My blood currently runs red, but I want it to run green (like Vulcans). My current HD6870 is showing its age, and a video card upgrade will start me on the right path towards upgrading. I have been a fan of ASUS products for years, dating back to my first build in 2000.
I only trust ASUS...
Anyone have an estimate as to what the 6900 series price points will be? I'm ready for a new card, but am debating between a 6870 now or a 6900 when it comes out. FWIW, system specs in sig.
Because my current Logitech headset is going out, and every other Logitech headset I've owned has failed. I need a product that will last me many years.
You can cause a small short in the PSU by doing that. I have never had a problem with a PSU blowing up after accidentally shorting a fan connector. You just may lose any data you're currently working with when the PSU kills all power to your computer. ;)
Some BIOS programs allow you to flash with a USB thumbdrive also. I just did on my ASUS today; EVGA may run a different BIOS program and you might not be able to do it.
Either way, I'd still rather have the polished exterior versus radiator fins all around. It may be someone else's cup of tea, but not mine. I wouldn't mind seeing the final retail product. Sadly, there are no full-view exterior pictures on TGDaily.
If they (Thermalright) dislike cooling fans so much, why are there 6 total fans in that case?
On another note, I would rather have a smooth, polished exterior versus radiator fins.
I have the same motherboard, and there is a setting in the BIOS for the motherboard to control the speed. I don't know how it works, just that it's there. It's in the same section as where you would check your CPU temp.
Remember that a reviewer's achieved temperatures are on an open testbench, not from inside of a case. Your results will almost always be higher, unless you have excellent airflow.
But 55c idle is still quite high, which could indicate bad airflow. My E6600 is currently idling around 55-60c...
About 5 years old, but classic nonetheless. A 36 inch diameter fan duct taped to a stripped-down case. Keyboard and other peripherals duct taped to the top to make carrying to LAN parties easier. This is not mine, but a friend's.
