Yes! I finally took that step, bypassing the enclosure and connecting the drives up directly -- and you're right. Had the same issue!
So now I know the controller is my problem.
What I'm now starting to wonder though is, could my LSI 9200-8e card actually be working normally -- but this is just...
I started a different message thread in here recently about issues getting my HP MicroServer N40L to communicate properly with 4 SATA drives I put in an external enclosure.
Basically, what was happening is that my LSI Logic 9200-8e HBA card I put in the MicroServer would generate a slew of...
Speaking of this whole gaming laptop discussion .... Does anyone have experience gaming with the Dell XPS15? I own an XPS13 running Ubuntu Linux which I bought about a year ago on sale and really like (except for that awful placement of its webcam). But it's definitely not for gaming.
When I...
Ok .... So you're basically thinking my issue comes down to the cable I'm using not being wired correctly for the intended application?
Judging by the blurb written here:

I got the impression that I was just dealing with an older...
FWIW, I just had the same fight finding drivers and firmware for the LSI 9200-8e!
Broadcom's site didn't show it in the pull-down menus where I expected to find it, and it would only pull up documentation/owner's manuals when I did a search for it.
I finally found a direct link to download what...
I'm still new to working with "professional grade" drive enclosures on servers myself. (Posted a question in here myself about issues getting an LSI SAS card working properly with FreeNAS on an HP MicroServer.)
But from what I've been able to determine so far? The "latest and greatest"...
Yeah.... I realized "port multiplier" isn't really the correct name for the part. The board inside the enclosure seems to simply take 4 SATA cables and put the signals from all of them onto pins in an SFF-8470 port on the back of the unit.
Actually, I've not been able to locate this particular enclosure online anyplace.
It has a sticker on the back that says "Made in China" and a serial number on another label, but no model number or brand identifiers on it anyplace.
It actually has a total of 5 5.25" drive bays on the front. The...
This might be a long shot, but was hoping somebody on here might have run across my same issue.
I have an old HP MicroServer N40L that I've used for years as a FreeNAS box at home, and as my Plex media server. Recently, I came across a generic external drive enclosure that seemed to be in good...
I've owned one of the new Mac Pros since early 2014. I use it as my primary home computer. Overkill or a waste of money? I guess it's a matter of perspective. In my case though, I'm a long time Mac user who had good experiences with both a 2006 and a 2008 Mac Pro tower (and a G5 PowerMac tower...
IMO, yeah -- you *always* want to wait for Apple's "media events" or announcements of new products before purchasing. With Apple, this is much more critical than with most other companies, because Apple only refreshes a given product line once a year or so, in most cases. Sometimes they go even...
