ASUS Maximus IX Formula LGA 1151 Motherboard Review @ [H]

I understand what you're saying but that's not my experience with the Gigabyte Z270 Gaming K7 (F4 BIOS). My Vcore is set at 1.16 manually. I only notice Vcore drop if I use the Normal+DVID mode or Auto modes. Anyhow, thank you for clarifying what you observed on the ASUS board. I am certainly...

ASUS Maximus IX Formula LGA 1151 Motherboard Review @ [H]

That's really odd because my Gigabyte Z270X-Gaming K7 definitely has a manual mode and setting that results in fixed voltages even if EIST/C-States are turned on. I lack adaptive mode though on my board. Anyhow, I wonder if the BIOS teams are just swamped trying to cope with Z270 and Ryzen...

EVGA Z270 Classified or MSI Z270 Titanium

Do both EVGA and MSI boards have Adaptive VCore settings? If you're OCing I think that is critical. I'm pretty pissed my Gigabyte board lacks Adaptive Voltage settings.

ASUS Maximus IX Formula LGA 1151 Motherboard Review @ [H]

Hello, This part really caught my eye regarding Vcore settings: If that's the case, then it sounds like the CPU is allowed to ramp down vcore and clock speeds assuming you have EIST/C-states activated? Then how is that any different than an adaptive voltage or offset mode? I was always under...

Question--why do you guys also do a Noctua application? Is that just to show how its done with liquid metal and a traditional TIM? Are there disadvantages to using a typical paste? I've read on some places where people say traditional pastes will flow out over time or whatever...

HTPC / NAS Combo? Repurposing my existing NAS?

I currently have a NAS running napp-it via ESXi. I set it up back in 2011 or so and I've let it run on its own. It also has a Windows 7 VM that's in charge of doing media downloads. However more recently I've been wondering if I can have an HTPC as well. Part of my desire is to have a Windows...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I see what you mean, but what I'm saying is I setup a "test" folder with Guest login, meaning I should NOT have to login. However in the ACL Extension, I made sure "Everyone@" is set to read only, and I added root to have full permissions. Therefore, when I try to access this "test" folder...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

http://i.imgur.com/ngj69bF.png That's how I have my permissions setup. When I visit my server through Windows, it lets me browse that folder with no login, but I can't delete it. However if I login with root, I can then get write access? I thought that's what I was describing or did I do...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

But is it possible to set: - No login needed to read/execute - Login required to write? I think I got it setup where I turned ON guest access but set trivial acl everyone@ to "read." therefore, unless I login as root for example, i can't copy files over. Would that be correct?

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

@Gea: Question regarding permissions because I haven't set something up properly even after 2 years (shame on me). First off, let's just reset everything. I should probably start with a reset ACL because everything is screwed up after 2 years of stupidity. Do I reset to "Modify?" What should...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

Is it not recommended to use OI anymore? I have an OI based napp-it server that I've been running for over a year now. OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

whats the internal base reservation? I thought there was that option to run only to 90% full. I don't want to get too close to being full. But even with that I don't see why it goes from 7.88T => 7.2T => 6.4T for my folder. Sorry for being newb :(

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

I realize there's some unit conversion differences, but my single 2TB hard drive on my Windows desktop shows up as 1.96TB free. 1.96 * 4 drives = 7.84 TiB? I thought Windows uses TiB? Well either way.... If you refer to my screenshot it shows the pool has 4.96 avail, 2.88 used, that totals to...

OpenSolaris derived ZFS NAS/ SAN (OmniOS, OpenIndiana, Solaris and napp-it)

@Gea or someone who can explain this Ok so for the pool, it shows a total of 7.84 TB (6x2TB in raidz2). I understand that it's 4 drives and 2TB drives aren't really 2 TiB. How come for my ZFS Folder media though, it shows a total of 6.4 TB (4.25 avail + 2.15 used)? That's a huge difference...

About to do "zpool create raidz" on 6x WD20EARX drives. Any last words from anyone?

Hey. I went with raidz2 on a 6 disk setup. I abandoned it and went to 10 disks instead. However, I decided to wait a bit because I wanted to migrate to better RAID cards and as a result HD prices shot through the roof. Consider moving to 10 or risk a lot of data. 1/3 for redundancy is more...

can someone explain something about the whole 4K thing to me? Samsung F4s are 4k drives with 512byte emulation, But what about other drives? Do all drives have the emulation, or are some just straight up 4k native? And what if I mix 4k and 512byte drives in ZFS (using napp-it)??? Unadvised?

HDD NAS Dilemma - Mix drives?

    HDD prices rising

so it seems that there are cheap 2TB Seagate and other drives that surface once in a while. I really would like my NAS up and running soon, but I only have 5/10 drives. Should I consider mixing drives to do a 10 drive setup, or should I run a RAIDz1 with 5 drives and wait for drives to come...
