Main rig has a Corsair HX850 that's about eight years old - it replaced a Cooler Master 700W after it let the magic smoke out. Before that I was using a custom PC Power & Cooling 510W from 2002 that was one of two running in parallel in a phase change system.
I still have it, actually. Works...
I'm waiting for independent benchmarks before deciding to pull the trigger or not, but I think it's going to be a pretty solid set of processors. I was really hoping to jump to a 16 core part, and may still hold off for that. What I expect is that we'll see relative parity with a stock i9-9900K...
Yeah, this CPU has done me well! 4.3 isn't bad on Haswell-E, though - still a solid CPU. Does it just get too hot at 4.4/4.5, or is it a clock/voltage wall?
Yeah, the 5GHz fawning is pretty much just because it's a nice even step in speed. Within the CPU realm it's been sort of the unattainable "next step" for nearly a decade. The P4's Netburst architecture ramped us up in raw clock frequency so rapidly that in 2001 there was serious talk about...
Looks pretty good! Not many 27" panels with both IPS and 144Hz, and wide range Freesync support is nice too.
A few reviews online seem to be positive, such as this one from HotHardware.
No. Volkswagen has a 19.9% stake, with GM at 3% and Fuji Heavy (Subaru) at 1%.
Edit: Suzuki bought back their shares from VW after a lawsuit a few years ago, I forgot about that.
It's honestly kind of annoying how well it works. I snagged it for a hundred bucks - some kid had it listed on local classifieds and was using an xbox 360 on it via an HDMI to DVI adapter. Like you say, this model has only a single DVI-D connector and no built in scaler, so they were gaming at...
Yep, it's amazing how long displays last. I used a ~$400 20" Dell LCD for about 10 years before it finally gave up the ghost. I added a ~$500 24" HP about halfway through that time and ran with a dual monitor setup. When the 20" Dell died, what did I do? I replaced it with a used 30" Dell...
Argh, not [H] too... This is a Mos Eisley test level released in 2016 and unrelated to Dark Forces. It keeps popping up whenever some Youtuber finds it. No DF remake related info has been released, and is pure speculation.
You might have better luck toying with some older titles or games like Subnautica, which are less demanding on the GTX 1080. Racing games are another great application of high refresh rate monitors. Games like DIRT and Forza Racing/Horizon. Scrumptuously smooth.
I'm still waiting to pull the...
Only one SSD failure since 2009 in my personal systems, on an OCZ Core 60GB (truly awful). Last two (which are probably still in my sig) were Corsair 240GB Force GTs that I sold on at about 45,000 power on hours.
I think outside of certain heavy use scenarios or firmware faults most home users...
Benchmarks put it essentially on par with the 1070ti/Vega 56 and within sight of the 1080/Vega 64 at 1080p and 1440p. For $349 it's actually a solid alternative in that you get access to RTX/DLSS and the tensor cores, a lower 120W TDP and such. Downsides are the limited 6GB frame buffer and...
I am surprisingly OK with this decision. Their hand was forced in many ways, but that they relented at all is indicative of the need to move on collectively with display tech. Took them long enough.
The Russian site GameGPU has an indexed benchmark for Battlefield V, comparing both CPUs and GPUs amongst other things. It's a bit dense, but scroll down near the bottom and you'll see there's actually a core test result feature as well. Selecting the i7-7700K and the i7-9700K and you'll also...
My favorite Maximum PC bit was the Bitchin' Fast! 3D 2000.
[edit to add:] Someone even posted this fabulous tribute to Youtube showing it in action. 101% authentic, you can tell because of the way that it is.
Push to Talk was intentionally left out, under the guise of them wanting to encourage an "open" sense of communication among players who happened upon each other. Really.
Yeah, I certainly can't complain. Bought it at launch, paired it with an Asus P8P67 Deluxe, the bigass Noctua and some nice G.Skill RAM and went to town. Most I got out of that setup was about 4.8GHz 24/7 stable. It wasn't until I switched to the Asrock Z77 Formula OC board that I was able to...
