Amazon 600-Gs are shipping, just got my notification today and I'll have it Monday. Unfortunately, I leave town Monday for a week on a business trip :(
Definitely interested.
Regarding the zipper top though...
With the strap change to be sides of the case, a zipper top wouldn't really be needed. Personally, I like the current flip over top, and instead of a zipper edge, I'd look at a Velcro or even light magnetic closure for the flap.
It also includes both aluminum and tempered glass side panels, which drives the cost up a bit.
Not a bad design, if I hadn't dropped cash on the M1, I'd probably take a look at it.
It's a 3sided "box" of aluminum honeycomb, from what I've seen. That gives it a huge surface area actually.
Also, it appears the cpu/gpu attach directly to the plates, instead of using heatpipes, which should make it a bit more efficient.
The base model mac mini doesn't include a discrete GPU, it uses the Intel 3000; this uses the intel 4000.
For what's it's marketed use is: HTPC, electronic signage, light use, I think this box is perfectly set for internal hardware and size. Could they have gone with a larger CPU? Sure, but...
Wow, I get slammed for being a "rabid fanboy", and all the rabid talk has come from the attackers. Hell, I was just trying to answer the OP on how the mini worked as an HTPC, since I'd actually used one.
WHAT does OS X have anything to do with this discussion?! Never once have I mentioned...
As long as you don't care about TrueHD or DTS-HD full bitrate audio, you're fine. Course, not sure why you're worried about blu-ray at 1080p, then dropping your audio down to 16bit/48Khz... and, you can't run at 24hz on the video either...
Granted, the mini can't do the audio today either...
I'll agree adding the Vista OS to the price hurts a bit...
But the BR drive cost is going to be the same for a Mini as for a PC... Sure, you'd save the "wasted" cost of the standard dvd drive that comes in the mini, but that's not that significant.
I'm not saying the Mini is the end all...
I never said I don't have HD sources, I just don't run them through my HTPC. And if I didn't have an HDTV, I wouldn't have much need for blu-ray or 1080p video.
"blu-ray ripped dvd" = blu-ray encoded disc ripped to HDD storage; hopefully that's clear enough.
Seriously guys, I could care...
What's the bs part? For me, the purpose of a HTPC is the Theatre part, which is movies. And I don't pull off torrent actually, I've ripped all mine myself.
And, seriously, you're going to criticize my GRAMMER?! If you can't figure out what I meant by "blu-ray ripped dvd" from the post, I...
Actually, I hate Apple as a company, and their OSs, but I'm becoming a fan of some of their hardware. They do a nice hardware build, and some of them aren't out of line pricewise.
And if you actually read my post, and took it in context, I said that the HDMI ON THE MINI didn't support audio...
Well, I'm one of the folks that DID go out and try the new Mac Mini's as an HTPC.
The base model, 2.0ghz cpu, upgraded ram to 2gig. Ripped off OSX and threw on Vista.
To clear up the hdmi audio question: Audio out today is limited to stereo out of the headphone jack, or TOS out of the...
Looks like a great platform, except for a few problems with this generation model:
DVI connector only, so no audio over HDMI for single cable to display.
1GB RAM only, soldered onboard also, so no upgrade to RAM.
SPDIF audio only, so while it's HD audio, it's limited to 2channel only for...
I've got access to a sheet metal bender, so not worried about the tabs myself.
I'd thought about that with the PSU. The case is in use as my main rig right now, so haven't had time to tear it back apart and really look into detail on the PSU mounting, or the 1x HDD mount idea I had.
Here's another version. This one incorporates foldable "tabs" that match those on the stock backplate. Vertical tabs on the left and right side of the motherboard area, meant to help line up your motherboard, as well as the horizontal tab meant as a finger hold to pull the MB tray out. Also...
Here's my workup/modification of Tremelos' Backplate; and here's the file
Holes/cutouts all line up (of course), but wanted to throw it out there for feedback before I ordered it.
I think the PSU screw holes are ok, placement wise, and should provide enough support, but figured I'd get a...
Love the case, I just wish I had the skills Tremeloes does :P
I'm running a Asus P5E-VM HDMI with e8400 and the GTX280 and Velociraptor 300mb. Can't beat the case for looks and size. I needed something to fit back into a fairly small cabinet, and this just makes it. But, since it's an...
I've got a 280 in mine, fits fine with standard 25mm depth fans. You'll need to feed power to the card through the top, so make sure to leave the bottom drive bay open on the left hand side.
