obvious really.
As for the starting post, yeah a linux exclusive game will move all businesses and non-gamers off windows. Now if BulletDust said a new linux...
Please recommend some image/picture viewers that are fast, especially when browsing photos in a windows share. They need to open raw files too, like .pef and .orf. Preferred win image viewers are Irfanview and FSViewer.
Distro used is MX-Linux.
edit: Found one: Geeqie
Well, I tried W10 v10240 just for kicks, and it does give you the option to install home or pro. My issue is that v1703 does not give the option on this particular computer and just installs whatever cause it knows best.
What I ended up doing is change win key to:
Windows 10 Pro Generic Key : VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T
A couple of restarts later it became a Pro.
This is a bad decision taken by M$ for the v1703 ISO, one more annoying thing about W10.
I'm having trouble fresh installing w10 pro v1703 on a lenovo PC with a w8home key embedded in the bios.
I never get asked if I want to install the home or pro version, and it just installs the home.
Tips please?
Please recommend a fanless, inexpensive switch than can do rate limiting per port. I'm interested in rate limiting options bellow 10Mbps.
Small size is preferred (5 ports is sufficient).
Switch can be used, and can be 10/100.
I must not power cycle it every week to keep it working.
My wife is running W10 on my old Athlon 64 x2 6000+ with a 6100 chipset mobo. She is using a dedicated video card, not the onboard. The only issue the setup has is that fast startup has to be disabled, otherwise it takes 17 minutes to start LOL.
Your processor might be first generation - that...
Thanks for the replies.
This will be used in a small company setting. They have another software that links to the office suite. It has to be Office 2013 H&B because thats what they (the other software vendor) are supporting. Whenever their s**t software isn't working, they blame it on Office...
Just to confirm, when moving multiple folders the delay adds up. Moving 10 empty folders took 31 seconds.
Does anyone know when the next mainstream build of W10 will be released?
I ran MalwareBytes it didn't find anything, as expected. The only other AV is windows defender.
I did have some shell extensions, but I disabled those with shellexview a couple of months ago (trying to fix the renaming problem). Right clicking on a folder is not delayed.
The folder renaming...
Update:
It is 4 seconds not 3, that's 33% worse :).
BulletDust - 4 seconds are not bad enough to make me reinstall windows (which is also pointless with the new M$ policy of build updates)
The renaming does not involve hdd activity, but does use up to 25% of the cpu - 1 core at 100% - all used...
I'm having this problem with renaming folders with w explorer. I type, press enter, and then have to wait about 3 seconds. W10 64 bit home. Folders can have no contents, no difference.
Renaming with something like total commander works as expected.
Any clues? Thanks.
Did you try to take ownership of the folders?
Also, elaborate on this: "Tried to change permissions with some ???stuff???, then canceled out (then got a nasty error message saying I could really screw stuff up, something about files existing in incompatible states or something)."
I'm wondering if someone here tried to install KB3065988 on server 2012 (non R2)? I'm trying to get the relevant domain group policy items (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3080351).
