DDR3 not that bad as it used to be , high performance plat edition OCZ DDR3 - 1333 - 2 Gbs for 250$ compared to 70$ DDR2 - 800 , however you can go Intel DX38BT mobo for 230$ vs Asus X38 280$ this somehow makes the ram 250$ ddr3 vs 120$ ddr2... double price!

Aren't these 4 MBs extra cache on Q9450 better than having an avg. overclock difference of 350 mhz for gaming? and SSE4 for video encoding? Not sure what are you using the quad for, but Q9450 looks better in both ways to me :p
