no, the point was how to get music off an iPod since the main music library was lost when a drive failed. I think it turns out to be easy to get the music back from an iPod, but getting the artwork back is a different matter.

thanks for the great suggestions...in the end I just copy and pasted everything on the ipod to my hard drive (F00, F01 etc) as a kind of ipod backup, and am listening to music on the ipod through itunes, managing music manually.

Thanks for the link. I decided to buy another external HDD (not Seagate!) and used the technique I posted. It preserves the music and id3 tags but not the album art when importing into iTunes. That probably could be hacked further but I'm calling it a day. For now.

Well my old computer just died due to marital discord and resultant violent blows from spouse. (story at another time). Time for a new build. I play games and want to easily handle Crysis, COD4, Guitar Hero (ha), use Photoshop and Reason. Sometimes mess with 3D modelling. Not a video...

Bought a Westy 32" LCD TV to use with my pc about 5 years ago for $1500. Just died, but probably because I left it on 24/7 (suspend mode apparently fails). Now sells for $329. Also spent $278 on my x-fi Fatal1ty sound card 4 years ago. Same model now sells for $200. Mine still works...

I had a similar problem. Systems can be finicky about mixing ram of different sizes and manufacturers and speeds. Even which slots u use matters.

maybe you hard drive is failing, as said before. do you have the data on a separate partition from your os? I would try running Spin Rite on that disc to try and fix it. If that doesn't work, I would not rerip your collection to the same disc...maybe a good idea to get a brand new hard drive...

My power supply is labelled Thermaltake (which is on the list of crappy ones). I think the packaging was comp usa, but I could be remembering wrong after 5 years. I put a Seasonic psu in my Dad's box around the same time and its giving him no problems.

Again, thanks for the input. I'm thinking of going with Seasonic (quiet and efficient, I believe). I play keyboard music on my pc with Reason, and also listen to iTunes, so this noise is killing me.:confused:

My power supply is about 5 years old and is a crappy 500 W comp usa brand. Recently it began making intermittent high pitched buzzing noises. I tried blowing out the dust from the unit. That had the result of it now making continuous high pitched buzzing noises. Before I replace it I wonder...
