I just RMA'd an XFX 5870 card to XFX because of white dots everywhere (bad video memory). Their tech support was quite helpful and quick. I already have it in the mail. Hopefully the turn around time is quick---I've heard good things about it.
Yeah, grabbed from you at nvnews! (It so perfectly captured the issue, heh) Where did you hear about the upcoming fix? It seems strange it'd be DX 10 issue when it appears on the desktop and in web browsing.
Strange problem with my XFX 5870. About 50% of the time when I boot my computer, little white dots appear on the desktop. They also appear in videos and games. I've only seen one other instance on the internet where this has happened to someone else. Here's a screenshot...
There's an interesting trade off
According to the benchmark, Direct X 10 runs 10 fps faster than Direct X 9 using the same settings (1280x1024 2x aa, very high settings) (50 vs. 40 fps)
But Directx 10 has stuttering. So to cure the stuttering you have to limit the fps to about 35. So then...
That''s disheartening. I RMA'd my card to BFG today, and I'm hoping the replacement will fix the errors I get, which are similar to yours. But now I'm not sure if it will. If the new replacement card (which could take up to two weeks to get here) still has artifacts, I'll probably reformat...
