Good review Daniel. I would suggest re-testing the previous tests with the new BIOS since it seems to improve a lot of things, not just mouse/xmp/voltages. ETeknix did their review with F5a and didn't have any of the issues you guys seemed to have...
Would it not make more sense to explain the lower temperatures as simply having better TIM application when you installed the CPU on this mobo? Possibly combined with lower ambient as well? Or simply whatever software you used to read the temperature doesn't properly read from a Z97?
I see no...
Well for whatever reason it will not work properly in Mantle but in regular DX11 crossfire now works just fine in 14.3... so... kind of there.. almost... screw it, I'll take it :)
Damn it. Used DDU to remove everything in safe mode, it removed some references to the 6900 series which was the old card I had before I got the two 290's so I was happy to see that, but BF4 still will not utilize both cards with 14.3.
Sigh.
Well BF4 works now with Crossfire. The trick is now to get it working with 14.x drivers somehow. Skyrim not working is disappointing but runs great enough on a single GPU that I can let it slide.
I will send you the LTC when I get home tonight :)
I'm still seeing the alternating video cards usage on Skyrim. But, from what I remember, Crossfire has always been odd in that game. Maybe if I can get 14.x working in BF4, it'll also work in Skyrim.
Well it would seem that going back to 13.12 made it work in battlefield. But none of the 14.x drivers would work for me. I guess that means I need to do a thorough clean in Safe Mode? I always used AMD's uninstall utility to try the 14.x drivers but I guess it isn't good enough?
Would a Repair Windows installation be enough of a 'reinstall' for Win 8?
I've never used it but from what I understand it basically reinstalls windows while keeping all your files. Or for these purposes would it not be enough?
Well it's not just making it look like they're not running correctly, I really see no increase in FPS on Crossfire vs Single GPU so it's more then just what AB shows the usage to be.
Yeah I just downloaded Afterburner last night (was using Asus GPU Tweak before that but it didn't have Disable ULPS option). I downloaded the Beta version so it is the latest.
I'm not home right now so I haven't tried anything quite yet, but I'm building a nice list of things to try. I'll...
Heh I had read that post before :)
I tried with both cards at stock 947/1000 (in effect downclocking the DCII) but the issue persisted.
I suppose I can try disabling frame pacing and also going back to WHQL drivers (13.12 I believe). Will update later tonight as I try it.
Hi Guys, here's a bit of background:
System:
Win 8.1 x64
16gb RAM
Asus P8p67 EVO
i7 2600k @ 4.7ghz HT ON (and OFF)
Diamond R9 290 Reference
Asus R9 290 DIrectCUII
14.1, 14.2 and now 14.3 drivers
Symptom: BF4 (either in Mantle or DX11 mode) switches usage from 0 to 100% alternating...
Hi guys.
Has anyone tested Battlefield4 with high speed ram vs 1600 to see if there is a difference in frames like Corsair claimed?
I'd be very interested in non corporate testing/results.
Star Citizen is getting Mantle? Well, my GPU decision is made.
G-Sync will be hacked to work with AMD cards the same as Lightboost was so I'm going with AMD for the best of both worlds.
I wasn't a fan of it either at start but I'm quite a fan of it now... external player customizations (changing your kits, adding emblems, etc.) and the fact you can now launch your in-game, full size, battlemap on a second screen is amazing.
Well I'm going to go against the hate grain mentality and say that I believe it'll be awesome. Valve prototypes their stuff for years before they ever release it and they wouldn't release this if their internal testing didn't prove it to be better then the 'traditional' gamepads of today.
They may drop the titan but definitely not 400-450 since it still serves very well for CUDA tasks and workstation environments... either they have an ace up their sleeve or the 780 will take a tumble.. maybe 770 too.
Site seems to be broken.
But I've seen the leaked benchmarks elsewhere. 10-20% faster then Titan for 60% of the price (if launched at rumored 599) .. and this with immature driver support.. promising.. very promisnig.
This must be microsoft sponsored. Either they payed for the information to be reported as such or they're doing something else.
And the fact the Xbox One has a 2-3x the supply at launch doesn't mean anything. They could be saving them as promo units at wallmarts and targets, never meant to...
The thing is though, that your 'max playable' setting is not rooted in any hard facts. No numbers (I'll explain).
Max playable for YOU might not be max playable for ME. After all, we have lots of people saying you don't need more then 30FPS to have smooth gameplay. How many people here...
Places like Anandtech, PCPer, TechCrunch and Hardware Canucks all realize that FPS measurements are misleading for showing the true performance of a system.. especially since FPS takes into effect runt frames which give the FPS rating a fake boost.
Frame Time is what those sites have shifted...
I can believe it. The build quality of a MBP is phenomenal. The keyboard is such a pleasure to you, you just want to keep typing. The touchpad? OMG. Light years ahead of anything the PC has. Big, glass, WAAAAAY better at multi touch input. Retina resolution.
Best PC laptop I've ever used is...
Why is this so hard to believe Steve? Are you guys really so anti apple that you'll forgive MS for everything?
Windows 8 is crap. Lot of pro users are avoiding it so its not just that 'noobs' don't understand it or fear change.
You have three options for an OS, two of which most people...
Meh.. it's just a big standard case... IMO nothing beats the silverstone raven 3. The whole 90deg rotation DRASTICALLY improves everything!
So much so that not only is it infinitely more user friendly to work on the ports on top vs on the back (usually against a wall) but the cooling system...
