wat
it can, as shown in the first screenshot I posted.
4 CPU with 4 cores per socket, so Sockets = 1
screenshot from the ESXi host web console
CPU = total core count, regardless of cores per socket or number of sockets.
you then expand CPU configuration to configure Cores per Socket. Set...
CPU needs to be set to the total number of cores you want, regardless of vCore or vCPU count. Then you adjust Cores per Socket to get what you want.
In your case you need to set CPU to 4, then you should be able to set Cores per Socket to 4.
If I wanted total of 4 vCPU but 2 sockets, I just...

granted that's a >2yr old thread.
That looks to be related to the Azure File...
got another NUC, so 3.
Recently'ish picked up a Ubiquiti ES-16-XG 10Gb switch.
Picked up 3x QNAP QNA-T130G1S (TB3 to SFP+) as Aquantia does have ESXi drivers that support the AQC-100 chip.
Rebuilt my homelab, using vSAN.
No issues.
Figured out how to silence the compliance pieces. There's a...

been using it for years, and rarely every any issues. I hear other state the same though.
oh I don't disagree.
I've also heard similar about newsgroup ninja; or is it the same parent company behind both?
I dunno, astraweb survived despite not charging a bunch of people for years, myself included.
I think I paid for 1 year. Got 6.
And... back to it again. Finally got a renewal notice over a year ago, paid a year. Still working, despite being at like 18 months.
NSX is a whole different beast altogether.
I got to attend a presentation a few weeks back.
It allows massive micro-segmentation even within VLANs.
In essence, it's a per-port firewall.
You can group VMs via tags and apply rules to the tags, for example.
There's quite a bit more than it...
no, just using it for NFS storage.
One of these days I want to do iSCSI boot for ESXi hosts. But... I need a proper NAS. Not the thing I hobbled together that has garbage performance.
Related to my topic... :p
since I destroyed the vSAN cluster, node2 no longer complains of "degrading" health on the SSD.
ended up piecing together some old drives and mobo and loaded up FreeNAS until I can build myself a proper NAS.
Was hoping to hack together my old MediaSmart Server, but...
considering the host itself is reporting issues with my disk but no testing reports any issues, me thinks it's not vsan related.
and, as I want to get some experience with it just because, well... your solution is not a solution.
well I just fucked up.
I forgot I had disabled the vmw_ahci module one host 1, but never rebooted it.
oops.
vsan is back up.
still not sure what's goin gon with host 2.
even badblocks non-destructive read-write test came back with 0 errors, but host is still barking about the drive "degrading"
well smartctl long test passed on the ssd.
running badblocks non-destructive read-write test.
if that passes then I'd have to say the issue is compatibility-related, and I'd be calling it quits with vSAN attempts for now.
so today... think I destroyed vsan again, by powering both hosts off.
per VMware, everything should get re-established.

sadly, it did not. Or, has not.
Even after sitting for over 30 minutes.

don't necessarily need server-grade, but would prefer gear that's on the HCL.

So looking to get a better homelab going.
While I interested in the SuperMicro E300-9D-4CN8TP

I don't want to worry about the whining 40mm fans.
I think I've decided on this...
gotta say, maybe it's because I'm not 10gbe yet, running on NUCs, and it's only a 2-node stretched cluster with a nested witness host, but... none of that should be causing these issues.
Occurred this morning as well, and it only seems to occur after storage vmotioning a single disk from an NFS...
I've heard a fair amount of good.
And really, just using the 60-day trial to test it out because I was curious. I also haven't gotten any experience with vSphere 6.7 yet, as we are still on 6.0 due to other infrastructure compatibility pieces that we need to upgrade first.
since...
Well never mind.
vcenter crashed, and now all VMs are "unknown" status and "name" is just a single digit number.
browsing the vsandatacenter store isn't showing the VCSA or vsan witness appliance vmdks on either host.
neat...
time to rebuild.
Just for funsies, and to see what this vSAN thing is all about, decided to build a 2-node VMware vSAN cluster.
Hosts are running on 8th Gen NUC i7's, 32GB RAM, 1x 250gb nvme, 1x 2tb SSD, booting off old USB thumbsticks.
Took a bit to figure out how to get it all working, but I managed.
Only...
pretty much SOL then.
Only thing that they could maybe possibly do, which may not have an impact, is lower the max sync rate at the port of the DSLAM.
Back when I was a field tech for DSL ISP/telco, we somewhat frequently had customers with high error rates. It was due to the port config on the...
SNR is low for that very high B2 attenuation.
generally, higher attenuation means longer loop length.
my guess is either wiring issue (internal wiring or telco run to NID), or very long loop length.
NID on the house happen to have a test jack? If so, and if you can, plug modem directly to test...

so... the chipset drivers I downloaded directly from AMD appear to have been the cause...? wtf.
18.10.0813 from AMD.
17.40.3765 from MSI.
Issue appears to be resolved, or at least not occurring, with 17.40.3765.
I probably would have maybe eventually got to this, but your suggestion bumped it up...
I would expect them to just provide (and maybe repackage) drivers supplied by manufacturer, but I'll give it a go.
not sure what VRR stands for so... I would say no :p
considering it's a less than 1 week old install, with nothing other than some basic apps (chrome, firefox, vlc, 7zip), I'm...
Currently using drivers downloaded from AMD for graphics and chipset.
Downloaded and installed Intel drivers for LAN.
Downloaded and installed Realtek drivers.
When it was just the initial drivers installed by Windows, it wasn't being problematic.
May have just been timing or coincidental.
Too long since I've done this kind of troubleshooting.
