I try to keep at least one spare drive around in case of drive failure, or actually what i try to do is keep enough free space in WHS that if one drive dies I can remove it from the array and not have any down time. So the drive is still in use, just the data is spread a little more thinly...
You're right. I'm sorry I wasn't more clear.
I have several displays around campus. I need a device that will play a pptx file looped. I also need to be able to update the pptx files remotely. That's about it.
Thanks.
Right now i have several displays that are powered by an entire machine each, an Optiplex gx270. It's overkill. I'm looking for a digital signage / network media player.
I've sampled a Viewsonic NMP-200 and it was middle of the road for what I need:
16:9 aspect ratio
.pptx format support...
I don't have a machine to test the new version of WHS. I'm wanting to run Active Directory at home and use Group Policy for all my machines and our accounts along with all the fancy stuff that WHS does.
I know in WHSv1 it was difficult to get it to do anything other than what was intended...
Wireless Bridge and Wireless Distribution Service are two techs you can look into. Several 3rd party firmwares offer them, so if you have the budget go for a prebuilt device like MrkXCel suggests; otherwise look at Tomato & DD-WRT.
Also you can check with an alarm installation company, they run low voltage wire as well.
I'd also suggest running cat6 wire and running at least one spare to each drop, it's easier to run extra cable the first time than to add it later.
If you feel comfortable and are good with your hands...
An A+ can get you a Computer Technician job. You'll need to demonstrate you have a good head on your shoulder and common sense and troublehshooting skills but it looks like you have some of that.
I work with people that have only the A+ and they're doing just fine. So while it may not make...
Both v1, v3 support DD-WRT. I run it on my v1 with little trouble. DD-WRT has many options like AP and WDS.
It's not he greatest router in the world, but for $30 you can't go wrong.
You can set WHS to auto login as your Bittorent user acct when starting up. That'll save you from having to remote into it, especially if it restarts from an update and doesn't tell you.
This is what fixed it. I uninstalled PhysX, then reinstalled by launching ME from Steam. Then I disabled PhysX and restarted the game and it works just fine.
Thanks for everyone weighing in.
Purchased on Steam on Monday
I have a q6600 and 8GB memory with a radeon 4850
At certain points on a map the frame rate drops extremely low. I don't know how to measure them exactly but it's completely unplayable. Certainly less than 10 fps.
This happens in more than one place during...
The weather and terrain in l4d2 is great. The rain reducing visiblity and bringing a horde is challenging, the wading slowly through water also adds a different dynamic.
A few more DLC campaigns in the coming weeks and months will be welcome but it's a very strong game as it stands now.
I've sent in 3 or 4 drives to WD and Seagate and I always receive a refurb replacement. If you opt for the upgrade path then you'll get a new drive, otherwise it's a refurb.
This is probably not a problem that affects everyone as I couldn't find anyone else complaining about.
When I load up L4D it plays music when sitting at the launch screen after the intro video. I don't need this music. In fact it gets annoying and I'd like to turn it off. Is there a good...
Several of our computers are experiencing this. When working in a Google Doc in IE 8 the left click will not work within the doc. If the user Right clicks once then Left click will work again. If they right click again it will disable the left click again. Have not experienced this in Firefox...
Previously, with XP and Vista, Dell OEM disks could be used to install on any machine, HP, custom or whatever. But if they were installed on Dells they would not need to be activated. If installed on other machines it would ask for a key and activation.
My biggest complaint with Mesh is it does not tell you what has been synced, is syncing or what's waiting to be synced.
I use it to sync my WHS in Hawaii with my brother's WHS in Seattle. It works well for that.
I am glad they give the option to update automatically. For a while they were...
You might find that some gamers purchase their upgrades piece meal and are probably using a few legacy parts because they might not realize the performance impact that has. My example is reusing an old hard drive even after purchasing new motherboard, memory, cpu and video card. The 4 year...
3 of our laptops got stolen this summer and we need to replace them.
My Dell DOE contact has told me their lifecycle has ended some time ago.
Dell Business, Dell Outlet, DellAuction.com and dfsdirectsales.com hav none in inventory.
Are there any other places besides eBay I can find...
It's a matter of opinion as to what's playable. I played CS with 200+ ping many years ago and if you learn how it affects your game you can still play well. It's certainly not ideal. 150 is definitely on the high side of desirable latency but it's not unplayable or unenjoyable. Ideally you'll...
I've been using a Rosewill and I've already RMAd is once and it just broke again. <1 year from original purchase. It was $15, I'm not surprised.
As far as I can tell the market seems to push for the cheapest in both quality and price.
Now I'm looking for recommendations for a new one. I'm...

Fist computer was Darwin because I kept upgrading parts so it constantly evolved
I used to use naming schemes like the deadly sins, planets or fruits but I have so many computers coming in and out of my posession that I just don't care as much anymore.

You can only upgrade from 64 bit to 64 bit.
If you have the 64 bit upgrade disc, I'm pretty sure you can boot from it and install 64bit Vista without entering the key. It might complain and ask you to verify your choice. After it does the install you have 30 days to activate. Then you boot...
